• Why are immigration officials targeting a grandmother for deportation?
Why are immigration officials in the Obama administration targeting a grandmother for deportation? Juana is a mother of four wonderful children and a grandmother of two beautiful girls. Her husband Carlos, a US citizen, calls her the "glue of their family," and his soulmate. Juana has called the US her home for nearly two decades, yet immigration officials are threatening to tear this family apart by deporting her! If the administration goes through with Juana's deportation, it would be devastating for both her family and community. Not only is Juana the primary caretaker of her children -- two of them U.S. citizens -- but since 1994 she's steadily worked to help her community by paying her taxes, working as an usher at her church, and even providing financial contributions to local missionaries. If her contributions to the fabric and economy of her community are not enough, Carlos and Juana's daughters have started having children of their own, and they look to Juana daily for her motherly advice. Deporting Juana would go against the founding morals of our nation and break this family apart! Right now, Juana would likely qualify for the pathway to citizenship in the Senate immigration bill, but it's been stalled in the House by Republican leadership. The Obama administration shouldn't punish Juana and her family for Congress' inaction. In fact, because they support the pending legislation, the Obama administration shouldn't be deporting immigrants like her at all! We can help Juana and her family by asking ICE to exercise "prosecutorial discretion" and let her return back to her home and community. Please join us in demanding that the immigration official overseeing Juana's case stop her deportation. Juana's children shouldn't be separated from their mother -- we need to help keep this family together. They're depending on us!

  • No more excuses. Republicans need to stop blocking immigration reform!
Republicans are now saying that they don't have enough time to pass immigration reform this year. They say we should wait until next year. But, passing immigration reform isn’t a matter of the calendar, it’s a matter of political will. Right now, today, the votes exist to pass immigration reform with a path to citizenship. The House has both November and December to find time to schedule it—because our families’ lives are on the line. Earlier this year House GOP leaders found time to give Rep. Steve King (R-IA) a vote on his amendment to deport DREAMers. They could certainly find time to bring a vote on citizenship forward this year. If House Republicans aren’t swayed by the human toll and moral crisis caused by our broken immigration system, we’ll speak to them in a language they do understand—the language of politics and the future of their political careers. Every day Republicans delay on immigration reform, another 1,120 people are deported. Please join us in telling Republicans to stop blocking immigration reform!

  • Rep. Mark Pocan: Support A Discharge Petition to Pass HR 15 for Comprehensive Immigration Reform...
Support for an HR 15 Discharge Petition is growing in the media, with credible, major organizations, and among members of Congress. Our favorite Democrats need to hear loud and clear that we expect them to do everything possible to ensure that HR 15 for fair, just, Comprehensive Immigration Reform passes in the US House this year. Reform is good for the economy, will help nearly 11 million to obtain a clear pathway to citizenship, and will keep families together.

  • Tell Congress: It's time to pass comprehensive immigration reform
One of the first soldiers I lost in Iraq wasn't an American citizen. His story began like many others who come to this country seeking a better life while giving back to their communities. Some do it through public service jobs and volunteerism, others in our churches and community centers. He chose to do it through military service, but he lacked citizenship when he made his Final Journey home -- despite the fact his sacrifice for our nation was just as enduring as those born here. Comprehensive immigration reform recently passed the U.S. Senate but remains stuck, waiting for the House of Representatives to take action. Add your name to mine and urge the House to take immediate action.

  • Rep. Hastings: Please Cosponsor the New House Immigration Bill
House Democrats have broken Speaker John Boehner's deadlock and introduced an immigration bill with a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million without papers. So far, over 180 House Democrats have signed on as cosponsors! But in order to get this bill past the finish line, we're going to need Republican support. The good news is that it's there. Your district's representative in the House, Congressman Doc Hastings, is part of a group of Republicans who are open to immigration reform. His support for this new bill could be the tipping point for our movement. If he becomes a part of the growing group of Republicans who have already cosponsored this bill, we know more of his colleagues in his party will build up the courage to follow. However, while Rep. Hastings has said he's open to voting on immigration reform, he remains unclear about supporting a path to citizenship for the 11 million aspiring Americans. This simply isn't good enough. Right now, we have a good bill waiting in the House -- we just need to get Rep. Hastings to come to our side. He needs to join the more than 180 House members and cosponsor this new immigration bill! We need you and other advocates in your district to pressure Rep. Hastings into supporting this bill. If we get Rep. Hastings on board, your district could make all the difference for the millions without papers across the nation. The momentum is on our side because enough votes exist in the House to pass reform today. But instead Speaker Boehner hides behind excuses, delays, and flat-out refuses to give us a vote. We've come too far to stop now. Tell Rep. Hastings to stand up for his district by cosponsoring this new immigration bill in the House and passing the path to citizenship for the 11 million!

  • Rep. McKeon: Please Cosponsor the New House Immigration Bill

So far, over 180 House Democrats have signed on as cosponsors! But in order to get this bill past the finish line, we're going to need Republican support. The good news is that it's there. Your district's representative in the House, Congressman Buck McKeon, is part of a group of Republicans who are open to immigration reform. His support for this new bill could be the tipping point for our movement. If he becomes a part of the growing group of Republicans who have already cosponsored this bill, we know more of his colleagues in his party will build up the courage to follow. While Rep. McKeon has indicated he wants to "make [undocumented immigrants] legal, give them some kind of status to bring them into the system," he has not given any indication whether he wants to allow them to become citizens, or keep them in second-class status. But that's simply not good enough. We already have a good bill waiting in the House, and the time for vagueness is over. Rep. McKeon needs to instead stand for all aspiring Americans by joining the more than 180 House members and cosponsoring this new immigration bill! We need you and other advocates in your district to pressure Rep. McKeon into supporting this bill. If we get Rep. • Immigration Reform Now!!
In our mid-western town we have a large number of Hispanics. Our local United Methodist Church has sponsored a Hispanic Church for many years. About 5 years ago we brought a Hispanic minister and his whole congregation under our auspices and they all joined the United Methodist Church. The Hispanic minister has been in the US for over 10 years and has been a very positive influence in the community. Recently the United Methodist Conference of our state discovered he does not have a green card even though he has been trying to get one for 10 years. Now the Church feels they can no longer support him nor let his family live in the parsonage. For persons like this we need IMMIGRATION REFORM NOW!!!

  • President Obama: End Border Patrol's Pro-Murder Policy
President Obama needs to rein in the murderous tendencies of his Border Patrol. Last year, Border Patrol killed a 16 year old Mexican boy named José Antonio Elena Rodríguez who was accused of throwing rocks over the fence at the US-Mexico border. Local police said there was little chance the rocks ever would’ve hit someone on the other side, but that didn’t stop Border Patrol from shooting him 11 times -- at least 10 of those times in the back. Since then, a government-commissioned independent review board recommended that Border Patrol end the practice of responding to rock throwing with gunfire. Border Patrol refused. Since 2010, Border Patrol killed Jose Antonio and seven other people in rock throwing incidents. They’ve killed 18 people total in alleged excessive force incidents in the same timeframe. Border Patrol has a serious problem, and it’s time for President Obama to take control of the out of control agency. Responding to rocks with gunfire is not self-defense -- in the face of a rock attack Border Patrol agents have numerous options including tactical engagement so that agents can be safe when approaching a scenario or control the area from further back. When the Administration agreed to review its use of force policies earlier this year, it seemed like real change was imminent. Now it just looks like another cheap public relations move. The Obama Administration’s decision threatens to destroy the thin trust developed between border communities and the Department of Homeland Security. We demand real change at the border -- the Obama administration must respect human life. Please sign our petition calling on President Obama to stop Border Patrol from using deadly force against rock throwers at the border.
