President-Elect Trump: Denounce Hate CrimesDonald Trump's silence in the face of the current rise in hate crime, fueled in part by his rhetoric and behavior, belies his promise to be "president for all Americans." We therefore demand he break the silence and publicly denounce and pledge specific action against hate crime. United States hate crime legislation needs strengthening. Some states have no hate crime laws, and it was only in 1993 that hate crime laws were ensured constitutionality. Ours are decades behind other Western Democracies. Overall, there remains imbalance between First Amendment protections, and the protection of hate crime victims. The United States is in dire need of effective, protective hate crime laws. The current crisis lends even greater urgency. The president-elect owes it to all Americans - regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious belief, disability, or political persuasion - to publicly denounce hate crime and pledge concrete action against it.857 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Matthew Ippolito

Sentencing EnhancementThe courts are sentencing defendants to gang/gun enhancements per victim involved and not per incident. Stacking these enhancements makes the sentencing unrealistic. To sentence 100+ years in prison serves no real purpose since the defendant has nothing to lose while incarcerated, good behavior or bad behavior. With 100+ years there's no possibility of rehabilitation because the defendant knows there is no release from the prison system with that type of sentence.20 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Cheryl L Harbottle

Dan May: Press Charges Against Jack Rogers for the Murder of Jesse GarciaJesse Garcia, 23, was murdered in a Taco Bell parking lot in Colorado Springs on July 17th, 2016. His murderer, Jack Rogers, an 80-year-old white male at the time of the incident, has a documented history of racial harassment in his neighborhood, a family connection to an officer in the CSPD, and a case that doesn't add up. The 4th District Attorney Dan May made a quick decision not to press charges against Jack Rogers based on a surveillance video that has not yet been released. We demand that charges be brought against Jack Rogers, allowing a full investigation into the nature of the shooting. As District Attorney, Dan May's job is to bring justice to those whose voices have been silenced, and he failed to do so. Why Press Charges? • Police report lists the two as strangers, when in reality, Jack lived across the street from Jesse's grandmother. • Jack kept meticulous records of who entered and exited the neighborhood, frequently using racial slurs to describe Jesse's family members. • While the case is described as a road-rage incident, there seems to be no evidence of this other than Jack's testimony. • The written report of the video and of witnesses describe Jesse as not gesturing, not raising his voice, not yelling moments before he was shot by Jack. • Jack claims that Jesse grabbed the gun and it accidentally went off, yet no prints of any kind were found on the gun. Jack is a former officer himself and would know about preserving fingerprints. • Jack has a family relationship with a Colorado Springs officer.549 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Olivia Romero

Overturn the EXTREME 30 SENTENCE2- 30 year sentencing for a crime Donald Williams V24006was not responsible for. He was involved in a high speed chase (not in a commission of a felony) and he did not even know he was being chased and he has been accountable for the death of an office who was clearly violating the law by high speed chasing him on a motor vehicle.25 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Tasha McCray

Nebraska: Don't Send Cops to #NoDAPL Protest at Standing RockOn October 28, Senator Bernie Sanders sent a letter to President Obama requesting that he intervene to protect Native Americans peacefully protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline. [1] At least 140 people were arrested at the construction site in Cannon Ball, N.D., last Wednesday after police moved in with tanks and riot gear, using sound cannons, pepper spray and rubber bullets. Hundreds of Native American protectors have gathered at the site since April to protest the pipeline’s construction on land they claim is tribal under the 1851 Treaty of Fort Laramie. States which have recently deployed personnel against the Standing Rock protests include Wisconsin, Indiana, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wyoming, and Nebraska, according to an October 23 press release from the Morton County Sheriff's Department. [2] Some Minnesota elected officials called on Minnesota authorities not to send police officers to the Dakota Access Pipeline protest at Standing Rock after it was revealed that the Hennepin County Sheriff had done so. [3] Urge Governor Ricketts and Nebraska legislators to discourage Nebraska law enforcement agencies from sending police officers to the #NoDAPL protest at Standing Rock by signing our petition. DA Devon Anderson is sending Black folks to jail for being poorA corrupt bail and witness bond system has turned jail into prison for people who are too poor to pay their way out--and it’s claimed the lives of 55 people over the past 6 years. These atrocities have only gotten worse under the leadership of Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson. One thing is clear: DA Anderson has no place in office.148 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Rashad Robinson

TELL NORTH DAKOTA STATE'S ATTORNEY: DROP ALL CHARGES AGAINST JOURNALIST AMY GOODMAN!This petition is necessary to raise our collective voices against the attempt by government officials in North Dakota to intimidate and silence an award-winning journalist, Amy Goodman of Democracy Now!, who was just doing her job on September 3, 2016, by covering protests of construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline by Native Americans and others opposed to the project. Democracy Now!’s report went viral online, was viewed more than 14 million times on Facebook, and was rebroadcast on many outlets, including CBS, NBC, NPR, CNN, MSNBC and the Huffington Post. This bold attempt to undermine the First Amendment should be abhorrent to all freedom-loving people in the USA and around the world--regardless of whether you are a progressive, conservative or independent. By aggressively fighting these baseless charges, Amy Goodman is standing up for my First Amendment rights, and for the rights of everyone in America. We must support her and stop this attempt at government suppression of a free press! A critical hearing in the case will be help very soon. Please sign my petition now! Thank you all!!466 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Stephen C. Bass
