Colin Grady has been incarcerated since February 2009 and is not set for release until May 2015. While incarcerated he has made great use of this time. He has graduated from college with a 2 year degree and is currently continuing with his education today, he has held several jobs, been an outstanding inmate, immersed himself in all the available self help programs that are offered, and graduated from a parenting course, (he did this course to make sure that he had all the appropriate skills to be the best Uncle he could to his Nephews and future children) We as his family, friends and community are ready to have him home. We feel that the time he has served is adequate punishment for the laws broken. The 26 year old man he is today is drastically different than the 19 year old boy he was in 2007. We are in full support of his early release.

In 2008, I served on a jury that convicted a man of second degree murder. Two weeks ago, I received a long letter from the convicted felon. He obtained my name and subsequently, "through a personal investigator friend", my home address. What was meant to be an important commitment to civic duty, has turned into a deeply stressful situation and fear for my family's safety. This convicted murderer should have never been able to obtain my name.

On Thursday, September 26, immigrant detainees being held at South Bay Jail in Boston, Massachusetts announced a public campaign to fight inhumane treatment inside the jail. Detainees cited food safety issues and denial of access to standard services as just some of the conditions which they are forced to endure. After attempts to raise their concerns to prison officials proved unsuccessful, on Thursday, October 3, over 200 detainees at South Bay initiated a hunger strike. I am affected by the situation of sending young men in California out of state to serve their time. I have a son who is incarcerated in Prison. He would be sent to another state where I would not be able to visit him.

I am a clinical psychologist and have had the experience of working with a potentially dangerous delusional patient with access to a gun. Because this patient's delusions did not focus on one particular, identifiable person, I was unable to take any action to protect others or myself. The recent episodes in Washington, D.C., as well as other recent acts of violence by the mentally ill, such as the the Newtown, CT massacre, make this an urgent issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
