• There are no "Alternative Facts"
During the campaign President Trump brilliantly used the press and social media to create an alternative reality in which facts are fungible. Whether or not we supported his candidacy we must not allow this to continue as his administration governs. Suggesting that there are "alternative facts" is nothing more than code for lies. The press must hold President Trump and his advisors and staff to the highest ethical and moral standards and must relentlessly push back against deceit and untruths. Our representatives must do the same and have the courage to speak truth to power.

  • Keep the Red and Blue Gown Tradition at Morgantown High School
The 2017 senior class was informed yesterday that the long standing tradition of the girls and boys wearing different colored gowns had changed to everyone wearing blue. As far back as people can remember the gowns have been two different colors. In earlier years the girls wore white and the boys wore blue, starting in the early 80's the girls wore red and boys wore blue. Back in those days the red gowns made up an "M" with a blue background. As a graduate of 1984, I remember this with pride. Traditions are important in our society. These days it's hard to provide our kids with examples of long standing tradition. If you were a graduate from MHS and would like to keep his tradition, please sign this petition and forward it on to other MHS graduates. Hopefully together, we can change the administrations's mind on making this change. After all our Alma Mater says "We sing our song of praise to the beloved "Red and Blue."

  • Vatterott College: Reinstate Brian Carroll
On the night of January 6, when temperatures were below zero, Brian Carroll saved a homeless Vatterott student's life by providing him shelter in the campus library. The student had run out of his medication, and Carroll knew that if he did nothing, the student would likely die of exposure if he didn't get indoors during an ice storm that was hitting the Kansas City area. Vatterott's corpporate owners, TA Associates, fired Carroll as a direct result of his action that likely prevented this student from dying of hypothermia. Even though the student didn't damage the library or its property, and only stayed overnight, TA Associates refused to simply issue a disciplinary mark against Carroll and instead fired him outright. The world needs more compassionate people like Brian Carroll in positions of leadership, not less. This petition demands TA Associates not only give Carroll his job back, but raise his salary for his compassionate action that likely saved a student's life.

  • Girl Scouts: Stand with your values! Boycott Trump's inauguration
I was a Girl Scout growing up, and now I lead a Junior troop. I've been these girls' leader since they were 5-year-old Daisies, and it has been a rich, rewarding, and loving experience for me. I’m heartbroken to learn that GSUSA will be participating in the presidential inauguration this year. Donald Trump has repeatedly made statements that are not only antithetical to everything GSUSA purports to value, but which are directly harmful to women and girls. Tradition is not a justification for normalizing Donald Trump and his blatant misogyny. Just this week, nearly 60 members of Congress have announced they will not attend the inauguration. We aren't required to do things just because we've done them in the past. What we ARE required to do, as Girl Scouts, is live by the Girl Scout Law. You are failing to live by your law, GSUSA. Donald Trump has proven at every opportunity that he lacks even the most basic respect for women and girls. Traditions that hurt our girls must be broken. We look to you to model courage, confidence, and character and pull out of the inaugural parade.

  • Sen. Heitkamp: Join the movement and boycott Trump's inauguration
Congressman John Lewis sparked a growing movement this weekend to boycott Donald Trump's inauguration. He said he would not attend because Russia's tampering with the presidential election means that he cannot view Trump as a "legitimate president." Since then, nearly 60 House Democrats have announced that they will not attend Trump's inauguration, either—and Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer told the media that the decision to attend the inauguration is up to each senator. But as far as we know, Senator Heidi Heitkamp still intends to attend the inauguration—which is why she needs to hear from you right now. Hundreds of thousands of people across the country, including MoveOn members like you and supporters of other progressive organizations like CREDO and Democracy for America, have spoken out to demand members of Congress resist Trump, giving 59 House Democrats the public support and political will needed to stand up to Trump and refuse to attend his inauguration. Now, senators who believe in our shared progressive values and democratic principals of our country must do the same. Donald Trump is a threat to our nation; he is an unstable autocrat and must be resisted at every turn. By boycotting the inauguration, elected representatives are refusing to treat Trump's presidency as business as usual.

  • Hold the press accountable for their actions
There is much concern that fake news is effecting election campaigns of all parties. I want our elected officials, both state and federal to make an effort to find a legislative solution that provides an incentive to not publish fake news while at the same time not infringing on the first amendment guarantee of a free press.

  • Boycott the inauguration!
On Friday, civil rights hero and longtime congressman John Lewis, who organized the March on Washington as a student and whose skull was broken by police as he crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge, called Trump's election illegitimate and said he would not attend the inauguration. Predictably, Donald Trump attacked Rep. Lewis. And since then, in the past 24 hours, the number of Congress members who have said they'd join Representative Lewis and skip the inauguration has grown to nearly twenty. Thank you Representatives Blumenauer and Schrader for joining them! "It will be the first one that I miss since I've been in Congress," Lewis said. "You cannot be at home with something that you feel that is wrong, is not right." Rep. Lewis has said that he cannot see Trump as a "legitimate president" because of the now widely understood effort of Russia to influence November's election on behalf of Trump. Every member of Congress has a choice: stand with Rep. Lewis or stand with Trump. Sign the petition—tell your members of Congress to skip the inauguration. Rep. Lewis has shown yet again that when a leader takes a courageous action, others follow. If more members of Congress join Rep. Lewis and skip the inauguration, we can strengthen the power of the opposition. Thank you Representatives Blumenauer and Schrader for standing strong and boycotting Trump's inauguration. Let's join them and show the power of the opposition movement. Democratic lawmakers must boycott Trump's inauguration lest they normalize and legitimize an unhinged demagogue who's an abject threat to our nation.

  • Stop Intimidation of Ethics Director Holding Trump Accountable
The Office of Government Ethics is a nonpartisan ethics office that has served presidents for the last 4 decades to help ensure a high level of integrity in the president, cabinet members and all appointees. It should not be punished for doing its job for the American people.
