Bereavement Leave PetitionI am the mother of a deceased child and know how hard it is to adjust following the death of a child. My employer allowed 3 days bereavement leave. That was hardly enough time to plan Todd's funeral. The real challenge was adjusting to a new normal following a traumatic loss. If an employee is allowed up to 12 weeks for the birth of a child, why is an employee not allowed the same for the death of a child? Having experienced both, I assure you the latter was a much tougher adjustment for me. A parent should not need a medical diagnosis of depression to utilize the FMLA leave! The obituary should be more than enough! Please help me to help the parents that don't ever want to think they will need this...until they do.2,779 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Sherri Sengsouvanna

To Serve and Protect Our CommunitiesMy husband and I were victimized last year at our home. My neighbors called the police 4 different times and they never came. Even after my neighbors mentioned hearing gun shots, glass breaking and home alarm going off the police still didn't come. After my husband and I were robbed and almost gunned down in our driveway myself and a different neighbor called the police. The police came after the fact. Now my husband is is paralyzed from the waist down. If the police would have responsed to the first call the crime would have been prevented and my husband wouldn't be paralyzed. And the criminals would have been caught. The evidence was not properly collected due to the lack of not caring or doing their job to protect and serve.28 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mrs. Williams

Override Christie's veto of the Sandy Bill of Rights!New Jersey’s Sandy recovery effort is a disaster in itself. The system is so broken that legislators unanimously passed a Sandy Bill of Rights for home and business owners in desperate need of relief. And then, incredibly, Governor Christie vetoed it. Even worse, the Republican legislators who voted for the bill are running scared from the Governor and now have refused to override his veto. The Sandy Bill of Rights would force the state to be upfront about application requirements for Sandy aid, allow applicants to track their aid applications online, and give applicants a clear reason for why their aid requests were denied or put on hold. It will also help ensure that aid is distributed on the basis of need and not politics. This is a winnable fight, but only if we convince legislators that they should be more frightened of a backlash from voters than a backlash from Governor Christie.5,124 of 6,000 SignaturesCreated by Analilia Mejia

Childcare: Changing Tables in RestaurantsI am starting this petition because I experienced having to change my baby's diaper on a bathroom floor in a restaurant which was absolutely disgusting. This petition is to require all restaurants to have changing tables in both women and men's bathrooms. This will help promote cleanliness and a proper area for a parent to change a child.37 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Deana A. Werkowitch

Tell the Postal Service: Create a Maya Angelou postage stampLast week, we lost a phenomenal woman. Maya Angelou lived an inspiring life--one that will continue to influence generations to come. And there's a wonderful way for us as a country to honor her: by commemorating her life with a United States Postal Service stamp. Stamps have featured people for their notable accomplishments in the arts. They have included American heroes, but one is missing. Maya Angelou was influential in so many ways: she was Hollywood's first black female director, a best-selling author of 36 books and presidential inauguration poet. That's why there's movement to create a stamp in her honor. Will you add your name?237 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Nita and Shaunna, UltraViolet

Mayor Rahm Emanuel:Recognize the accomplishments of Mayor Jane ByrneJane Byrne is 81 years old and in frail health. Her accomplishments during her tenure (1979-1983) as Chicago's first elected woman are still benefitting citizens of this city. Her history and her contributions should be acknowledged in an equally enduring way while she is able to appreciate that she will be remembered when she is no longer with us.33 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Elizabeth Burnside

NE44th Street SafetyMy daughter was almost run over by a speeding car one December morning while leaving our car to get on her school bus. We have 12 young children on our street who play outside and will be playing more frequently in the summer. We have noted many incidents of speeding up and down the streets. This is a residential area with an elementary school in the neighborhood and older school age children as well. Drivers should be careful when driving within the neighborhood and need to be forced to slow down. Some of our neighbors have already filed a police complaint regarding this issue and a request for the three changes but have not heard back.14 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Archana Sunil

Texans labeling GMO'sThe risks of consuming food containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are still mostly unknown, but large food corporations have actively lobbied against labeling food containing GMOs. Texans should be given a choice about whether or not to purchase genetically modified food, so I support labeling all food that contains GMOs.1,974 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Lillie Havlik
