New Jersey’s Sandy recovery effort is a disaster in itself. The system is so broken that legislators unanimously passed a Sandy Bill of Rights for home and business owners in desperate need of relief. And then, incredibly, Governor Christie vetoed it. Even worse, the Republican legislators who voted for the bill are running scared from the Governor and now have refused to override his veto. The Sandy Bill of Rights would force the state to be upfront about application requirements for Sandy aid, allow applicants to track their aid applications online, and give applicants a clear reason for why their aid requests were denied or put on hold. It will also help ensure that aid is distributed on the basis of need and not politics. This is a winnable fight, but only if we convince legislators that they should be more frightened of a backlash from voters than a backlash from Governor Christie.

I am starting this petition because I experienced having to change my baby's diaper on a bathroom floor in a restaurant which was absolutely disgusting. This petition is to require all restaurants to have changing tables in both women and men's bathrooms. This will help promote cleanliness and a proper area for a parent to change a child.

And there's a wonderful way for us as a country to honor her: by commemorating her life with a United States Postal Service stamp. Stamps have featured people for their notable accomplishments in the arts. They have included American heroes, but one is missing. Maya Angelou was influential in so many ways: she was Hollywood's first black female director, a best-selling author of 36 books and presidential inauguration poet. That's why there's movement to create a stamp in her honor. Will you add your name?

Jane Byrne is 81 years old and in frail health. Her accomplishments during her tenure (1979-1983) as Chicago's first elected woman are still benefitting citizens of this city. Her history and her contributions should be acknowledged in an equally enduring way while she is able to appreciate that she will be remembered when she is no longer with us.

My daughter was almost run over by a speeding car one December morning while leaving our car to get on her school bus. We have 12 young children on our street who play outside and will be playing more frequently in the summer. We have noted many incidents of speeding up and down the streets. This is a residential area with an elementary school in the neighborhood and older school age children as well. Drivers should be careful when driving within the neighborhood and need to be forced to slow down. Some of our neighbors have already filed a police complaint regarding this issue and a request for the three changes but have not heard back.

The risks of consuming food containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are still mostly unknown, but large food corporations have actively lobbied against labeling food containing GMOs. Texans should be given a choice about whether or not to purchase genetically modified food, so I support labeling all food that contains GMOs.

I was blocked from voting in the last Federal elections; and, until the recent court ruling, I was not going to be able to vote in any future elections.

My brother has been in a custody battle for his 2 sons. He had a court hearing today to hopefully finalize the custody. His 2 sons and a DHS representative went before a separate judge who stated he had taken over the case. This judge after hearing from the boys and DHS awarded custody to my brother. The boy's mom then began to throw a fit and went before Judge Smith who had been presiding over the case. After hearing from her and her only he turned over the other judge's order and gave custody to her. This same judge, Judge Smith, has previously granted an emergency custody order to my brother to remove his 2 sons from their mother's custody due to signs of both verbal and physical abuse. Why would a judge send 2 boys back into harm to a mother that has history of abusing them. Please help me protect and be a voice for these 2 boys and remove Judge Smith.

Some in Congress are attacking the Obama Administration for using diplomacy and transferring prisoners from Guantanamo to bring home U.S. prisoner of war Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. No critic of the Administration has explained how President Obama and Secretary of Defense Hagel were supposed to bring Bowe home without negotiating with the Taliban or agreeing to the prisoner transfer. None has explained why, if the prisoners at Guantanamo are "prisoners of war," they should not be treated like prisoners of war in other conflicts: exchanged for other prisoners of war, or released at the end of hostilities.
