My husband is a person with a disability: an amputee.. We have a NYC DOT Handicap Tag, we went to Yonkers Raceway and parked in the handicap parking spot at the casino. When we returned to our vehicle we had a $230 dollar ticket issued because we parked in the handicap with a NYC HANDICAP TAG and were found guilty because we were not residents of Yonkers(Though it did not specify Handicap parking for Yonkers residents only). Persons with Disabilities should be able to Park on any NYS casino grounds even if they are not residents of that City.

Further, 39% are people of color, and over 75% are socially networked, and vast majorities support the Dream Act, marriage equality, fair labor standards, and access to education. These voices are diverse, abundant, and educated, but are not being represented in our politics. If you want to move the country forward, you must have progressive leadership. We know investing in young candidates works—over half of members of Congress were elected before the age of 35—but the median age of a Member of Congress has actually risen steadily since 1981 and our current Congress is one of the oldest in U.S. history. Our political infrastructure is risk averse, and it continues to reward politicians who maintain the status quo, rather than invest in a new generation of representatives who will be accountable to our nation's progressive values. We call upon our political establishment to champion young, progressive candidates who will become our nation's future public servants and political leaders. Regardless of party identification, progressive voices need to be empowered. A new progressive generation can lead the way. We ask the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee to adopt policies in their party platforms to recruit and support young, progressive candidates from top to down ballot races.

The actions of former Gallaudet University president I. King Jordan, during his tenure, have cast a pall over the entire Gallaudet Community when he maneuvered to promote his own handpicked choice for his successor. The board's plans to grant an honorary degree to Jordan during commencement next May are unfounded, disrespectful and detrimental to the vitality of its own stakeholders.

Men in this prison are having to take showers in freezing water, the hot water is turned off! and there is no heat in their cells. And it's winter time.They are numb when they get out of the showers in Avenal State Prison. And there is no heat in their cells! They have no voice, so we must stand in the Gap for them. I am personally affected by this as well as hundreds of other families.

Bay Oaks Recreation Center (BORC) is a community park frequented by our youngest to our most senior residents/visitors of our island with it's mission being to promote a safe and healthy lifestyle for all. Whether you are at the pool, the athletic fields, or walking to/from the recreation indoor facility you should not have to tolerate the smell or sight of rotting garbage being collected from the island and dumped next to our leisure and athletic facilities. It is much worse for those that suffer from asthma, or other respiratory illnesses, to the point that they cannot remain at the facility. Your support through your voice/signature is needed! While the rest of the world mourns Nelson Mandela and celebrates his courageous leadership, one Roman Catholic bishop just issued a statement accusing Mandela of "shameful promotion of abortion." Pope Francis has warned that the Catholic Church should not focus exclusively on abortion and gay marriage, and his own statement on Mandela's death made no mention of abortion, nor did that of the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Rhode Island bishop Thomas Tobin, who earlier this year said he was "disappointed" with the pope for not speaking about abortion more often, is so single-minded that he can't even mark the passing of one of the world's most beloved leaders without using it as an opportunity to wage culture war.

California Republicans have stooped to a new low­ in their ongoing misinformation campaign to turn voters against Obamacare. They have created a fake health care website to discourage people from getting health insurance, and they are using official mailers to send constituents to the site. Instead of sending constituents to CoveredCA.com, the official California health insurance exchange site, Republicans created CoveringHealthCareCA.com. The Republican website poses as a hub for health care information but just contains negative information about Obamacare that could discourage people from obtaining health insurance. Deceiving the public to carry out a political agenda has to stop. Please sign the petition denouncing California Republicans for their misinformation campaign, and demand they take the site down.

Cancer has affected my family, and most families of my friends and relatives. It cannot be escaped, unless the basic bio-molecular causes are understood, and the proper and effective treatments created.

My son, Aaron Lawrence was just 20 years young when his "friends" left him to die alone behind a bedroom door...they did not call for help until 4 hours later. He was 3 blocks from our home, a phone call to 911, to us, to someone who cared enough could have saved him. With the Good Samaritan Law many lives could be saved.....my son may still be here. We cannot sit back "talk" or "decide" if this law will work or drag our feet any longer! Our children and loved ones are dying senselessly and WE THE PEOPLE have got to come together to change this TODAY!!!!! TOMORROW WILL BE TOO LATE!!!!!
