  • Demand Ronald Weiser resign from the Board of Regents
Ronald Weiser has referred to majority elected Women Officials (Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson and Attorney General, Dana Nessel) as "Witches" and has called for their assassination and for them to be "burned at the stake". There is no place for this language or behavior by a person in his position of trust.

  • Cut the Pentagon Budget!
Despite being elected to move away from Trump policies of the past, despite a clear reckoning on our priorities in the wake of COVID, and despite the fact that budgets are moral documents, President Biden is likely to propose a $740 BILLION budget that would keep Pentagon spending at Trump-era levels. Disappointed doesn’t begin to cut it. We’re furious. A growing chorus in Congress is too. But while Congress, not the White House, is ultimately in control of the purse strings, progressive champions can’t stop this budget on their own. That’s why we need to turn the pressure up even higher, and remind everyone in Congress and the White House: We want our priorities put back in order and that means cutting the Pentagon budget.

  • SBA: Change the Rules for 2nd Round Self-Employed PPP Loans - Make the New Rules Retroactive
The rule change is a huge benefit for self-employed people. They can now use their gross income from their Schedule C to determine the final loan amount in the 2nd round of PPP funding. However, not allowing for the rule change to be retroactive to those who already received their 2nd round money is absolutely unfair. This decision is affecting tens of thousands of self-employed people whose only mistake was to apply and receive their 2nd round of PPP money before the rule change. A CNBC article: "How just a few days cost some small businesses thousands on their PPP forgivable loans explains the issue thoroughly.

  • Save Mākaha Beach
Update 12/22: Being that the newly constructed bridges are still in a FEMA “flood zone,” the community is still concerned about climate change and beach erosion that we see happening today. We need to be proactive about these safety measures, considering there's only one way in and out; no alternative means the community would be stranded in a disaster, no way to receive emergency services, food supplies, etc. Is there an emergency plan of action for a case like this? There is also a desire to restore ancient marshlands (muliwai), a culturally significant area where Ohana's (families) are meant to come malama and gather, it'll be an outdoor classroom for all; if the water is restored, we could raise fish to conserve the environment and reintroduce some endemic to this area which is O'opu, 'Ōpae, Anae, HawaiianDamselfly and other natural resources that are impacted by Kili Drive and the two bridges currently standing. The Master Plan is a much safer and smarter choice as it will take the bridges out of the flood zone and keep us safe from high surf, climate change, natural disasters, and the natural effects of beach erosion. It will also take away this straightaway route that is known for speeding, drunk driving, and fatalities, and it'll also showcase the beauty of Mākaha with a more scenic route.

  • Unsafe BUS STOP BY DAYCARE
We service the marginalized families in the Red Hook Community and are commited to child safety. The decision to install the bus stop outside our school was in reckless disregard for the safety of our children. At NO TIME were we consulted or advised that a bus stop was being installed outside our school. We would have vociferously expressed our concerns. Since the installation of this bus stop, we have reached out to express our concerns. Sadly, this fell on deaf ears. We live in daily fear that someone will get hurt or WORSE because of the danger of the bus turning on our corner where parents cross the street to enter/leave our building. Also, many of our children leave our building when it is dark during the winter months. The children and families of the Red Hook houses deserve a safe environment like their counterparts in gentrified neighborhoods. As advocates for our families and community, we DEMAND that this bus stop is removed. Please help keep our children safe!!!

  • Make Daylight Savings Time Permanent
Make daylight savings time permanent. It is an antiquated practice that negatively affects the mental health and well-being of people every year during the colder months. As a clinician and LCSW, and I am convinced it would help many who suffer with Seasonal Affective Disorder each winter in a marked, clinically relevant sense. Many use therapeutic light lamps and infrared light, and even medication. These are helpful, but that extra daylight during waking hours is vital to mental health. Thanks!

  • Abolish mandatory sentencing and promote the release of any non violent offenders.
We have the worlds biggest population of our own citizens incarcerated out of any country in the world. Alot of these cases should be handled with a more rehabilitation oriented sentencing guideline so these Americans do not end up in the stuck up cycle of being institutionalized and therefore the future rippling effects mainly affecting families and the recurring arrests and incarcerations.

  • Support HB3922 & Make Juneteenth A Illinois State Holiday
Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the United States. It is also known as Emancipation Day, Juneteenth Independence Day, and Black Independence Day. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, TX, and announced the end of the civil war and the end of slavery. Although the Emancipation Proclamation came 2½ years earlier on January 1, 1863, many slave owners continued to hold their slaves captive after the announcement, so Juneteenth became a symbolic date representing African American freedom. Juneteenth is not a federal holiday. Forty-five states and the District of Columbia recognize Juneteenth as a holiday or observance.

  • Unlock Police Body Cameras with Analytics
Less than 0.1% of police body camera video files are ever reviewed. There is simply too much data for a human to review. However, this data contains valuable insights that can be used to generate police performance metrics. Wearing body cameras alone is not enough. The audio data can be analyzed by natural language processing to increase transparency and trust in the police.
