Over the last couple of months we had 2 unfortunate circumstances that required emergency veterinary service. On each occasion the "itemized" charges were 3 and 4 times the price of ordinary business hours veterinary care. The business model takes advantage of loving pet owners that would go into debt to help their precious loved ones. Costs of second shift operations do not justify the devious practices of blatant over-charging occurring in many of these after-hours clinics, taking advantage of compassionate pet owners willing to pay any cost to save their pet. What does this do to the majority of pets whose owners simply cannot afford these fees?

The Roman Catholic Bishop of Bismarck, David Kagan, has just issued a pastoral letter that echoes Republican campaign ads urging voters not to pick the "likeable" candidate and warns Catholics they can only vote for candidates who oppose marriage equality, abortion rights, and even stem cell research. But now State Senator Tim Mathern, a practicing Catholic, is courageously demanding that the bishop withdraw the letter, citing church teaching on the primacy of conscience and the bishops' official guidelines on avoiding partisan activity. If we can demonstrate huge grassroots outrage before the letter is read at Mass this weekend, the bishop might be forced to withdraw it -- and we can send a powerful message to other church officials across the country who might be tempted to abuse their positions for partisan political purposes in the final days before the election.

my grandsons live appox. 11/2 from school& the have to walk or have someone take them& pick them up. Because the policy here in Altoona,Pa. is If they live 2 miles from the school. The School Provides NO Buses.That is way to far for any child to walk.Because there is to much Crime -Raping,Kidnapping& Child Snatching.going on nowadays. One reads it all the time where kids walking to School disappear& they end up finding them raped,killed&etc. Question: What if it was ine of you Kids or Grand kids,or someone in your family.How would you feel.
