• We seek a Presidential Proclamation proclaiming January as "Support Group Awareness Month"
Support groups are empowering and cost effective community resources, that have been shown to decrease the need for professional services for at-risk populations, while also reducing recidivism for those who receive professional treatment. Groups enhance coping skills and enable their members to enjoy a better quality of life, even as older members help newer ones.

  • No "Chained" COLA, add food & energy back in to CPI
The administration and Congress are promoting a plan to "Chain" the consumer price index used to calculate the annual Cost of Loving Allowance for Social Security recipients. This "Chaining" would assume that as the price of an item increases, consumers would buy a different item. This is blatantly unfair to those who contributed to Social Security in good faith their whole lives.

  • Retiree Pension Offset for VA Disability Less Than 50%
It is a concern as it is an unfair law that "ONLY" effects the military man or woman who is a military retiree and also has a VA rated disability less than 50%. No other Federal employee is effected by this law when they retiree from federal service. Regardless of their disability rating if they have one, they are allowed to collect both without offset to their pension.

  • President Obama: It's time to start the conversation about poverty in America and the growing divide
I'm asking you to sign my petition requesting President Barrack Obama to address poverty in the United States. Tavis Smiley and Dr. Cornell West are doing their part to bring this issue to light. Yet, no where in our mainstream media do we hear about poverty. Did you know that during the Chicago teacher strike last year, schools in our Presidents home town were left open so the children could get food to eat? Did you know that 1 in 2 babies born in the United States is eligible for WIC? 150 Million, yes that is half of our nation are considered the working poor. This is a national security issue. We are leaving American's behind in the face of soaring Wall Street profits. This doesn't make any sense. Who are we as American's to allow 50% of our population to live in these type of conditions? How can we call ourselves a great nation? To learn more about the issue of poverty please take time to watch the recent forum in January. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIpHmocynjQ I urge you to sign this petition and help your fellow American citizens.

  • Illegal Inspection Ordinance in Highland Park NJ
The Borough of Highland Park has quietly passed and illegal ordinance (135-25) which requires ALL Highland Park residents to register their home for inspection, and pay $100 per upto 3x per year! Each time you rent your property you must pay $100 and allow inspectors into your home for their approval. This is unprecedented compared to normal inspection regulations. (1x every 3 years) If you do not or do not agree you can be fined $500 per day as long as the BHP sees fit. The town has also criminalized housing matters which means you could be arrested as a criminal in your home. This of course is against the law but the Judge Herman of Highland Park does not seem to care as long as you keep paying and filling his coffers. As of 2012 the relavent case law Heine vs NJ states very clearly a municipality can NOT criminalize housing matters and fine citizens let alone arrest them for housing tickets. This illegal ordinance and fining must be stopped!

  • STOP CONDITIONAL USE INCENTIVES
We believe the need for Conditional Use Incentives no longer exists for Delray Beach downtown development property. Goals in the Master Plan & Comprehensive Plan need to be updated and Land Use codes revised to minimize the risk of overbuilding in the downtown area. Until such time, a moratorium on Conditional Use Applications should be instituted immediately.

  • Oppose Doubling Connecticut River Ferry Fares
Connecticut Department of Transportation has proposed doubling the fares on the Chester-Hadlyme and Rocky Hill-Glastonbury ferries as of July 1. Such a dramatic price increase will undoubtedly discourage use of the ferries and result in decreased ridership, possibly to the point of actually reducing total revenues. DOT should give serious consideration to other alternatives.
