• Save Social Security
I have already lost many benefits from my job with the State of Nevada - ie - being forced off the insurance plan. I can not afford to lose more benefits from Social Security. Also, my meager retirement from the State of Nevada is tied to social security as well. I and educators like myself will continue to pay the brunt of the costs while wealthy get to keep their riches and refuse to pay appropriate taxes

  • Why cutting Social Security is useless and wrong
Republicans, and some Democrats, want us to believe that Social Security must be cut in order to reduce the deficit. They are either lying or very misinformed. The truth is that Social Security is not only in good condition, Social Security is in no way related to the deficit or the Deficit Shortfall. They are two entirely different funds and one has nothing to do with the other. The Social Security fund consists of monies already paid into Social Security from workers past and present. According to most economists, Social Security is solvent and will remain in good health for decades to come, and any fine tuning that may be needed can be done in the next decade or two. The truth is: not one single cent of any payment ever made by Social Security comes from, or affects the budget, or the budget deficit in any way. Never has. Never will. So why is anyone ever talking about cutting Social Security? Some say Republicans want to get their hands on the money. Some say it's a distraction. What ever the reason, we need to start understanding and talking about the real deficit problems and not be sidetracked or hoodwinked by another Republican lie... fix the deficit with something that has absolutely nothing to do with deficit. This petition lets our representatives know that we are becoming educated on the truth and reality of the situation, urges them to do the same (if they have not already), and to stand up being more vocal about the truth and real deficit problems, and especially, to do their job - represent the will of the people who elected them.

  • President Obama cuts in Social Security
I'm currently receiving Social Security and that's my source of income for living. The cuts would affect me and millions of others who rely on these benefits for just everyday necessities. Thank you very much for your help in this important life situation. Please stop the cuts from Social Security! We need help!

  • Social Security Should Not Be A Bargaining Chip
The Obama administration is allowing the Republican minority to dictate the terms of the current debate. The current threat, proposed by Obama!, is to reduce Social Security by a subtle adjustment of the Cost of Living calculation.

  • Preserve Our Social Security
Social Security is not the right place to address the deficit. Tell the President and your fellow members of Congress not to support any cuts in Social Security and not to change the way cost of living increases for retirees are calculated.

  • Do Not Cut Social Security or Medicare
President Obama has proposed cutting Social Security by lowering cost-of-living adjustments for current and future retirees. These cuts, sometimes called "chained CPI," will hurt seniors who have paid into the system for their whole lives and are already struggling with rising health care costs. Eighty-seven percent of registered voters 50 and older say it's "very important" that policymakers not cut benefits for current or near retirees. Social Security is sound for many years to come. It can be made even stronger by raising the ceiling on high-income contributions. Instead of cutting Medicare benefits, allow Medicare to make huge savings by negotiating prices with the greedy Drug Companies. Representative Swalwell, you’ve said you will defend Social Security. You can take a strong stand against President Obama's cuts to Social Security and Medicare by signing Representatives Grayson and Takano's letter to the President. It says "That’s why we write to let you know that we will vote against any and every cut to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security benefits -- including raising the retirement age or cutting the cost of living adjustments that our constituents earned and need." Read the full letter here: http://act.boldprogressives.org/survey/survey_ss_grayson/#fullletter Voters, you can sign petitions opposing cuts to Social Security and Medicare addressed to other officials here: http://signon.org/
