• President Obama: Remove age restrictions on Over-the-Counter-Emergency-Contraception
If a girl is old enough to get pregnant, she is old enough to use this emergency contraceptive. You do not have the right to impose your beliefs on others. There is no medical reason to support the restriction of access to anyone of any age. Unless you can show a very good reason for this restriction, please step out of the way of something women have the right to decide for themselves, even 12 yr old's.

  • Sexual assaults in the military
I have not been personally affected but it shows a great deal of insensitivity towards women to put men in charge of the investigation. It is a great deal more difficult for women to talk to men about these issues then it is to women. Men can not relate to women in the same way a woman can. There is already a mistrust by women towards men due to theses bad experiences and now they are expected to tell MEN all about it. Two men in charge of the investigations have already been charged with sexual harassment at this point. Don't put the fox in charge of the hen house.

  • Women's Reproductive Rights
My petition is about women having the ultimate say in what is done to their bodies, not men. It is a woman's body and she should have the right to make her own decisions. Right now, women are being treated as slaves when it comes to abortion, or any other rights she has over her body.

  • Pass the New York Women’s Equality Agenda
In January 2013, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his 10-point Women’s Equality Agenda, which addresses a wide array of barriers facing women. If passed, this desperately needed legislation will: 1. Ensure equal pay for equal work. 2. Stop sexual harassment in all workplaces. 3. Allow for the recovery of attorneys’ fees in employment and credit and lending cases. 4. Strengthen human trafficking laws. 5. End family status discrimination. 6. Prevent landlords from denying housing based on the source of funds. 7. Stop housing discrimination for victims of domestic violence. 8. End pregnancy discrimination once and for all. 9. Protect domestic violence victims seeking orders of protection. 10. Protect reproductive health care decisions. New York State has a very proud history when it comes to women’s rights. But even today, women are paid on average $11,000 less per year than men for the same job. Women with children are less likely to be recommended for hire and promoted. And women are twice as likely to become a single parent living in poverty or to live out old age in poverty. Beyond that, New York is a major destination for sex and labor trafficking victims, and penalties for trafficking do not match the severity of the crime. The Women’s Equality Agenda will help to finally end these injustices and close the wage gap. It will give women access to better jobs and opportunities for advancement, safety at home and at work, and the right to make private, personal health care decisions. There are only a few weeks left in the legislative session. The women of New York have waited long enough. Pass the Women’s Equality Agenda today. • Special Issue Treasury Note: America should borrow from Americans first.
The US Treasury should refinance a portion of the existing national debt by issuing a Special Issue Note made available only to US citizens with a social security number. The note should carry a minimum coupon of 3% (the current cost of 30yr UST bonds) and should be redeemable any time at 100% of the face amount of the note thereby eliminating the duration and interest rate sensitivity risks of owning long term bonds. The special issue note should be administered through TreasuryDirect.gov., an existing on-line platform. The purpose of this Special Issue Note is to provide an investment safe haven for the middle class and elderly citizens who have been severely impacted by the disappearance of federally insured bank deposit products. The disappearance of these bank products has been a direct result of the Federal Reserve Quantitative Easing (QE) strategy. These classes of people have depleted savings and implemented household austerity programs for the past five years and can no longer withstand the drain on household wealth caused by the QE program. This Special Issue Note will reduce the financial impact of QE on the middle class and the elderly at very little cost to the US Government.

  • Disney: Return Merida To Her Empowering Roots
In 2012 Disney Pixar released "Brave", giving fans and families a truly daring and adventurous heroine who was a welcome break from the long-standing Disney Princess brand. For a family like mine, concerned about gender stereotypes and sexualization in childhood, Merida was the princess we had been waiting for. To our dismay, Disney has given Merida a very adult-looking makeover, along with the other princesses. By sexualizing Merida, Disney is sending the message to kids everywhere that being a princess isn't about being brave, it is about being pretty.

  • STOP Act: Put an end to sexual violence in the military
Sexual violence in the U.S. military is a crisis. The Pentagon estimates that sexual assaults increased from 19,000 in 2011 to 26,000 in 2012. That's 71 sexual assaults EVERY DAY, and in roughly 56% of cases, the victims are men. Making matters worse, each branch of the armed forces has its own judicial system. It's currently legal for base commanders to overturn a jury's guilty verdict, as happened at Aviano Air Force Base in February 2013. The STOP Act takes the prosecution, reporting, oversight, investigation, and victim care of sexual assaults out of the normal military chain of command -- which has proven grossly ineffective -- and places jurisdiction in an autonomous Sexual Assault Oversight and Response Office. Join us to help pass it.
