• RI Governor Raimondo, Please Endorse and Enforce Our Forgotten Lyme Laws.
Dear Governor Raimondo, In 2002 and 2004 Rhode Island passed two new laws guaranteeing doctors the freedom to treat Lyme disease as they clinically see fit as long as it is well documented. RI GL § 5-37.5-4. In addition, insurance payments for these treatments shall not be denied “because such treatment may be characterized as unproven, experimental, or investigational in nature.” RI GL 27-18/29/20 “Mandatory coverage for certain Lyme disease treatments.” However, these lawfully enacted rights and freedoms have been purposefully obscured, denied, and totally disregarded since their enactment. This failure to regard the law has caused truly unmeasurable amounts of physical, financial, emotional and spiritual pain and suffering for many citizens in the state of Rhode Island. Total individual financial burdens in our state reach well into the millions of dollars, expenses paid out of pocket for treatments and medicines denied and “forbidden”. Doctors continue to live in fear, with many refusing any Lyme patient, and others working “under the radar”. We ask that you insure enforcement of our Lyme laws, and thereby fully establish our rights and freedoms for competent, compassionate and fear free care for the tick borne diseases in Rhode Island. Thank You/Signed Your Name --------------------- National and international signatures welcome! And please do comment, particularly if you, your family members, animals and pets, friends or acquaintances live, work and/or “play” in Rhode Island and have been challenged by the inability of our medical delivery system to deliver, accurate, humane and compassionate care for our tick borne diseases. And please, do share, good numbers do count, and every one of your signatures are important. To Good Health, And Thank You... LymeTimeInRI @ gmail, FaceBook, Twitter, LinkedIn

  • New York Times: Bret Stephens Must Go
Bret Stephens is a bigot and climate-science denier. He has a Constitutional right to share his attacks on Muslims, women, climate scientists. However, he doesn't deserve the payment and prestige of the New York Times. Stephens' first column, "Climate of Complete Certainty," was riddled with misleading statements and factual missteps. Stephens' work is in service of a campaign of deceit devised by ExxonMobil and other members of the fossil-fuel industry—which has been well reported by the Times. For years, the Times ran misleading and false ads by ExxonMobil attacking climate science on its opinion pages. Thankfully, that past error has since been corrected. Since the election of Donald Trump, the Times has been running an ad campaign claiming the paper's leadership believes "The Truth Is More Important Than Ever." It is time for the Times to remain consistent with its professed respect for the truth, reverse its hiring error and let Bret Stephens go.

  • Governor Abbott: Veto SB 4—Don't turn Texas police into Trump's deportation force
Texas Governor Greg Abbott plans to sign SB 4—the most dangerous anti-immigration bill in the country—into law in the coming days. It could become law, unless we speak out and fight this bill every step of the way. SB 4 obligates local law enforcement to detain people (even unlawfully) for the federal government, and it prohibits localities from imposing restrictions on collaboration with ICE. The bill even criminalizes local elected officials, like me, who stand up for our communities. But most of all, this legislation would terrorize communities of color and turn our local police into Trump's deportation force. That's why I joined a group of clergy, elected officials, and communities in a staged sit-in at Gov. Abbott's office to oppose this legislation. I know how painful immigration raids are to our communities. During one of the ruthless immigration raids that hit Austin earlier this year, I sat in a constituent's living room. Earlier that day, immigration officers had knocked on this family's door. The children were confused, terrorized, and thought they were going to lose their parent. That is a trauma that will stay with them. Now Republican politicians have decided they want our children to experience this terror and trauma every time they see a police officer. But today's action at the governor's office—and your signature on this petition—is proof that many of us across Texas and the country are declaring that we refuse to betray our community. We will fight this legislation in the courts, in our halls of government, and by organizing in our communities. It will take all of us standing up and speaking to stop this legislation and protect our communities. I hope you’ll work with us to stop Senate Bill 4, because we need you.

  • School Zone Signs
I believe that you are in agreement and will stand with me in ensuring that with a safer designed school zone our Providence of Englewood scholars as well as surrounding residents will be able to safely cross this intersection by the proper placement of digital 15 mph signs. In the 2016-2017 school year several pedestrians have had instances where they came very close to being struck by speeding vehicles; including myself. These Radar signs will visually alert drivers of current speed of their vehicle and to not exceed a speed limit of 15 mph during school hours. I hope you agree that our children deserve the right to safely cross the street just as at other school zones. Let us move forward in addressing this traffic control issue together for a safer school zone for our children.

  • Oppose a gun store at Routes 45 & 83
We respectfully request that the Planning and Zoning Commission of Mundelein deny the request for a variance for the proposed property at 800 East Route 45, Mundelein. We believe that the location of a business which would sell firearms and ammunition to civilians would be better suited to an area already zoned for that usage and that such areas already exist in the village of Mundelein. The property at 800 East Route 45 abuts a day care center, two residential neighborhoods, a retirement home, and is on a main thoroughfare within a mile of three churches, youth baseball and softball fields, and a day camp. We, the undersigned, do not believe that this business is consistent with the Planning and Zoning Commission’s Comprehensive Plan because it would not strengthen existing industrial and business uses. We also believe that it would not revitalize the area as a shopping destination and community gateway because the existing neighboring retail properties are already occupied.

  • House: Back @DanielBiss' SB982. Make @POTUS Candidates Disclose Tax Returns
On April 27, the Illinois Senate passed a bill sponsored by Sen. Daniel Biss that would require presidential candidates to disclose five years' worth of income tax returns to appear on the ballot in Illinois. “This is about transparency and good government," Biss said. "It’s something we need, and, frankly, it’s something I wish we’d had a year and a half ago." Senate Bill 982 now goes to the Illinois House for consideration. [1] Until 2016, major-party candidates for president had voluntarily released their returns since the Ford administration. Biss said voters should be able to look at information about a presidential candidate’s sources of income and investments so they can understand where potential conflicts of interests may lie. “Voters should be able to make up their own minds about a candidate based upon their own priorities and their own interests," Biss said. [2] Urge your Representative in the Illinois House to support SB 982 by signing our petition.
