• Safety Deficit in FDA’s Medical Device Regulatory Framework.
I, among thousands of others and their families who have personally been harmed by the Power Morcellator, are fighting for our lives. We and concerned citizens ask for your immediate attention on this health threat and direct support – so that 1) the "Guardians" are honored and H.R. 5404 becomes law, and 2)that you also oversee that Congress acts to dismantle FDA's dangerous 510K predicate legislation as the IOM researched and adamantly advised in 2009. Dear Mr. President Trump, I am writing to draw you attention to critical national health threat in the United States. In particular the medical surgical device known as the power morcellator, which for 23 years is devastating women’s lives across the United States, for which the Government Accountability Office recently criticized the FDA's lack of action. This disaster in women’s health has highlighted a critical safety deficit in FDA’s medical device regulatory framework. Specifically the 510K predicate legislation, that greenlights new "similar" medical devices through the FDA without any patient clinical trials or post-surveillance. 510K is still in use even after the Institute of Medicine (IOM) strongly advised it to be dismantled as the institute could not ensure device saftey. But I would also like to draw your attention that the power morcellator disaster has demonstrated that federal law does not require individual physicians to “self-report” adverse outcomes associated with the use of FDA approved medical device back to FDA. These critical professional failures have led to the premature or unnecessary loss of many unsuspecting American women’s lives. Mr. President, the power morcellator will most certainly not only be the example of a dangerous medical device harming American patients, undetectable by the safety counterpoints of the FDA’s “radar screen” because of 1) 510K predicate medical device greenlighting and 2) lax or absent safety and reporting requirements. On June 8, 2016 U.S. Congressional representatives Mike Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and Ryan Zinke (R-MT) introduced a bill in honor of the women fallen to disaster by power morcellators. This bill is named the Medical Device Guardians Act (H.R. 5404). H.R. 5404 seeks to codify a mandate of the AMA’s Code of Medical Ethics regarding physicians’ responsibility to self-report adverse outcomes associated with the use of medical devices (AMA Code of Ethics. Opinion 9.032) – this bill also serves to protect the reporting physician from malpractice liability, should he/she self-report an adverse outcome. Mr. President, H.R. 5404 is a fully non-partisan and totally bipartisan bill. It will very certainly save lives in the United States and abroad, because it will provide high fidelity danger signals to public health experts at FDA. But, as you well know, most proposed bills die in the House of Representatives. We are almost certain that unless you rise with us immediately with executive action and look at this public health threat in the medical device space, and at this simple and cogent legislative measure, H.R. 5404 will die too. We ask for your immediate attention on this health threat, and direct support – so that the Guardians are honored and H.R. 5404 becomes law and that you oversee that Congress acts to dismantle FDA's dangerous 510K predicate legislation as the IOM researched and adamently advised in 2009.

  • Secretary Tillerson: Meet With U.S. Citizens in Mexico
The Trump administration has proposed changes to NAFTA that could adversely affect commerce on both sides of the border. President Trump has spoken of leveling import fees on products of Mexico which could lead to retaliatory actions. President Trump has called for the construction of a wall that could cost upwards of $20 billion even while America’s own infrastructure is decaying. He has declared he will deport up to 8 million people which will break apart families and adversely affect important sectors of the U.S. economy, including hospitality, agriculture, and construction. Finally, his planned actions could seriously erode the bi-lateral relationship between the two neighboring nations. Just this month some 20,000 Mexicans marched in protest of the Trump Republican Administration. As no one else, those of us Americans who are concerned about these policies, and who also make our homes in Mexico, are in a unique position to provide the Secretary of State a viewpoint that he might not receive in Washington, D.C. We call on Secretary Tillerson to meet with us at a time and place of his convenience during his visit.

  • It's as Easy as 1, 2, 3 -- As Taxpayers We Agree, Tell Congress: Stand TALL, Vote: NO WAY -- NO WALL
FACT: WE ALREADY HAVE EFFECTIVE SECURITY MEASURES AT THE BORDER. Pursuant to The Secure Fence Act of 2006, at a cost of over $2.4 Billion, we have already constructed 670 miles of border fencing along our southern border, primarily in populated areas and where most border crossings have occurred. This fencing is supplemented by surveillance cameras, drone aircraft, and increased law enforcement presence. According to a 2016 Pew Report (using U.S. Border Patrol data), BORDER CROSSINGS IN 2015 WERE AT A 50-YEAR LOW, largely due to these enhanced border security measures. FACT: THE WALL WILL NOT NECESSARILY INCREASE BORDER SECURITY. According to one Republican Congressman from Texas, the state with a 1200 mile border with Mexico: "Building a wall is the most expensive and least effective way to secure the border" and ". . . is a third-century solution to a 21st Century problem." This opinion is echoed by a former Commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection who has said that anyone familiar with the southern border and its terrain (isolated deserts, rugged mountains, canyons, and the ever-changing 1200 mile Rio Grande river boundary) recognizes that a wall along the entire border is probably not going to work, is not feasible to build, and is not the smartest way to spend taxpayers' money. (American Immigration Council Fact Sheet, Jan. 25, 2017) FACT: THE WALL WILL NOT STOP DRUG TRAFFICKING. According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency's 2016 National Drug Threat Assessment Summary, the majority of illegal drugs are smuggled into the U.S. across the southern border via vehicles through under-staffed U.S. Ports of Entry and illicit tunnels (225 discovered since 1990). Both problems will continue to exist even if the Wall is built. FACTS: U.S. TAXPAYERS WILL PAY FOR THE WALL, NOT MEXICO. Despite Trump's continuing claim that Mexico will pay, he has no plan to achieve this. There's talk of a plan for the U.S. taxpayers to fund the wall, which will be reimbursed by the imposition of a 20% border tax on all Mexican imports. This is no solution!! A border tax would actually lead to a 20% TAX INCREASE on U.S. consumers; if levied, we would PAY TWICE for the Wall! We'd pay for the Wall a first time through appropriations and then a second time through the increased cost of consumer goods! Moreover, such a stiff tariff would likely lead to a U.S.-Mexico trade war that could destabilize both countries' economies. PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION. TELL CONGRESS TO VOTE "NO" TO TRUMP'S WALL!

  • Tell Governor Doug Ducey To Keep the Arizona National Guard Out of Donald Trump’s Deportation Force
According to the Associated Press, the Trump administration is considering a plan mobilize as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up millions of undocumented immigrants in states along the southern border. This includes states like California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas; as well as states adjacent to border states, like Oregon, Nevada, Arkansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Utah, and Louisiana. Governors have the final approval on National Guard deployments. This means Donald Trump’s plan won’t work without the support of Governors. So if we want to stop the systematic removal of millions of immigrants from the United States by the National Guard, we need to make sure Governors in the targeted states hear from their constituents. Please join with me and demand that Governor Doug Ducey does not authorize the Arizona National Guard from joining Donald Trump’s Deportation Force.

Sen. Ben Sasse's constituents are denied the opportunity to interact with him and ask him questions. He says for all of 2017, he will only hold telephone town halls. No such thing exists. We demand that he does his job & hold in-person town halls allowing his constituents to ask questions and receive answers.

  • Retire Senator Roy Blunt
Senator Roy Blunt we are asking for you to retire as US Senator of the State of Missouri on the grounds that you continually refuse to listen to Missouri constituents and hold a Town Hall meeting, with yourself present and accountable. This petition is also a direct reflection of your current voting standards. We are tired of your continued habits of strictly voting along party lines of the GOP. Sir, in doing so you have failed your Missouri constituents that represent a bipartisanship, and have thus grossly neglected the will of your fellow Missourians. You Sir- must step down and retire as Senator. Your vote for Scott Pruitt is clear evidence that you are no longer representing the peoples' voice of the State of Missouri.

  • Tell ICE to leave churches alone
Several Latino men had just left the hypothermia shelter at Rising Hope Mission Church in Alexandria, Virginia when a dozen federal agents suddenly surrounded them, pushed them up against a wall, and began checking their immigration status. Under a policy set by the Obama administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are supposed to avoid churches and other "sensitive locations." But now that Donald Trump is president, ICE has apparently decided that it's okay to lie in wait outside a church and indiscriminately detain those leaving it. This raid appears to be the first of its kind, so we need a huge national outcry immediately - before ICE attacks the sanctity of any more churches.

  • Sign the Petition: Demand Congress Use Its Power to Review Donald Trump’s Tax Returns
Citing a rarely used 1924 law, Representatives Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) and Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) are calling on their Republican colleagues to obtain and review the president’s tax returns. The law states that either the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee, or the Joint Committee on Taxation, may request anyone’s tax returns―including the president’s. The American people deserve to know whether President Trump has financial ties with Russia and how his businesses will benefit from policies he implements. With serious questions being raised over the administration’s potential ties to Russia, such a review is critical―not just to eliminate potential conflicts of interest―but to ensure our national security. Sign the petition today!

  • Solar Providers do NOT support PNM's New Mexico SB210/HB199
I support solar installations on New Mexico homes & businesses. Clean energy beats oil every time. PNM is trying to make it harder and more expensive to begin a solar project. I want to expose what is going on and to stop this bill in its tracks. PNM is behind this ALEC bill. They are pretending to be looking out for consumers but are actually making it much harder and more expensive to begin a solar project. For instance the bill recommends that the home owner get a TAX ATTORNEY to review the system! Here is the text of the bill. • Tell Governor Jerry Brown To Keep the California National Guard Out of Donald Trump's Deportation...
The Trump administration has announced that it will be sending National Guard troops to the border, even though crossings are at a 50-year low. There are already so many Border Patrol agents there that each agent makes an average of two arrests per month.
