President Biden just nominated Elliott Abrams — a hardline neoconservative, architect of catastrophic interventions and coups in Latin America, who was convicted of misleading Congress about the Iran-Contra affair — to the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy. Abrams' recent stint as Trump's special envoy to Iran and Venezuela is a glaring reminder of his approach to foreign policy and reckless disregard for humanitarian concerns. • Harm to Huff Park and the Natural Environment: Extra human activity, lights, and noise this close to the park would disrupt sensitive wildlife habitats, reduce bird populations, and degrade the park experience for thousands of visitors each year.  • Incompatible with the neighborhood: The Knapp/Joan area consists of single-family homes on ⅓ to ½ acre lots. It is zoned low-density-residential in both the new GR Zoning ordinance and on the Grand Rapids future land use map. Inserting a dense block of condos would split the neighborhood and permanently alter its character.  • Poor site planning: The current proposal is very car-centric and places a road directly facing the picture windows of nearby existing homes. It ignores magnificent existing trees and will require heavy site leveling of a site that has a lot of natural topography. What We Support • We are not opposed to all development. Thoughtful options like single-family homes or duplexes could integrate with the neighborhood and preserve the park’s habitat and character. But high-density, multi-family condos on this site are the wrong fit. 

Many lives are at risk.

There are thousands of fields in NYS that solar development companies can use to install solar "farm" plants. They put them in your backyard because it is cheaper for them and they make more money at an incredible expense to our health and welfare-all approved by our government. If we don't matter at all in a situation like this, what will be next? This can happen to anyone and it needs to stop.

Social media companies have turned the community power of social media into a blizzard of distraction. Instead of bringing us together, social media CEOs keep making decisions that make matters worse. Now Facebook is flooding its users with irrelevant posts that we didn't sign up for. CEO Mark Zuckerberg must reverse this decision and stop Facebook from becoming a total junkyard of useless distraction.

Google is well aware of the dangerous and harmful impact that ads from fake clinics have on pregnant people seeking abortion care. Google already came under fire after a report was released in 2021 regarding fake ads about “abortion pill reversal.” But despite their own policies against advertisers promoting “misleading information about products,” they have continued to host (and profit off of) similarly predatory ads. Additionally, they have a policy that clearly states: “if you want to run ads using queries related to getting an abortion, you will first need to be certified as an advertiser that either provides abortions or does not provide abortions. If you are not certified, you won’t be able to run ads using queries related to getting an abortion.” They are clearly not consistently enforcing their own policies.

Google boasts about supporting its LGBTQ+ employees, stating “authenticity should always be embraced.” Yet they were quick to cave to bigots who claimed that their optional Pride drag performance was “a direct affront to the religious beliefs and sensitivities of Christians.” If only a few hundred signatures could result in them canceling their sponsorship for a Pride event, what else might they be willing to roll back in an attempt to align themselves with anti-LGBTQ+ extremists? LGBTQ+ people and allies need to show up LOUDLY and STRONGLY in support of LGBTQ+ employees at Google and make it clear that we won’t allow Big Tech to cave to discrimination.
