The California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), California's giant pension fund, owns a major chunk of Energy Transfer Partners, the company building the fracked-oil Dakota Access Pipeline through the Standing Rock Sioux sacred lands in North Dakota. As of December 8, CalPERS owns 1,064,034 shares worth $36.8 million. In addition, CalSTRS, the schoolteachers' retirement fund, owns debt securities (bonds) worth $28.7 million. They used to own a lot of coal stock, too, until I wrote a resolution that ultimately became law (SB 185, 2015) requiring them to divest from coal. Now I've started a petition to CalPERS and CalSTRS to divest from Energy Transfer Partners. California retirees shouldn't be investing in this pipeline--investing in the destruction of their children's future. The pipeline is intended to carry fracked crude oil from North Dakota's Bakken shalefields through North and South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois. In the process of construction, Energy Transfer Partners has already damaged numerous sacred sites and would drill under the Missouri River, the sole drinking water source of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. The Army Corps of Engineers denied the permit to drill under the Missouri, but we expect the incoming Trump administration to ram the project through--if investors like CalPERS and CalSTRS keep backing this foolhardy project. If CalPERS and CalSTRS don't voluntarily divest, the California legislature will consider a bill, AB20, to require divestiture by 2018. So the smart money is on getting out of a climate-destroying project early. These pension funds are overseen by boards that include union and public officials, including California Treasurer John Chiang and Controller Betty Yee. They are directly accountable to the people of California and have a responsibility to all people to make ethical and responsible investments. I'm prepared to take on this fight again. But I need your help.

No internet service provider (ISP) shall not discriminate the flow of traffic to any and all websites. We ask for the internet to remain open and free from censorship and pay to play systems that benefit the wealthiest of online companies while hindering the competitive market that the internet currently is. Moreover, Net Neutrality should be protected like water rights for the internet is the largest collection of knowleged ever gathered together. A persons thirst for knowleged can not be quenched when they are limited to taking in the biased avenues of information forced upon them by profit driven coporations.

Donald Trump is unfit to be the president and most powerful leader of the world. His cabinet consists of extremists of the worst kind. His policies threaten everything Americans and the World hold dear, not the least of which includes the health of our one shared planet. We cannot let an unfit president take office. The Electors were designed to be our Constitutional safeguard against situations such as we are in. It is their duty to stand up for the welfare of our country and in this case, our world. We call on the Electors to do their duty and vote no to Trump for the sake of our children and future generations.

Donald Trump's Twitter following keeps increasing, and the days until he takes office as POTUS are dwindling. The president-elect uses his Twitter platform to incite abuse and threaten the safety of individuals who criticize his dangerous rhetoric. His Twitter is a potential (if not existing) threat to national security and the safety of individuals, groups, and organizations he targets. Taking away his Twitter platform (a social media channel he is known to use wrecklessly) will force him away from some of the spotlight he craves, and help protect those he targets.

It's enough. The people of Hagerstown need to break the monopoly held by Antietam cable. Prices continue to go up as service options and reliability decline. My bill has gone up $30 as my service level was eliminated and I am forced to pay for a higher level of service. We need our service for school, work, and entertainment. Congressional Progressive Caucus leaders Keith Ellison, Raul Grijalva, Mark Pocan and Barbara Lee have written to President-elect Trump, urging him to choose people to lead foreign policy in his Administration consistent with his campaign criticism of the Iraq war, not people who were prominent advocates for the Iraq war. The President-elect's behavior is so erratic that he appears to be very much like other public figures such as Saddam Hussein. He eschewed vitriol and rallied for outright violence, hate, and Constitutional violations - with impunity. This behavior from a leader signals this behavior should be the way of life for all citizens. It is not. Even now, before having the capacity and authority to bind the United States in any agreements (therefore not having the right to begin having negotiation talks with others) he is using various techniques to waste taxpayer dollars and put the country in peril for the sake of his ego. His grasp of ethics leaves a large question in the minds of many. His "mercurial" nature does not create a sense of what this country needs - sound and solid leadership and guidance. Already, he is delegating preparatory functions to his Vice President and refusing to attend national security briefings. This gives the appearance that Trump never wanted to hold office in the first place. Before being confirmed to hold office, Trump should be evaluated to determine whether he has the capacity to do so. If not, the Electoral ballots should be cast for another who more closely fits the requirements of capable of holding office without needing to resign because of the enumerated disqualification conditions: ". . . death, resignation, or temporary incapacitation, or if the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet judge that the President is no longer able to discharge the duties of the presidency."

Women deserve the right to control their own bodies. This bill is a blatant attack to take away that right in a fundamental way. You have the chance to be a voice for reason in a rapidly changing world.
