• Please Drop the Train Track Trespassing Charges. C-4 All 12.
On May 20th, 2016, twelve people were arrested for taking a short cut through an open field that had no fence, and no visible "No Trespassing" sign, that led over train tracks to a sidewalk onto Australian Avenue. We are asking that the trespassing charges be dropped on all 12 that were arrested, who were 4 Journalists and 8 Anonymous activists. Not one person that came to peacefully protest for Justice for Corey Jones that day ever intended on breaking any laws, or to instigate any aggression or provoke law enforcement, which was obvious, since none resisted arrest. We ask that you please consider recommending these charges be dropped.

  • The City of North Port NEEDS a resolution against the proposed 2016 Bear Hunt
We the Citizens request to be represented by The City of North Port in opposition to any future Florida bear hunts. The bear hunt of 2015 contradicted the science which identified low genetic diversity, land fragmentation, and reduction of habitat. Furthermore, the hunt was ill-managed, resulting in more permits sold than estimated bears in the state, underweight bears being killed, lactating mothers who were killed leaving a high number of orphaned cubs, as well as no oversight on private land, where the majority of bears were hunted. A resolution against the bear hunt sends a clear signal that the citizens insist on true conservation methods for our iconic wildlife.

  • COMMENT PERIOD CLOSED: We must defeat this proposal to build the nation's largest coal export ter...
Your urgent help is needed to defeat a proposal to build the nation’s largest coal export terminal. The Millennium coal export terminal would ship 44 million tons of coal annually to Asia via Longview, Washington, putting the local community at risk. It would also generate more greenhouse gas pollution in Asia, contributing to climate change. For the last six years, Earthjustice’s legal team has represented local communities opposed to the project. Now we have just a few weeks left to submit public comments on the draft environmental impact statement for this massive project. Make your voice heard today. Say NO to the largest coal export terminal in the United States. The transportation of this coal poses a risk for everyone in its path. The coal would be sourced from mines in Montana and Wyoming, then loaded into uncovered boxcars to be transported by rail to the proposed terminal on the Columbia River. Coal dust from the mile-long coal trains would pollute nearby communities along the rail route. Once the coal arrived at the Longview terminal, it would sit in enormous open-air piles, where winds would blow coal dust into the city of Longview, creating a public health hazard. Coal’s future is bleak—Millennium backer Arch Coal filed for bankruptcy in January, and its dreams of mining in Montana’s Otter Creek are over. But Big Coal still wants to have a dirty coal chute to Asia as its last hope for keeping this unhealthy industry. Fortunately, the movement to stop dirty coal from polluting our towns and rivers is bigger and stronger than ever. Now is the time to raise our voices and lock out dirty coal once and for all. Please stand up to Big Coal today. Let’s make sure this proposal is stopped in its tracks once and for all.

  • West Virginia State Legislators: Pay It Back
The WV state legislature had a job to do in "regular session": pass a budget for FY 2017 and deal with a $270 million projected deficit. But, they spent their time on less important issues and now are in "special session" to try to pass a budget. If they do not pass a budget by June 30, thousands of state employees will be furloughed -- which in WV means "fired." That special session is costing WV taxpayers $35,000 per day, contributing to the deficit rather than solving it. With costs now surpassing $385,000 for their inability to do their job, they should pay the taxpayers back.

  • Make Ban on Cluster Bomb Transfers to Saudi Arabia Permanent
Foreign Policy magazine has reported that the Obama Administration has suspended US transfers of cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia following concerns over civilian harm from their use in Yemen, where a Saudi-led coalition has been conducting a military campaign since March 2015. A senior U.S. official acknowledged reports that the Saudi-led coalition used cluster bombs "in areas in which civilians are alleged to have been present or in the vicinity." [1] Under U.S. law, countries that receive cluster bombs from the U.S. must agree that cluster munitions “will only be used against clearly defined military targets and will not be used where civilians are known to be present or in areas normally inhabited by civilians.” [2] Reps. Conyers (MI), Ellison (MN), Grijalva (AZ), Hank Johnson (GA), McGovern (MA), Lieu (CA), and Barbara Lee (CA) have introduced an amendment [3] to the Department of Defense Appropriations Act (H.R. 5293) which would permanently ban the transfer of cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia. On June 14, House Rules Committee agreed [4] that this amendment will be considered by the full House. Urge Congress to make the President's ban on transferring cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia permanent by signing our petition. • TELL CARRINGTON CAPITAL: DON'T STEAL CARMEN'S HOME!
Wall Street has no morals or limits in their quest for money and power. In fact, one of the original Wall Street hedge fund managers, Bruce Rose, CEO of Carrington Capital/Carrington Mortgage Services, has a hard working family of five in his sights – he wants their home and will stop at nothing to get it. Carmen Garcon is a registered nurse, a member of the Health Professionals & Allied Employees union (HPAE), and a devoted wife and mother of adult children, who live with her at her home in Linden. The Garcon’s purchased their home in June of 2005. Carmen and her husband were not first time homeowners; they previously had a positive experience with home ownership in Hillside. The home in Linden was meant to be a step up towards achieving the American Dream: a place where Carmen and her family could settle and call home for generations to come. However, the current servicer, Carrington Mortgage Services, LTD has turned the Garcon's dream into a living nightmare. Carmen and her husband bought the house for $300,000 and paid a down payment of $60,000. In late 2015, the Garcons successfully applied for a loan modification to ease the monthly cost of owning their home while supporting their young adult children, one who is a college student and the other who is looking for work in a competitive economy. The modification agreement clearly states a monthly sum of $2727.31, which the Garcons have paid faithfully. Carrington, however, continues to claim that the Garcons owe $3,485.00 each month, a crippling cost for any working class family. This attack on the Garcon family is not new to Carrington Mortgage Services. In fact, the company’s CEO and founder, Bruce Rose, has made a fortune from stealing the homes of hard working families all over the country. He has been featured in headlines across the country for his role in profiting from the foreclosure crisis he helped create! And Carmen Garcon and her family are his next target. But together, we can fight Bruce Rose and Carrington Capital. Sign this petition and support Carmen Garcon’s fight to save her home and join the members of NJ Communities United, HPAE and NJ Hedge Clippers! TELL CARRINGTON CAPITAL: DON’T STEAL CARMEN’S HOME!

  • Remove graduation requirements from Washington State testing!
We, the People of Washington State, call on the legislature to change current testing policy to: Remove the graduation requirement from high school standardized tests. Clarify that standardized test scores are not to be used to retain or promote students in elementary or middle schools, leaving those decisions up to school staff and parents. Standardized testing can be a good way to see if students at every school in the state know what they should know, and can do what they should be able to do at appropriate grade levels. But there are many reasons why a student may not do well on a standardized test. These one-size-fits-all assessments of learning should not keep a student who has successfully earned the appropriate credits by passing high school coursework from receiving a high school diploma. The legislature should remove the graduation requirements of state testing and use the money saved to help adequately fund schools, as required by the state Supreme Court's McCleary ruling.
