• Dignity and Health before Profit
My older brother Manny and 30 other seriously injured patients in a sub-acute unit will be suddenly displaced, within unreasonable time, from the CALIFORNIA HOSPITAL MEDICAL CENTER, to cater to the new residents in the new "renovating" area in Downtown Los Angeles. These are the most vulnerable patients in the entire hospital, and their lives depend on professional care. As family members, we do our very best every day to help our loved one heal and recover. There are currently no other reliable sub-acute facilities properly equipped in the city or state to take our loved ones in their current condition. Please help us stop this unit from closing down. Hospitals' profit should not come before patients.

  • Development of LDS Church on Hunters Mill and Crowell
Our community has had several meetings held between the LDS Church and members of the community on the proposed development of the LDS Church located on the corner of Hunters Mill Road and Crowell. Even though the community has outlined conditions to ensure that the Hunters Mill area is preserved under current zoning, our concerns have been ignored.

  • Rename The John Wayne Trail to The Sacajawea Bike Trail
It's time to end our political indifference to the native tribes of Washington State, who were here long before European settlement. Naming a cross state bike trail after a Hollywood actor who made movies that glorified the death and destruction of our indigenous people is a slap in the face to our native tribes. Sacajawea is a famous explorer, and should be recognized for her efforts. Renaming the cross state bike trail after her helps correct a portion of the racial imbalance that has affected generations and generations of our indigenous tribes.

  • Trump is unfit to lead our nation
As a wounded combat veteran, I know firsthand the life-and-death importance of real leadership, which is why I'm compelled to act now. We've all had that moment where it became clear just how unfit Trump is to lead our nation. For myself it was his insensitive and disrespectful comment that he “always wanted” a Purple Heart — the medal you earn for being wounded in combat, and the same medal I earned 12 years ago while carrying out a mission in Iraq. There are so many reasons we can’t trust Trump to lead the world’s most powerful military. On the use of nuclear weapons, Trump has said “we need unpredictability,” and that he sees no problem in letting more countries develop nuclear capabilities. Speaking with a foreign policy expert about the U.S. nuclear arsenal, Trump reportedly asked, “If we have them, why can’t we use them?” Trump won’t commit to protecting our NATO allies, has asked Russia to conduct cyber attacks against the United States, and has even claimed that President Obama is "the founder of ISIS." Trump has consistently dishonored the men and women who have worn our nation's uniform. He has repeatedly attacked the Khans, a Gold Star family who lost their son in Iraq. He mocked Senator John McCain for his experiences as a P.O.W., lied about donations he raised for veterans' charitable organizations, and accused Iraq veterans of stealing reconstruction funds. He even claimed, “I know more about ISIS than the generals do. Believe me.” This combination of hubris and inexperience prompted 50 national security experts who served Republican presidents to write a letter warning that Trump, if elected, "would be the most reckless President in American history.” Finally, I cannot tolerate Trump’s unending bigotry. He has consistently insulted women, Muslims, immigrants, and so many other Americans, many of whom (unlike Trump) have donned a military uniform and served our country. We have one of the most diverse armed forces in the world, and our troops deserve a commander in chief who respects and honors their service. We cannot afford to be silent when our fellow veterans and service members are being slandered and the safety of our nation is at risk. Join me in telling political leaders at every level that they must disavow Trump now, and if they fail to do so, that they will not have our support in November.

  • Tell GOP Senate candidates to disavow Trump and his attacks on women
We've had enough of Donald Trump and his campaign's disgusting verbal and physical violence against women. That's why women and men alike are demanding that our government representatives either reject Trump and his campaign, or be branded a misogynist and be held responsible for the violence against women that his campaign foments. Consider just a few examples: **Stephen Bannon, the new head of Trump's campaign, was accused of domestic violence. **Roger Ailes, the former Fox News chairman ousted last month over charges of sexual harassment, is helping Trump prepare for the debates. **Trump is claiming that Hillary Clinton "lacks the mental and physical stamina" to be president—a not very veiled strategy to suggest that she's weak because she's a woman. **And let’s not forget, Donald Trump calls women "fat pigs" and "disgusting animals,” and famously said, "Women, you have to treat them like sh*t." How, in good conscience, can GOP Senate candidates continue to stand with Donald Trump amid all of this ugliness? How can they reconcile their actions which create the conditions that make his poisonous campaign still viable? The answer is simple: They can't.

  • Stop TISA, the secret privatization pact that poses a threat to democracy and our climate
Fair Trade activists have been excited about our apparent victory in stopping TPP, but there are more battles ahead. Perhaps the most insidious is TISA, the secret privatization pact that poses a threat to democracy. TISA stands for Trade in Service Agreement. and like the TPP, TISA is being negotiated in secret, even though it could have a major impact on countries that sign on. According to Global justice Now, "The Trade in Services Agreement (TISA) is a proposed international trade treaty between 23 Parties, including the European Union and the United States. "Unlike most trade deals, TISA is about services, not goods. This means that it has serious consequences for things that have little to do with trade, affecting areas like labour rights, banking regulation and whether public services like electricity and water are run for the benefit of the people or by profit-making multinational companies. "Five reasons to oppose TISA "It could lock in privatisation of public services. TISA contains mechanisms, such as ‘ratchet’and ‘standstill’ clauses, that make it much harder to reverse privatisations and will allow greater market access for foreign companies. "It will be terrible for the climate. TISA entrenches the idea of technological neutrality on energy policy. This could stop countries favouring renewables over coal, oil and gas. "It will mean more casino capitalism. TISA will undermine efforts to regulate the financial sector and avoid another crisis. "It threatens online privacy. TISA promises to hand much more power to the likes of Google and Microsoft to move personal data across borders to countries with lax data protection laws. "It will be especially damaging to countries in the global south. TISA includes countries likePakistan that could be hindered in developing public services. It also poses a threat to countries outside TISA, because, once approved, rich countries will seek to impose TISA-style measures globally through the WTO." • Provide Pennsylvanians Access to Treatment for Chronic Lyme Disease
In 2015, there were 10,817 new cases of confirmed Lyme Disease reported in Pennsylvania, ranking Pennsylvania the highest in the nation in confirmed cases for the last five years. In 2015, the Department of Environmental Protection published a study that confirmed a high risk of Lyme disease in every county of the Commonwealth. Up to 40% of Lyme Disease patients may go on to suffer from a complex, chronic/persistent disease. Yet they are being denied access to, and insurance coverage for, diagnostics and treatments, leaving thousands of Pennsylvanians with no choice but to bear the financial burden of treatment out-of-pocket. Many Pennsylvanians are left suffering, untreated, and/or in financial ruin. We are facing a serious epidemic and need to provide Pennsylvanians access to diagnostics and treatment of complex/chronic Lyme Disease.

  • Donald Trump Is Not Who We Are
Donald Trump is trying to erase months of racist rhetoric, by changing his stance on immigration. It’s more important than ever that we stand together against the racial, religious and other intolerance that Donald Trump’s policies and rhetoric promotes. It is putting Latinos, Muslim-Americans, those with disabilities, and so many others directly at risk. If we speak with one voice now, we can stand up for those in our community most at risk from Trump’s rhetoric and policies, and defeat his brand of hate once and for all. Join us in saying: Donald Trump is Not Who We Are.
