• It's time: Introduce Boundary Waters Wilderness protection bill in the U.S. Senate
The Boundary Waters Wilderness in northeastern Minnesota is America's most-visited Wilderness and a wildland refuge critical to people and the planet. Anishinaabe people (also known in this region as Chippewa or Ojibwe) have lived in the area for countless generations and have a deep relationship to these lands and waters. Indigenous people continue to harvest wild rice in the Boundary Waters region and maintain treaty rights to hunt, fish and gather. As sovereign nations, tribes play a central role in protecting the Boundary Waters and have called for its protection. This wild and beautiful place is threatened by proposed sulfide-ore copper mining, but we can protect this place if enough people take action. Visit www.SavetheBoundaryWaters.org to learn more.

  • Michigan wants the Right to choose!
When Roe was overturned by the Supreme Court earlier this year, 50 years of constitutional, guaranteed protection for abortion care went out the window. This decision has made it even more clear that we need to do everything in our power to codify abortion into law at the state and local level. The first step is to elect unashamed, Democratic and Progressive candidates who will create or support legislation to ensure abortion rights are protected.

  • RAE 4 - We need answers! Prioritize Latinx behavioral health!
So, what’s the problem?  Though 43.2% of Pueblo’s residents are Hispanic or Latino and 17.8% are living in poverty, there are little to no affordable and accessible treatment services in Spanish without Servicios  48% of avoidable costs in RAE come from substance misuse  RAE 4 got a D grade in its outpatient treatment planning score per a recent audit  Community waits months to be seen. Servicios see everyone in 14 days or less.  Latinos are the second highest utilizers of illegal substances in Colorado. In some neighborhoods, drugs are easier to find than healthy meals.  Latino Coloradoans were the second highest utilizers of mental health services in the State representing 25.8% of all those seeking treatment Root causes to these health inequities include lack of access to bilingual therapists; strong corporate marketing to target poor and BIPOC communities; fear of institutions; lack of resources for immigrant/migrant and refugee communities; lack of transportation; language barriers; retention challenges due to experiencing homelessness; barriers to treatment specific to COVID-19; and stigma. What happens now: Servicios is funded to continue services in Pueblo until 4/30/2023. Health Colorado Inc went from funding us with almost $.5M in Cycle 1 to $0 in Cycle 2. Seeing the massive need for the very services that we expertly provide, we want to know how HCI intends to fill this critical gap in services, and in a culturally and linguistically responsive manner? What can you do: Speak up. La raza! Méjicano! Españo! Latino! Chicano! Or whatever we call ourselves, WE MATTER! When it comes to caring for community, money talks. When resources are taken away, it sends a clear message that our needs and our people just don’t matter and are not valued. Call Christina Brown, the Director of Community Engagement and Transformation at Health Colorado Inc and share your thoughts: (719) 621-8785. Our loved ones are dying and we cannot “wait on time” and expect things to get better by themselves.

  • Tell Defense Sec. Austin: No Racist Plaques at West Point!
A hate group like the KKK should have no place of recognition on any college campus, let alone one where soldiers are trained to kill. But for decades, “cadets” at West Point have walked past a panel of three plaques that includes an image of a hooded figure and the words “Ku Klux Klan”. Ultimately, the Secretary of Defense will have the final say, and that’s why we’re going straight to the top! What happens next is crucial — Sec. Austin has heard from Congress, he’s heard from racial justice leaders, and now he needs to hear from grassroots activists just like you.

  • Tell Governor Ducey: Stop the abortion ban
We believe that each of us should have the freedom to decide how and when we start or grow a family, free from political interference or punishment. The statute, A.R.S. § 13-3603, imposes a mandatory two-to-five year prison sentence for providing abortion care. The law will have a devastating impact on Arizona families and our communities. No one should be forced by the state to carry a pregnancy against their will and face the life-altering consequences of being denied essential health care. We urge you to call a special session immediately, without hesitation, for the purposes of repealing A.R.S. § 13-3603. Any hesitation on the part of your office to call a special session to repeal this outdated abortion ban demonstrates a blatant disregard for the health, wellbeing, and liberty of people who can become pregnant and their families. Thank you, and we look forward to you doing the right thing during this difficult time. • Protect Trans Students in Virginia!
The GOP will stop at nothing to actively terrorize marginalized communities like the queer community and queer students. It is no mystery that the GOP will continue these vitriolic and baseless attacks against our most vulnerable communities; they have proven this to us throughout their history and they are still openly committed to that legacy. We are currently seeing the direct results of what can happen with low voter turnout. The GOP will not govern effectively, they will prioritize violent roll backs of any progress that we have made thus far to protect marginalized communities and they will build their platforms around doing so. If this makes you angry, turn your anger to action. A few districts have already spoken out against the ruling, but we need more. We need widespread outrage at this new proposed legislation to prevent it from going through. We need to take our anger, our fear, our passion and our love for one another and show the GOP that Virginia is for lovers, and beyond Virginia, our community will not be intimidated, oppressed or legislated out of the society we all live in. In a Youngkin state, we have to fight for one another because he has made it clear that he will not fight for the rights of all Virginians– only those that he and his party deem deserving of basic liberties and fundamental human rights. There is a 30 day comment period for public comments on this pivotal issue that begins on September 26 and ends on October 26. You don’t need to be from Virginia to speak out and support trans lives. You can submit public comments here: https://townhall.virginia.gov/L/Comments.cfm?GdocForumID=1953

  • Cancel the LUMA contract that has left Puerto Ricans without power over and over again!
Before Hurricane Fiona hit, Puerto Ricans were being subjected to nearly daily power outages that were burning out generators, leaving hospital patients at risk, and forcing children to do their homework under flashlights. For this state of misery under the LUMA Energy consortium, households and businesses were issued SEVEN rate hikes—in one year alone. This abuse is unconscionable. After more than 100 organizations sent letters to the Commonwealth and Federal governments, and to Congress, and after attempts by legislators in the Island to withhold funding from LUMA Energy were blocked by a Congressionally-imposed fiscal control board, Puerto Ricans en masse took to the streets. Their demand that went unheeded: Cancel the LUMA contract. Gov. Pedro Pierluisi, we echo the call of the people being harmed by this bad contract and incompetent service provider. Do right by the people by canceling this contract before Nov. 30th. Otherwise LUMA will be locked in for 15 years. In fact, all you have to do is not sign any renewal contract. To President Biden and Congress, we say Puerto Rico MUST have a sustainable and clean, renewable energy grid that is reliable, hurricane or not. The federal government should take immediate steps so that what should have been done after Hurricane Maria is accomplished. Federal reconstruction funding to rebuild the electricity grid should be required to be used for only sustainable and clean, renewable energy projects, not dirty, polluting fossil fuels. FEMA should reprogram the tens of billions already available in disaster funding to municipalities and NGOs. As energy experts advise, Congress should move to cancel all or a substantial portion of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority’s debt. FEMA officials recently testified that out of $13 billion available in US grid reconstruction funds, only $40 million had been disbursed, FIVE years after Hurricane Maria. Enough is enough! Please join the demands of the people of Puerto Rico: #CancelLUMA, #CleanGrid4PR #CommunityDrivenRecovery

  • Demand 42 refineries convert the deadly chemicals, HF and MHF, to a safer alternative.
Hydrofluoric acid is one of the most dangerous chemicals used by industry and ranks as one of the most toxic chemicals that might likely be targeted for intentional release by terrorists using explosives. 19,000,000 people live within the lethal-risk area of the 42 refineries still using and transporting HF. These refineries are located throughout the United States. HF is extremely harmful through any route of exposure. A large release of HF would kill thousands, impact hospitals and threaten national security. Accidents and deaths have occurred from contact with HF. Victims have died or have damaged organs by just a splash of HF. Cities have been evacuated because of HF leaks. HF is shipped in trucks, trains and ships. A regulation requiring refineries to convert from HF to one of the much safer, modern alternatives would eliminate the hazards posed by the threat of an accident within the refinery and daily highway transport of massive amounts of HF to refineries. We are all affected by the refineries and the transportation of HF. Let's change this and require the remaining 42 refineries to convert to these safer alternatives.
