• Keep your promise. Stop funding insurrectionists like Ron Johnson!
The world watched in horror as white supremacist Trump supporters violently attacked the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of our free and fair election. In the aftermath, General Motors was part of a wave of companies who suspended donations to election objectors, pledging to pause their political contributions and reevaluate their standards. But it turns out that GM has donated tens of thousands of dollars to re-elect lawmakers who voted to overturn the election, making them one of the top corporate donors to insurrectionists. Senator Ron Johnson is among them. Johnson is trying to rewrite history by lying and saying that January 6 was “by and large a peaceful protest.” It was not. Johnson has even gone so far as to vote to object to the election results, to acquit Donald Trump for inciting the insurrection, and to block a bipartisan commission to investigate the attack. General Motors paused their political donations to insurrectionists and then started up again when they thought no one was watching. Nothing has changed. Ron Johnson has still enabled attacks on our democracy and values corporate profits over his constituents. And he is one of the leading apologists in Congress trying to rewrite the history of the fatal insurrection of January 6. None of the lawmakers who voted to overthrow the American people's election should receive a single dollar more in donations. And Ron Johnson is particularly reprehensible. Throughout history, we've consistently seen white supremacy and right-wing groups go unchecked for the violence and terror they cause. We saw Donald Trump get both enabled and supported by Republicans for four years as he attacked our democracy over and over. Then, after inciting the insurrection, the Republican Party did nothing to hold Trump accountable. And that’s not all: Senate Republicans used the Jim Crow filibuster, a tool invented by pro-slavery senators before the Civil War that prevented the passage of over 200 anti-lynching bills over the years, to block a bipartisan commission that would have investigated this attack on our democracy. This is what General Motors’ donations are enabling. It’s unacceptable for them to backpedal on their promise to stop funding insurrectionists. Republicans like Ron Johnson consistently got in the way of providing much-needed relief to hurting Americans but magically found funds for the wealthy and corporations by passing a massive tax cut. They called the virus a hoax while hundreds of thousands of people died across the country. They packed the courts. They pushed through a Supreme Court justice in eight days, seven days before a presidential election. They incited an insurrection led by white nationalists. Johnson is more interested in spreading lies and conspiracy theories than in governing for the American people. He is one of the richest members of Congress who has consistently turned his back on his constituents when they needed him most, while looking out only for himself, special interests, and his bank account. After a briefing on the COVID-19 in January 2020, before many of us knew of the possibility of a pandemic, Johnson sold millions of dollars in stock to line his own pockets. He was the deciding vote on legislation that gave the ultra-rich and corporations a $1.7 trillion tax cut. Then, while hundreds of thousands of Americans died from COVID-19, millions were going hungry, and millions were unemployed and living paycheck to paycheck, he voted against COVID-19 relief and direct payment relief that would actually help people … twice. Enough is enough. The GOP Treason Caucus objected to the election results, refused to hold Trump accountable for inciting a deadly insurrection, helped him evade consequences, and blocked an investigation on the attack. General Motors, stop funding white supremacy, insurrection, misinformation, conspiracy theories, violence, and attacks on our democracy!

  • Jamaica Qns residents fight CM Miller for clean environment & NO waste increase. Kill Int 2349-A
Our fight for a clean environment and clean air, must be heard. Pollutants from the local waste transfer stations on Douglas Ave. have caused asthma, cancer, and other health ailments in our community, and enough is enough. We have been neglected too many years by our elected officials in exchange for them getting funding from these waste stations in Jamaica, Queens. Waste stations “fund our NYC parks” and “help the community” while they get passes to pollute our community. We must fight against this environmental racism.

  • CONGRESS: We Need A Path To Citizenship NOW!
Recently, a federal judge in Southern Texas barred the government from accepting new DACA applicants, leaving tens of thousands of potential DACA recipients without work authorization or protection from deportation. In addition, this ruling ordered the DACA program to be partially ended, an immigration program that shields nearly 700,000 immigrants brought to the US as children from deportation. Right now, hundreds of thousands of lives are at risk and now first-time DACA applicants are losing their deportation protections along with their ability to work and drive legally in the United States. For now, current DACA recipients are allowed to apply for renewals. Still, this decision makes one thing absolutely clear: only a permanent legislative solution passed by Congress will eliminate the fear and uncertainty that Dreamers face yet again. Congress must take immediate action and includes a path to citizenship for Dreamers, TPS-holders, and essential workers in the upcoming infrastructure and Senate resolution budget package. Poll after poll has shown that the American public on both sides of the aisle supports a path to citizenship for immigrants and want Democrats to use every political and legislative tool available to them to deliver concrete results this year. Please sign this petition to call on President Biden and Congressional Democrats to deliver on a path to citizenship for millions of Dreamers, TPS-holders, essential workers and families who call America home and live in constant fear of being broken apart.

  • Expand Medicare Now!
I am burdened by my health care costs. I am unable to afford basics, and I'm now facing expensive repairs to my home. As a senior, I feel forgotten by our current system. I feel like we are being punished for living because it is so difficult to live as a senior. I am a senior citizen in Rome, Georgia, living on a fixed income. Both my husband and I are on Medicare as well as a supplemental plan that we pay for monthly. Still, we have an out-of-pocket deductible we must meet before any of our insurance kicks in, which this year took three long months. Our prescriptions are a huge burden for us also. We are at the point where we are having to make either/or decisions with everyday items just to get by and afford our healthcare. I am urging congress to include expanded Medicare coverage and increase prescription access as part of the American Families Plan. Right now, Congress is debating if they should expand Medicare in the American Families Plan. Specifically, Congress must strengthen Medicare to include hearing, dental, and vision benefits, as well as an out-of-pocket cap; expand Medicare by lowering the eligibility age from 65 to as low as possible; and enable Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices for everyone. These would not only benefit me, but nearly 38 million people would gain vision, dental, and hearing coverage, and more than 2 million uninsured would get access to quality, affordable health care. We have to use this chance to pass bold legislation while we have the majority. The clock is ticking! Please join me in urging Congress to do the right thing and expand Medicare coverage through reconciliation.

  • President Biden: Lead the way for voting rights
Earlier this summer, President Biden told a crowd in Oklahoma that he was going to “fight like heck” to ensure that Congress protects our voting rights and democracy. But weeks later, he’s still leaving multiple options on the table -- letting Mitch McConnell’s filibuster get in the way of this once-in-a-generation legislation. In that time, several states have moved new laws that would make it harder for voters, especially Black and Brown voters, to cast their ballot. And if we don’t act soon, anti-democracy forces -- like Big Money special interests and gerrymandering politicians -- will have free reign to manipulate the 2022 elections to their advantage. Our democracy can’t wait -- and we can’t risk our future in futile hopes that Mitch McConnell will come to the negotiating table. We urgently need President Biden to keep his promise by doing everything in his power to get the Freedom to Vote Act over the finish line. The For the People Act includes proven, comprehensive provisions that would protect the freedom to vote, end partisan gerrymandering, limit Big Money’s stranglehold on our democracy, hold elected officials to a higher ethical standard, and so much more. Restoring our democracy is far too important a job to let Mitch McConnell veto it with a Senate minority. McConnell and Senate Republicans already filibustered debate on the For the People Act -- and we can’t let them do it again on this new bill. If we want to see this historic bill passed this summer, Biden needs to get bold -- and fast. He must publicly urge the Senate to abolish the filibuster, wield the power of the bully pulpit, and appeal directly to senators like Joe Manchin, who we’ll need to break McConnell’s stranglehold on the Senate. If Biden doesn’t take bold action right now, he’ll be handing control of many of his top priorities and his legacy over to Mitch McConnell. Add your name and urge President Biden to do whatever it takes to pass the Freedom to Vote Act.

  • Add Nowruz to MSU work exemption/time off
Over two hundred Iranian students and professors living and working at MSU are at the forefront of their research, contributing to science and the community through scholarship, activities, and crafting a better future. Given this number of Iranian students and scholars at Michigan State University, it is only fair that the university allows them to have the most important day in their culture recognized in the MSU community. Making Nowruz as an observing day/providing exemptions for two days of Nowruz celebration would both help recognize and embrace the importance of the Iranian community to MSU and serve as an example of inclusion by an institution that holds equity and diversity as its core value.

  • End cash bail in LA County!
As you read this, millions of people across the country are being held in jail even though they haven’t been convicted with any crime. In the vast majority of states and counties, if people charged with a crime can’t afford to pay their bail, they’re forced to sit in jail until their trial date, which can take weeks, months, or sometimes even years. Pretrial detention often leads to all sorts of challenges for a jailed person, including job loss, housing loss, and, if they are a caretaker, complications with child or eldercare. And above all, cash bail leads to unequal treatment under the law, and this is a violation of our Constitution. Regardless of a person’s ability to post bail, they should be granted the same rights and presumption of innocence.

  • Restore Press Freedom!
Today the entire mainstream media is owned by only FIVE corporations, all of which are run by people who are invested in weapons and war. The result is a media that always starts with a pro-interventionist position and is staffed by former intelligence officials and generals that protect the government narrative instead of the truth. Additionally, it is extremely rare for mainstream media outlets to have on opposing viewpoints, especially from the left, to have debates and discussions. We need a return to fairness, truth and civil debate.

  • Tax Jeff Bezos, billionaires, and corporations so they pay their fair share!
This is Ben and Jerry. Yup. Ol Ben and Ol Jerry. The ice cream guys. The people, not the corporation. And here's what's on our mind: Jeff Bezos and taxes. You see, Jeff Bezos blasted himself into space. Elon Musk is on deck. And if this billionaire space race reminds us of one thing, it's this: Billionaires like Bezos and Musk just aren't paying their fair share of taxes under today's tax code. Despite being among the world's richest billionaires, Bezos and Musk pay a tax rate lower than many of us. Massive corporations like Amazon regularly avoid paying federal taxes. Even guys like us who got rich selling ice cream should be paying more (we're not "blast ourselves into space" ultra-wealthy, but we get by. Republicans and Donald Trump passed a tax scheme to benefit the ultra-wealthy and corporations—while shifting the burden onto the rest of us and underfunding critical infrastructure and our social safety net. We have the chance to change this right now. The Senate and House could pass tax laws that force the ultra-wealthy and corporations to pay their fair share. This would reduce the burden on the working class, while also investing in infrastructure, Social Security, health care, education, combating climate change, and so much more. Tell Congress: Tax Jeff Bezos so he and other billionaires, the ultra-wealthy, and corporations pay their fair share.
