Currently The United States is expected to receive 1,400 to 2,000 Syrian refugees for the year 2015, and 5,000 to 8,000 in 2016. There are over 4 million refugees that have fled Syria and this number grows everyday. While neighboring countries in the Middle East and The EU have reluctantly taken in refugees, they often find themselves in either inhumane conditions or stuck in the bureaucratic web of Europe's immigration debate . No one is better equipped to assist the Syrian people more than The United States of America. Our nation has a singular tradition of support and opportunity for all those seeking a better life, be it temporary or permanent. We have the heart, and we have the resources. Our nation's citizens are good people and will help in every way we can. Our country has proven it's heart time and time again, and now at this most crucial moment we should answer the call once more. Thank you.

This is a test.

As a transplanted Marylander (since 1989), I only recently became aware of the offensive lyrics to our State Song when legislators moved to take the Confederate flag off of state-issued license plates. I was appalled by the pro-Confederacy lyrics, which should have no place in our state's officialdom. They are rarely sung and hardly anyone knows of them, but still they are on record for our state, and presumably sung sometimes and/or studied by school kids. It's time to let go of this anomaly - this is divisive and hurtful to so many- and find a song to represent and unite all Marylanders - a song we can all be proud to sing!

I know many women who have been helped by Planned Parenthood. I believe if it weren't for Planned Parenthood many women would not seek the medical attention they need because they simply couldn't afford it.

In view of the Syrian refugee crisis and the reluctance of many countries to accept or help the refugees, the United States should step in and provide more assistance. First of all, the US should accept more refugees into our country under emergency basis. Secondly, the US should provide more funding, medical assistance, food, and other essentials. Finally, the US government should investigate better immigration policies and procedures, in harmony with other countries, to handle these types of crises!

This is a personal appeal to the conscience of our community to put yourselves in the place of the thousands of men, women, even children in our community who every night go to sleep, unlike you or me, without a place to call their own, and therefore are forced to break the law in order to sleep.

Refusing to do her job as County Clerk - and taking such a strong anti-LGBT position are not what the Democratic Party is about. It is time for the party and party leaders to do the right thing and distance themselves publicly from this intolerable behavior from a fellow Democrat.

Last year, Vermont passed a law requiring most genetically engineered foods to be labeled…and soon, industry attacked. Earthjustice has now gone to court to defend Vermont’s law and stand up to these attacks. But now an extremist segment of the food industry is pushing to prohibit GMO labeling anywhere in the country. You have a right to know what’s in the food you eat. Take action now to defend that right. The House has already passed a bill prohibiting any and all state and local GMO labeling requirements. We need more food transparency, not less! Tell your senator you oppose this legislation now! The bill goes far beyond labeling—it would preclude not only labeling, but also all state and local regulation of GMOs. We’re defending communities in Hawai‘i that have chosen to restrict the growing of GMO crops to protect conventional and organic farmers from contamination and the public from associated pesticide use. In fact, Earthjustice has litigated for years to protect people and the environment from dangers associated with genetically modified food crops. More than 99% of GMO crops are created to withstand toxic chemical applications or produce their own pesticides, leading to greater pesticide use. Increased use of pesticides and the emergence of pesticide-resistant weeds are just two of the problems GMO crops create, not to mention possible long-term health effects and risks to biodiversity. GMO crops also reduce consumers’ ability to avoid GMO-contaminated food and farmers’ ability to protect their non-GMO fields from contamination. More than 60 countries already require GMO labeling. Today, we’re asking you to stand up for food transparency in the United States!

Today, Chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte announced that his House Judiciary Committee would hold a hearing to investigate alleged sales of fetal tissue Planned Parenthood. But Goodlatte should be focused on a much more pressing concern: our right to vote is under attack. Ever since the Supreme Court gutted key Voting Rights Act protections in 2013, states have passed new voting restrictions and rolled back proven bipartisan reforms. If Goodlatte has time to crusade against Planned Parenthood, there's no excuse for letting our most fundamental democratic right go undefended. Demand that Rep. Goodlatte use his power as Judiciary Committee chairman to stop attacks on our right to vote.
