Mike Huckabee made light of the Syrian Refugee Crisis at a conference in St. Louis, where he said, “Are they really escaping tyranny, are they escaping poverty, or are they really just coming because we’ve got cable TV? I don't mean to be trite." His comments are offensive and do not accurately represent the extreme violence that the Syrian refugees are fleeing and the struggle they face trying to leave Syria and find safety. The senior class should be able to wear tank tops under their togas rather than t-shirts during spirit week. As stated in the handbook, "clothing with spaghetti straps, or which is strapless, backless, low-cut, see-through, or which reveals the midriff or undergarments should not be worn in school." Wearing a one-inch tank top does not break the dress code, so wearing it during Spirit Week should not change these rules.

We the people should have the right to hold law enforcement officials accountable or commendable while they're performing their duties on our behalf. Audio and video recording them performing their duties at a safe distance should not be a crime.

Reasons why you should care about GRU’s name change: 1) Students, the ones funding and getting a degree from the institution, had no say in the matter 2) The purpose behind GRU’s name was to signify the state’s only public professional health schools, and their mission is to serve the state as a whole, hence the multiple rural campuses. Neither this mission nor the composition of students in its programs are primarily tied to Augusta, including GRHealth clinics that reside outside of the city. 3) Dr. Azziz MD, the president who changed the name to GRU, was replaced by Dr. Keel PhD this July, who intended to change the name back to his alma mater Augusta College, an obvious conflict of interest regardless of publicized intentions. 4) The governor won’t comment on the decision, saying it was made by the board of regents 5) Removing the state’s name further removes national recognition, starts rapport over, and shows our institution lacks any firm foundation. 6) Recommending professors will now be Augusta University faculty which again holds no current respect. 7) Changing the signs alone previously cost $3.8m. Further spending for name changes reflects how incapable the institution is at budgeting its allocated funds. Will donors continue to donate when they see that their money keeps going towards changing their alma mater? Think about the cost to change signs, uniforms/scrubs, GRU hospital name changing and anything in them labeled GRU, school merchandise, and cyberspace including emails and lecture videos 8) There’s already movement among the Augusta community to change the name again in the future, to revert it to the original Augusta State University. 9) Apathetic MCG students should note that colleges are supposed to revel in their University, not turn the other cheek. Think about how our GRU nursing, dental, and PhD colleagues are affected. 10) We currently park behind a gas station.

Every time you connect to the internet, your communications, your information, and your way of life are being monitored and scrutinized by the government. XKEYSCORE allows the NSA to accomplish this as the program sweeps up internet traffic from areas of communication such as email, pictures, documents, social media, webcam photos, chats, skype sessions, and even logged keystrokes.(1) The program resembles Google as it categorizes and tags the collected and stored information and makes the information searchable for NSA analysts.(2) For example, an analyst can type your username from Facebook into XKEYSCORE and they would be delivered all of your information, including your private messages, posts, and chats over a specified time period.(3) The program has been used to spy on leaders such as United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, a clear non-threat to the United States.(4) XKEYSCORE destroys the fundamental principles of civil liberties that we are undeniably born with, works toward a system of governance where stifling dissent is the norm, and it only ramps up the American surveillance state, further turning it into a grotesque monster built on intimidation and fear. It is our duty as citizens of the United States to express our inherent rights and call for the end of this tyrannical program. If our children are going to achieve their dreams, they need great teachers. Unfortunately, here in Central Florida, our public school teachers are among the lowest-paid in the country. People don’t get into teaching for the pay, but we need to pay our teachers a wage that reflects the value of their work to our families. We want to attract top teaching talent, and encourage good teachers to stick with it. We owe it to Florida’s children, and the long-term health of our economy and our state depend on it! That’s why I'm introducing legislation to establish a minimum starting salary for Florida’s teachers of $50,000 per year. Our proposal is completely paid-for, and won't cause a dime of tax increases.
