The failure of the US to take a significant number of refugees now evokes the story of the St. Louis, a ship carrying Jewish refugees to the US that President Franklin D. Roosevelt denied entry, sending most of its passengers to their death. As a Jewish American in 2015, I will not stand for repeating the same mistake.

As a former Foreign Service Officer I know that the greatest obstacle is the year long delay in getting security clearances--almost impossible with a war going on. Let's speed up the process by giving US consular officials In Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq authority to admit those with no obvious risk.

The effort that these pathetic people put into this is very disappointing. At a rate of $175 a year; I could be paying bills. But thousands of parents are lured into this scam, as it is nothing more than a tragic mess.
