• Pardon Snowden
We have all been affected by the courage of a young man who decided what was the right thing to do. The information he gave us exposed the insideous invasion of our privacy. We should celebrate Edward Snowden and be proud that he is one of us.

YES, I AM VERY PERSONALLY AFFECTED BY THIS!! THE HOMELESS HAVE RIGHTS!! FIRST AND FOREMOST- HOUSING!!!! I lost my home by no fault of my own! I was NOT prepared for it. All the AGENCIES that I turned to for help said that I had to have children under the age of 18 or they have no funds, vouchers, no room, etc...It's been 11 weeks now. My son, daughter and myself living OUTSIDE, in our car. OUTSIDE LIKE UNWANTED DOGS!!! Even though I had a small income, it was not even enough to rent a 1 bedroom ANYTHING! We were disconnected from any of our so-called friends. We have no family to turn to. We are not drug addicts or drunks. We have no criminal charges or records. NOW MY CAR NO LONGER RUNS AND WE'RE STUCK UNDER A BRIDGE!! People everywhere are so detached and busy. They just look the other way. 47% of the State of Georgia has no HEALTH CARE. • Why does Costco have bilingual signs in Ottawa (and at many US locations) but NOT in areas of Mon...
Quebec law allows bilingual signs in stores. Costco is spitting in the faces of their English members for absolutely no reason whatsoever. It is time for Costco to show some respect for their English speaking members in Montreal! https://anglosigns.wordpress.com/2013/07/13/is-something-rotten-at-costco/

  • New Fairfield needs Fair Garbage Collection Rates
The cost of residential trash removal varies from household to household, as do the services offered. A recent poll showed NF citizens paying anywhere from $27 to $49 per month for similar services. Many small providers are merging with larger providers, who are then raising rates. The cost savings with a municipal contract with a private provider is significant. For example, the Town of Ellington (pop 15,000), CT contracts with one provider that costs each participating household $125 per year, which comes to $10.42 per month. For $10.42 a month, house holds receive a 96 gallon rolling cart and recycle bin, weekly trash pick up, and bulky item removal up to 4 times per year. Citizens may opt out and use the transfer station. Consolidating services will save money for everyone.

  • Stop politicians from becoming lobbyists
Many politicians and their staffers in Missouri use their positions as starting points to become high-paid lobbyists. The rules in Missouri on how long a person has to serve in public office or work for a politician in office as well as gifts and donations to politicians are the most lenient in the US. One politician didn't even serve his full term. He quit in midterm to become a lobbyist. There should be a minimum of 3 years waiting period with 5 being even better. Our state and country are being sold out due to greed. We need to take it back and stop the hijacking of our country.

  • Don't Prevent Local Progress
House Bill 4052 would take power away from communities in order to protect corporate profits. Special interests shouldn’t be allowed to overturn decisions they don’t like made by local governments, but now they’re trying to prevent local laws that reflect our values, like making our workplaces healthier and requiring community benefit agreements when taxpayer resources are used in development projects. Protect local progress today.

  • Tell state officials: Don't limit solar in Pennsylvania!
Solar energy is one of the best bets for getting off of coal and onto the path to renewable energy. But the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission wants to limit the financial credit for the solar energy that Pennsylvanians generate on their own. • Pass the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA)
"Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex." The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution that would expressly prohibit discrimination against girls and women on the basis of sex. The Constitution does not guarantee equal rights for women. As former Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has stated: “Certainly the Constitution does not require discrimination on the basis of sex. The only issue is whether it prohibits it. It doesn’t.”[1] The ERA is an important statement of principle. The Constitution embodies the nation's core values. Equality between women and men is a fundamental human right that should be guaranteed in the Constitution. Sex discrimination continues to limit equal opportunity and justice for women. Economic inequality, pregnancy discrimination, violence against women, and other forms of discrimination against women and girls are pervasive and leave women without effective legal recourse. State laws are not uniform and federal laws are not comprehensive. Moreover, these laws can be, and in some cases have been, rolled back anytime. The Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution does not protect women from sex discrimination. The Fourteenth Amendment provides equal protection of the law, but it has been interpreted to require state action and the intent to discriminate. Much discrimination occurs through private action and is not intentional, making intent hard to prove. The Supreme Court reviews sex discrimination claims using intermediate rather than strict scrutiny, a lower standard of review than for racial and religious discrimination claims. Source: 1.
