Nevada: Don't build another gas chamber! The death penalty doesn't deter crime. Many innocent people are exonerated from death row due to "mistakes" made in their cases, or by corrupt investigators. I do not want to be responsible personally for an innocent person being put to death, and I do not want my tax dollars spent on a new gas chamber in Las Vegas. More background is here: http://lasvegassun.com/news/2015/may/18/lawmakers-split-funding-new-execution-chamber-ely/50 of 100 SignaturesCreated by carrie tyler

Enact a Law in Michigan to Allow Online Voter RegistrationI'm starting this petition because men and women have fought and died for our right vote. That right is sacrosanct and cannot be used as a political football to give one political party an advantage over an other by suppressing the right to vote.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Michael McCarthy

Stop the Loophole for Arch CoalThis loophole will allow Arch Coal, one of the largest US coal companies, to bulldoze thousands of acres of roadless forest in Colorado in order to mine up to 350 million tons of coal. These roadless areas are crucial wildlife habitat and among some of the most beautiful and preserved wilderness areas in the state. Opening this area to mining would unlock more than half a billion tons of carbon pollution. All this so one coal company can reap in the rewards. It is an unfair trade-off and needs to be stopped.565 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Rasmussen

Illinois: Don’t Cut Funding for AmtrakGovernor Rauner’s proposed budget for the year beginning July 1 slashes the Amtrak line item from $42 million to $26 million a year, a 40% cut. [1] This would likely mean service reductions on three downstate Amtrak routes, including the Illini and Saluki trains that serve Champaign-Urbana and Carbondale, two cities with huge college student populations from the Chicago area, many of whom use Amtrak service. These trains are often at capacity. Some Democratic lawmakers have suggested avoiding the cuts by continuing to use the state road fund to pay for Amtrak services, rather than general revenue. Amtrak keeps autos off the roads, reducing wear and tear on the roads and saving lives. Amtrak protects the environment, by using less fossil fuels. And Amtrak saves time, because unlike driving, you can safely do other things while you ride the train. Urge Governor Rauner and your state legislators to protect full funding for Amtrak by signing our petition. Elected officials should make the median wage of the districts they represent. It has come to my attention and the attention of the people of the United States that our elected officials are out of touch with what their constituents need and want. If a person running for office wants to truly better his or her community, they have to somewhat feel the struggle of what their community is going through. Too often, money in politics changes a once-good candidate into someone peddling issues that no longer affect the people he or she will be representing. If an elected official wants his district or constituents to progress, they have to work hard for that to happen. The only way we can see fit that that works is if the elected officials are tied to their constituents. They choose to represent the people so let them make the median average wage of the people they represent. Maybe then we'll see some real change in America.40 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Tony Jefferson

Google Maps directs users searching for "nigga house" to the WHITE HOUSESuch egregious programming is not only inflammatory, it is unconscionably unpatriotic, and wholly un-American! Likewise, it constitutes a gross violation of the public trust. Google Inc. has a duty of care not to mislead the public, nor to allow others to do so under its trademark identity. Likewise, Google Inc. holds a fiduciary duty to its shareholders not to sanction product misuse in a way which could knowingly and directly decrement shareholder value — including brand alignment with a nationally recognized racial pejorative form of the N-word. Please read a recent Washington Post article for details: (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-switch/wp/2015/05/19/if-you-search-google-maps-for-the-n-word-it-gives-you-the-white-house/?postshare=6821432083232816) This situation must be corrected immediately, and with all deliberate dispatch due The President of The United States.98 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Eric Freeman

Criminal justice reformI have seen way too many students go through the education system and not be properly prepared to get a sustainable job. We worry too much about tests and not about job skills for the real world. Education funding should be increased if we want a strong future for Michigan. We need fewer tax breaks for the extreme rich. I have seen important programs such as music, physical fitness, and art reduced or cut in school systems, although it has been proven that classes like these enhance education in many ways. Because of budget cuts, it is impossible for schools to offer these classes full time. We take so many assessment tests that the students lose a good month of learning to test preparation. We need to incorporate more life skill classes such as budgeting, sewing, and cooking so that students who leave high school know how to take care of themselves. We also need to give workers pay that can sustain them, and less money to CEO's. Even though people on the bottom of the ladder have fewer skills, without them, the ladder falls down as will our economy eventually. I challenge any politician to live like a single mother working at a retail job to really know what it is like.7 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Marla Hoffmann

Crab fish reform actI see Deadliest Catch and yet I am disgusted. One boat captain attacks the cameraman from the Discovery Channel. Another one is a heroin addict and yet is not arrested or even forced to pay a fee to the harbor master. And he is still on TV. He should be in a jail cell and made an example of. The captain of the wizard should be arrested and have to pay a fee for his actions and for allowing his crew to push around their new crew member fighting hazing verbal taunting and treating them like dirt. How many former greenhorns have ended up in jail or homeless because of the way they were treated. Being treated like dirt for not being able to do a job they never trained for. Meanwhile none of these guys are made to go to school or undergo proper training for a job that can get them killed. Meanwhile half of these guys have serious health problems they should forced to quit if there health fails for good no coming back. There are a lot of problems in the crab fishing industry that have gone unchecked. These guys are paid to risk their health, do drugs, pick fights, and act like jerks and the public rewards them for it. The industry needs to change and these captains are too comfortable. The reform will force these guys to train new captains prepared for the future or make a small fortune for two seasons and invest in a new business. The mind set should be what am I gonna do with the money made here. So they can get out of the way for the new guys hungry for their shot. If you have back problems then get off the boat and stay off the boat. The captain of Cornelia marie had a stroke on his boat. What in the world. Enough is enough. Elliot should be in jail right now. For putting other lives at risk. Edgar Hansen should not be on the boat he should daving up and prepairing to leave his health has failed. This is a joke and it has to stop.4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Brian maldonado
