• Third-degree burn. McDonald's "treatment"? MUSTARD.
An expectant mother is told by her manager to treat a bad boiling-water burn with mustard. MUSTARD. A fast-food worker gets third-degree burns from a blisteringly hot, totally unsafe fry lamp. A cook sears the entire palm of his hand on a too-hot grill — and his supervisor makes him work for hours before getting it treated. This is the truth about the serious, painful and often permanent injuries that occur every single day in fast-food kitchens across the country. Dangerous conditions, insane “first-aid treatments” like mustard and butter on burns, and poor management have led to this: Four out of five fast-food workers have been burned, most repeatedly. That’s 2.8 million workers burned this year. Call on the Department of Labor to investigate an industry that is putting millions of fast-food workers’ health and safety at risk EVERY DAY.

  • NEED Public Transit To & From Canyons in OC Mountains!
The canyon communities of Silverado, Williams, Modjeska and Trabuco Canyons are home to over a thousand tax-payers (mostly seniors & families), yet there is no public transit available in this area. These rural, historic communities are within the Santa Ana Mountains, OC's largest wild and scenic area. The mountains are a major outdoor recreation destination for hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, picnickers and tourists. Transportation to and from this area is extremely difficult, unless one owns a personal vehicle or is willing to ride a bike or walk 12+ miles along a remote highway from Santiago Canyon College in Orange or Trabuco Hills High School in Mission Viejo. If residents and tourists can take public transit to and from the beach, why can't they take it to and from the mountains?

  • Tell Wyoming Senators John Barrasso & Mike Enzi and Rep. Cynthia Lummis not to stand in the way ...
“Sen. Barrasso believes there are better legal and proven ways to safely address pain.” Of course he does. He'd lose his financing from Big Pharma if he said otherwise. "Republican Sen. Mike Enzi does not support the bill because he has strong reservations about marijuana for medical use, said his spokesman Max D’Onofrio." “There is strong evidence that marijuana does act as a gateway drug, and Sen. Enzi believes we must think about what kind of message these laws would send to our young people, []” The Gateway theory of drugs has been THOROUGHLY DEBUNKED and by Harvard Medical School as well as 6 other National Agencies. Do these guys only read the labels on their shirts?? Their message to kids is "we're lying" so what do kids do - try the harder stuff to see if they're being lied to there too! Ineffective and absolutely unproven. In fact teen drug use has gone DOWN in states that have legalized. We must use the evidence ladies and gentlemen and our three Congressional delegates seem to want to ignore science and the evidence that they are wrong so we must TELL them loud and clear DO NOT OPPOSE THE MEDICAL MARIJUANA BILL ! WE WANT YOU TO PASS IT!!! We cannot have both freedom and a drug-free society. We're choosing to be free and that's the choice we want to see. • Tell ICE: Free Yuliana's Dad!
"As an educator for 24 years, I often see how the breakdown of the family impacts a child's education as well as their outlook on the future. Strong family units provide children with stability and support they need to become productive citizens. It is that love and encouragement from the parents that ensures their children a bright and successful life. It is my hope that Yuliana's family stay intact allowing her and her siblings the opportunity to grow and learn through the support of both parents." - Mrs. Honeycutt, 6th grade teacher

  • Oregon Legislators, Fund Our Schools!
Parent Eric Neiwert's call to action on Facebook: Oregon parents and other interested parties. I need you to make your voices heard. This past week the Oregon legislature announced a K12 budget that is $600 Million short of what is recommended by educators statewide. What is clear is that this budget will result in cuts to school districts across the state. In my children's district, Gresham-Barlow School District, this will result in a $5 million cut. This means either a 10 day reduction in each of the next two years or 45 additional staff will be cut. This is after sustaining cuts over six years leaving us with bare bones programs that shortchange our students.

  • 47 Senators Who Violated 18 USC § 954- Withdraw Your Signatures and Letter or be Prosecuted. Apol...
We the People agree with Vice President Biden's feelings about the letter, which he described as "beneath the dignity of an institution I revere." The 44 Democrats and 2 Independents of the Senate only need 5 Republican votes to officially censure their colleagues for committing an egregious breach of international diplomacy with their unwanted and inappropriate letter to Iran. Censure Less severe than expulsion, a censure (sometimes referred to as condemnation or denouncement) does not remove a senator from office. It is a formal statement of disapproval, however, that can have a powerful psychological effect on a member and his/her relationships in the Senate. https://www.senate.gov/reference/reference_index_subjects/Censure_vrd.htm

  • Stop Toxic Testing in Illinois
We the undersigned educators, parents, and concerned citizens recognize the need to educate the whole child. We believe that children are individuals, and that differentiated instruction should occur to meet the needs of students. Valuable instructional time is being lost in order to teach to the tests. Weeks of direct instruction are being lost to prepare and administer the PARCC assessments. Many educators feel that these tests are two full grade levels above students comprehension levels. Moreover, there were no wide scale public hearings held to allow for educator input. Have we learned nothing from the failed mandates of No Child Left Behind? We must stop the reliance of high standards tests as indicators of students future success. We must stop toxic testing!
