I live in the middle of the fracking frenzy in Doddridge County, WV. We are the true sacrifice zone folks keep hearing about.

Movements to enfranchise groups (by property, age, gender, race, birthplace, etc.) have been afoot since the foundation. While well intentioned, such criteria miss the mark. Alone, the act of voting is hollow, signifying little.

We have a local park in Mt. Morris, Wisconsin. Without anyone's consent in Waushara county, local loggers are clear cutting trees, stating the trees are diseased. A highly educated arbitrator looked at the acres that have thus far been destroyed by loggers for personal profit, stating there are very few trees with disease. We need to save this beautiful mountain-park.

There are too many people who are dumping off their pets along the roads, killing them, beating them, hoarding them, running puppy mills and fighting them with other animals. People should have to qualify to adopt a pet from anywhere and from anyone. If they can not afford them, then they should not be allowed to care for them. It is a proven fact that even though pets forgive unconditionally, they still have the emotions, feelings and the mentality of a 3 to 5 year old. Imagine someone mistreating your child at that age; they would go to jail and be charged with a felony. We rescued a sky terrier that was kept in a cage, fed saw dust and molasses, never taken out of the pen, picked up by her ears, and continuously bred for half her life. When we got her home and sat her in the grass, she got used to it and she ran and jumped and rolled in it. You would have thought she was crazy when all it was was excitement to be able to run and play. We rescued another puppy. When the owner would return to his house and the puppy barked and jumped with excitement, the man kicked the puppy clear across the room yelling at it to shut up and get down. These two dogs are the most gentle babies ever. We could go on and on about animals we have rescued but won't do that. Please, let's get the word out and stop animal cruelty.

I have Avascular Necrosis secondary to Sickle Cell Anemia. Sickle Cell Anemia is an awful, life-threatening disease which causes frequent, painful, hemolytic crises. Sickle Cell Anemia will eventually cost me my physical life. AVN, in the meantime, is robbing me of everything else. Mutual sufferers of AVN around the country and the world need this disease to be understood. We need to be heard and validated. We need a cure. When? Now!!!

I turned 80 this past year. I have lived through a lot of history: World War 2, the invention and proliferation of nuclear and chemical weapons, space explorations, the movements for civil rights, workers rights, women's rights, marriage rights, questionable wars, global conflicts, our perpetual state of war, growing economic inequality and corporate greed... The members of Local 220 feel Angelo Arevalos removal is unjust. There has been no accusations or evidence presented that Angelo had any involvement in the misuse of funds pertaining to local 220.

Recently, the State of Arizona joined a host of other states in suing the federal government over the President's executive action on immigration. In addition to subjecting thousands of Arizona families to deportation, this lawsuit, if successful, would deny work permits to thousands of Arizona immigrants and deprive Arizona of a massive $100 million in much-needed tax revenue over the next five years. President Obama had to act on immigration after Republicans in Congress chose to do nothing. And despite the fact that President Obama's immigration action will benefit countless families in Arizona and generate millions of dollars in taxes, Gov. Jan Brewer and Attorney General Tom Horne are joining with their political partisans to block it. When it comes to anti-immigrant records, no governor comes close to Jan Brewer. She was on the wrong side of history when it came to the state’s controversial SB 1070, and the Supreme Court recently denied her attempt to strip driver’s licenses from DREAMers. Why does she keep attacking the immigrants who keep Arizona thriving? We need Gov. Brewer and her administration to immediately end the lawsuit against President Obama and stop the attacks against immigrant workers and families living in Arizona. They are part of our state and they deserve a way to become documented residents, not shunned and set up for deportation.
