We need leadership to fight Ebola. Confirm Vivek Murthy as Surgeon GeneralRepublican politicians continue to play political games with our healthcare. They have had more than 50 votes in Congress to repeal Obamacare. They have refused to expand Medicaid in dozens of states across the nation. They have closed reproductive health clinics. They have cut budgets for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health. (The NIH said that these cuts have delayed the development on an effective Ebola vaccine.) Now, these same GOP leaders are hypocritically calling for an “Ebola Czar.” Sen John McCain, a vocal opponent of appointing “czars,” is now leading the fight to appoint an Ebola Czar. The problem is that the federal government already has a position to lead the nation on healthcare issues like Ebola. It’s called the Surgeon General. Unfortunately, the position has been vacant for over a year. Obama's nominee for the position, Vivek Murthy, has had his appointment held up for months by Republicans in the Senate (mostly because of opposition from the NRA). Tell Congress to stop playing political games with our healthcare. Tell Congress that the leadership we need on Ebola is waiting for their vote. Confirm Vivek Murthy for Surgeon General now!6,465 of 7,000 SignaturesCreated by Michael Morrill

Insurance Company Denies Long Term Disability to Employee with Fatal DiseaseI was diagnosed with a fatal and incurable disease in 2006. I pushed myself until October 2013. I had to fight to get all of my Short Term Disability. I have been banned from driving, I have crippling arthritis, I am connected to Phillips Lifeline because I have trouble walking and much more. I am due LTD pay back to April 29, 2014 and I have exhausted all financial outlets. If my employer and the organization I am contracted to can spend millions to fight Ebola ~ it's time for them to STEP UP TO THE PLATE and pay me the 60% of my measly salary until my Social Security Disability is approved!13 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Tammy A. Justice for Nevaeh and Joseph Toone J.rOur children were physically and Verbally abused at the Pyramid Lake Wadsworth daycare Center By Courtney Woo a child care provider who is still employed at the Wadsworth Daycare Center by the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe. Cheryl Ewing the director of The day care center and also the mother of suspect Courtney Woo, Cheryl Ewing had intentionally tried to cover up her daughters crimes and is by law a Mandated reporter but did nothing to report this abuse or follow through with her job duties. She allowed her daughter to commit these heinous crimes on our 1 year old daughter and our 4 year old son and did nothing to stop it and is still working at the Pyramid Lake daycare center while under investigation, employed by the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe. We have reached out to the Pyramid Lake Paiute tribe everyday for the past week and were promised assistance and understanding but instead we received silence and nothing! We as parents will do whatever it takes to get justice for our children and prevent anybody elses children from being a victim to child abuse! Courtney Woo and Cheryl Ewing are around children everyday! We the parents of little Nevaeh and Joseph want to prevent any other children from being harmed and bring these two corrupt people to face the consequences of their crimes. We as parents need to take a stand and protect our children because thats just what we are Parents! We have a duty to our children to protect and Love them. We are reaching out to all parents to stand up for your children, our grand children, our nieces and nephews our future leaders and our community. Nobody has a right to abuse a innocent child and get away with it! Lets stand together for whats right and stand together for our children. Governor Brown: People of Faith call on you to stop frackingGovernor Brown himself is a person of faith and well understands that the world is in peril because of pending climate catastrophe stemming from the burning of fossil fuels. Brown has even taken action to stop climate change, however, his permissive policies in regards to fracking undo his positive steps, not to mention threaten communities across California. Ultimately, Jerry Brown, to be a true climate leader, needs to do more than take half-steps around climate change and therefore needs to stop permitting all toxic forms of unconventional fossil fuel extraction techniques like fracking in California and move us to a 100% renewable energy economy. Climate leaders don't frack, and understand the imperative to protect present and future generations.155 of 200 SignaturesCreated by David Braun

Demanding Public Accountability By BCSOMy name is Doug DiZoglio, and I live in Bay County, Florida. On Jan 14 2013, a Bay County deputy entered my home uninvited, without warrant, without cause, and without procedure. He demanded I give him my dog, saying "You will give me that f**** dog, Mr. DiZoglio.” I responded by telling him to leave my house and said "If you are not the police or a deputy at this time, just an armed intruder, then I am about to call 911 to have you arrested. Please leave." At that point he charged at me and began beating me. He cuffed me and said if I ever speak of this to anyone he will be back to finish this. Then he uncuffed me, repeated the threat, and left. While this happened, an animal control officer also came into my home and took my dog, dragging him by the neck out of the house and to the shelter. I reported this to Internal Affairs, but there was no action. The deputy did not do his incident report until 5-6 weeks later, and it was a story I had to work hard to recognize. There was no accountability, from either the Sheriff’s Office or Animal Control. They break the laws, hurt us, and do it without fear of consequence. Isn’t it the job of the Sheriff’s Office to help the public feel safe? Isn’t it their job to supervise their deputies? Isn’t it their job to respond to honest reports of harm done to citizens? Please sign my petition, saying you agree that things are out of control and that we the public demand accountability.21 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Doug DiZoglio

Stop censorship of climate science in new school textbooks! Two major publishers have drafted new social studies textbooks for K-12 students in Texas that are filled with misinformation about climate change. Since Texas is the nation’s second largest buyer of textbooks, books produced for the state are often sold nationwide. The Texas State Board of Education is reviewing these books now, and will decide at its November meeting whether to approve them. Among other egregious errors, the draft textbooks from publishers McGraw Hill and Pearson assert there is an active dispute among scientists about the primary cause of climate change. The climate change-denying Heartland Institute is given equal footing with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which integrates the work of thousands of credentialed, peer-reviewed scientists. The publishers are responding to pressure from climate deniers on the Texas State Board of Education, who are determined to stop students from learning the overwhelming scientific consensus on climate change -- that it is happening now and caused by human activities, primarily the burning of fossil fuels. Unless McGraw-Hill and Pearson correct the many factual errors about climate change before its books are presented to the Board next month, students across the country will be denied accurate information about the biggest global challenge their generation will face. It’s crucial that we send a strong message right away that censoring climate science in order to sell books is unethical and an unacceptable disservice to students, and must be corrected.70 of 100 SignaturesCreated by John Friedrich

Stop Fisd2015My bestfriends (of seven years) will be attending Wakeland HS next year when they live one street away from me. I see no need for Eldarado Estates going to Lonestar HS. This will be the third time I've been affected by FISD re-zoning schools! I will not take this anymore! My neighborhood should be going to Wakeland not Lonestar!167 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Sidney Smith

Vote YES on 2: Stop Litter in MAThe Bottle Bill places a refundable nickel deposit on beer and soda bottles, and those containers get recycled 80% of the time. Other drinks like bottled water, juice, and sports drinks don't have the deposit and only get recycled 23% of the time. These containers are the ones that end up as litter in our parks, beaches, and ballfields, and we shouldn't tolerate it. Vote YES on 2 to keep Massachusetts beautiful.691 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Andrew Fish
