• Keep the DEA out of PCP Doctor's Protocol for New Patients
Since the DEA got involved in healthcare, I was "fired" from my PCP because they no longer wanted to treat me, pain or no pain. A group of doctors in my town of Grand Junction, CO., had been arrested for abusing the prescribing protocols, and they were a cash-only enterprise. Since that happened, no doctor in town will touch a chronic pain patient with a 10-foot pole. I have not been able to re-establish another PCP for going on 2 years now... to say nothing of getting proper treatment for my health issues. I have been told to "apply" online for new doctors, but I get denied because I have been treated for pain in the past--it doesn't even have to be going on presently. Just recently, I had to go to the hospital twice for a severe kidney infection because my complaint and symptoms were rushed by the emergency staff the first time around and sent home. The chronic pain I have stems from a violent attack I sustained in 2008, where I was hurled down 2nd floor-high metal steps, and then raped and left for dead. I did not ask for this pain that has changed my life forever, nor am I a junkie. I just need a physician that gives a damn and will treat me with dignity and without prejudice. Please sign the petition asking congress to amend the DEA control over who doctors can admit as patients so that ALL can be treated fairly.

  • Demand fairer workplace policies!
We’re a community of women and men sticking up for the idea that in America, you shouldn’t have to choose between being there for family and bringing home a paycheck. If politicians want to talk “family values,” it’s time they start valuing families. That means recognizing that Americans need paid time off for illness or caring for family, affordable childcare, and a living wage. Election Day is right around the corner, so there’s no better time to send a message to candidates that if they want our vote, they need to show they’ll fight for ALL of us. Let's show just how many of us believe that we deserve not just a decent living, but also a decent life. Make your voice heard -- add your name to demand fairer workplace policies so that all of us can make it work.

  • IL Senators: Vote NO on S. 2496
In the past decade, protections for waters of the United States have been stripped away by the Supreme Court. EPA's rule will restore Clean Water Act protections that have been lost for 55% of Illinois waterways. Clean water is necessary for public health, recreation, business, and for our children's futures.

  • Sen. Durbin: Protect Illinois Water
Millions of Illinoisans rely on Lake Michigan and other Illinois waterways for drinking water, yet the Lake continues to be treated like a personal sewer for the region’s largest polluters. EPA's rule will restore Clean Water Act protections necessary to public health, recreation, and business, that have been lost for 55% of Illinois waterways.

  • Congress: Stand with Elizabeth Warren and investigate the New York Fed
I work as an Investigative Analyst in the Major Economic Crimes Bureau of the New York County District Attorney’s Office. I focus on large white-collar crime cases, and hope to work in this field full-time after I graduate from law school. The recently-released recordings from New York Fed bank examiner Carmen Segarra are very troubling to me, and show an unsettling level of deference to banks by the investigators who are supposed to be regulating them. This is the same kind of behavior that we saw during the financial crisis, and we thought that things had changed since then. We need to make sure we are pushing for stronger oversight of the banks instead of letting Wall Street do what it pleases. Senator Elizabeth Warren has called for Congressional hearings into the culture at the New York Federal Reserve, and we're standing with her to urge Congress to take action. Add your name to join Senator Warren's push for an investigation.

  • EPA: Stop Bee-Killing Pesticides
Bees play a crucial role in our food system -- producing 1 of every 3 bites of food we eat -- but out of control pesticide use is wiping them out and putting our food system at risk. That’s why thousands of concerned citizens are coming together to send the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency an urgent message to put an immediate stop to the use of bee-killing pesticides. The EPA is responsible for regulating the pesticides that are killing our bees—neonicotinoids—and they have so far fast-tracked the approval of these bee-killing chemicals instead of taking a hard look at their effects and protecting pollinators from their harms. Worse, they’ve ignored calls to take action on these pesticides from beekeepers, environmentalists, scientists, and even Members of Congress. That’s where we come in. Last Spring, Center for Food Safety and a coalition of beekeepers, environmental and consumer groups filed a lawsuit against the EPA for its failure to protect pollinators from these dangerous pesticides. But the EPA has still not responded to our legal action, so your pressure on the agency to take immediate action to protect our pollinators is critical! Honey bees and other pollinators are essential to a healthy food supply and environment. Right now, bee losses are unsustainable. It is urgent that our regulatory agencies take more aggressive action to prevent further declines of pollinators, and acknowledge the role that pesticides play. If we don’t come together to save our bees, who will?

  • Megafarms Don't Need Unlimited Government Subsidies!
In the final hours of debate on the 2014 Farm Bill, Congress stripped the popular bi-partisan reform that would have tightened what it means to be “actively engaged” in farming. Without this definition, mega-farmers use this as a loophole to multiply their payments for every acre they add to their operation. This hurts small and mid-sized family farmers too, who aren't getting rich from farm payments. The time has come for the Obama Administration to fulfill their 2007 campaign pledge and close the loopholes mega-farms use to get around farm program payment limits.

  • NO CPV VALLEY FRACK-FIRED POWER PLANT IN NY
New York state agencies are in the process of permitting several new gas-fired power plants such as the CPV Valley Energy Center in Orange County. These plants would be fueled by fracking in Pennsylvania and predicated on fracking in New York. This is the wrong road to take if we want a viable and sustainable energy policy that advances us toward 100% usage of renewable resources. Fracking is an inherently dangerous industrial process that is devastating communities in Pennsylvania as well as in New York, through its related infrastructure. We are opposed to the sale, transportation, and use of fracked gas. We demand that all New York state public officials as well as state agencies reject this project that depends on and facilitates fracking.

  • Only organizations that follow true ORGANIC standards should be labeled with USDA Organic Label
I already find it hard as it is to find quality food for my family. Having the option to use the USDA organic seal as a guide would be helpful if it were accurate to the presumption that it is truly safe of any harmful chemicals. The USDA has repeatedly permitted certifications of organizations known to not meet the legal requirement for said certification. Two examples are CCFO and Oregon Tilth. Organic Farming should entail requirements – Free of synthetic chemicals of any kind – Free of genetically modified organisms – Free of irradiation, pasteurization or sterilization – Produced in soils of enhanced biological activity – Produced via reputable farming strategies such as on crop rotations, crop residues, animal manures, mechanical cultivation, approved mineral-bearing rocks and aspects of biological pest control to maintain soil productivity, to supply plant nutrients and to control insects, weeds and other pests. Our food supply needs to be properly labeled.
