American Progressive Bag Alliance: Don’t fight to repeal California’s plastic bag banThe ink from Jerry Brown's signature is barely dry, but some in the plastics industry are already threatening to repeal the new law that bans single-use plastic bags in California. This isn’t anything new. For eight long years, some in the industry have blocked the bills Environment California fought for and introduced at the local and state level. But we have prevailed, and today, 127 cities and towns—40% of the state—is living bag free. Our statewide bill has just become law. Instead of adapting to become a better steward of the environment, now some in the industry are saying they want to put the law on the ballot and repeal it. Together, we can keep them from overturning this monumental victory for keeping plastic out of the Pacific. But it’s going to take all of us weighing in.70 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Dan Jacobson

Gov Brown: Thank you for banning plastic bags in CaliforniaOver 100,000 tons of single-use plastic bags are thrown out each year—in California alone. Those bags end up in the beaches, rivers, and other open spaces, causing harm to wildlife and marring the landscape. But, thanks to a new law signed by California governor Jerry Brown, single-use plastic bags will be banned in the state starting next July. Governor Brown’s actions create a safer environment for California, from the turtles and seabirds who regularly mistake these bags for food, to the Pacific, where toxic chemicals leak from the plastic and pollute the ocean, to the volunteers who work tirelessly to clean the bags from beaches and parks. Join me in thanking Governor Brown for making the right choice for Californians and becoming a leader in the fight to ban plastic bags across the country.39 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Dan Jacobson

Chief Cathy Lanier: We need justice for BereketOn September 14, 2014, our lives were forever changed upon receiving the most devastating news that our dear friend Bereket Haile “BK” was a victim of a deadly hit and run while he was crossing the 2700 block of Georgia Ave. NW in Washington, DC. The Ethiopian Community in the DMV area is still in shock for what happened to Bereket, we are asking the Metropolitan Police Department to increase the ongoing investigation of the hit and run. We do understand that MPD workload can be overwhelming sometime and we are offering our unconditional help as a community to find the killer. We will not rest until this case is solved nor we will accept this as of yet another unsolved case. Within the past few years we have lost many members of our community and we have yet to find answers for many questions we have asked, we are starting this petition to make the appropriate people aware that this time around the situation is quite different. We as a community are determined to find the answer to the question “Who Killed Bereket?”662 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Daniel Tadesse

End the Ridgway School-Community CrisisThree years is too long for bargaining strife. It is impacting the morale of the district employees and diverting attention from the goals of our school district. It is time for the school board to end the crisis by negotiating in good faith to settle a fair contract.485 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Lucy Harlow

Cal State Hemet SupportersHemet was founded on the belief in pubic support for education-. The historically significant Hemet High schools , the old Carnegie Library and even the naming of major streets after well known east coast colleges all remind the present that education was the key block to building the community up for future generations.. After decades of neglect, the buildings are torn down, the community divided and the city core has become ground zero for fewest educational opportunities in Riverside County. Let's rebuild the city the old fashioned way, by building a Cal State Campus in downtown Hemet's forgotten center, before the beautiful old Hemet Elementary School is torn down by county bureaucrats..39 of 100 SignaturesCreated by John Phillip Doddridge

Investigate Cory Gardner's claims on contraceptionClaiming support from a non-existent group is a serious issue that needs to be investigated. Also, contraception is not a one product fits all product. A doctor's advise is essential to receive the right product for each woman seeking contraceptive counsel.80 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Ken Finton

Help Relocate the SPROUTS Student Garden at Indiana UniversityThe SPROUTS garden has been displaced because of an Indiana University building plan, with no place to go. In its 9 years of existence, the garden has served thousands of students with education in organic gardening, food literacy, sustainability, as well as provided fresh organic produce and medicinal herbs to volunteers and local food agencies, and an environment that fosters friendship and community. Without the garden, SPROUTS almost doesn't exist. Destroying this garden will remove a priceless benefit from the IU community. Relocation is essential for SPROUTS to continue is mission on campus.287 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Daniel Atlas

Change the names of public places named after racist Tom YawkeyTom Yawkey, who owned the Boston Red Sox for many years, was a known racist. The Red Sox were thus one of the last major league baseball teams to hire African American players. Every time I get off the train at Yawkey Station, then walk down Yawkey Way (in front of Fenway Park) on my way to work, I wonder why was anything ever named after Tom Yawkey. It is an insult to the good citizens of the metropolitan Boston area.25 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Bill Dain
