The new stand provides only enough space to place 20 newspapers, about a 40% size reduction. Though there was tremendous community and political outcry, the DOT went ahead with their plans. Most voters feel one of the most important pieces of information about a ballot measure is who's spending money trying to pass or defeat it. But that information is virtually impossible to find. SB 844 (Pavley) will make it easy to see who's spending money for and against California propositions by requiring the Secretary of State to create an online page with the total amount raised and the top ten funders for and against each one. The official ballot pamphlet will include a link to the page to make it easy to find. Any day now, Governor Brown will decide whether to sign or veto SB 844. Please urge the Governor to sign it, and then share the petition with your friends.

Once again, Wall Street is going all-out to block the work of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the new agency created to bring basic standards of fairness and transparency to the banking and lending markets. And once again, the CFPB needs to hear a strong expression of public encouragement and support.

Free trade agreements like TPP and TTIP are being pushed by the industries most responsible for driving climate change, including fossil fuel and industrial agriculture interests. These agrements empower corporations to attack our environmental laws and expand market access for producers of GHG intensive agricultural products like farmed shrimp, pastured beef, and palm oil from crops grown in the place of clearcut rainforests.

I have been a teacher all my life and I have experienced student evaluations of teachers. These should be seen by administrators but judged in context of the course and the teacher's grading. Local control is important to every school system, and teachers should not be excluded from constructing the evaluation process.

A challenger to Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon has emerged with quite a laundry list of skeletons in her closet. An allegation of stalking an ex boyfriend, and now a charge accusing her of plagiarism on her website. Seemingly out of nowhere this woman, allegedly funded by the Koch Bros. backed dark money seeks to unseat Oregon Senate progressive champion Jeff Merkley, but who is responsible for her? More importantly, who would SHE be responsible TO? Apparently, the Koch Bros. in their rush to buy this Senate seat, did not check her out very thoroughly, and now have quite an embarrassment on their hands. Tell the Kochs to stop attempting to purchase Senate seats by putting their vindictive, plagiarizing puppets on display like this, Its embarrassing and does a disservice to Democracy.

Jeffco Public School Board has just proposed a change of curriculum stating that, "Materials should not encourage or condone civil disorder, social strife or disregard of the law. Instructional materials should present positive aspects of the United States and its heritage." This means that important parts of our history such as the Civil Rights Movement, Native American genocide, and slavery will not be taught in public schools. If we don't learn about genocide and slavery, how will we help stop them from happening again? If we don't understand the tremendous legacy of the Civil Rights Era, how can we work every day to honor and build on the gains made by so many courageous Americans? This is a severe form of censorship intended to keep the youth ignorant and easy to manipulate. I'm hoping to get enough signatures to prove that this is a public issue, so, please, if this is important to you, please sign. Do not let our youth grow up in ignorance; we all deserve the truth!

The People have the right to know who is supporting and working for a candidates election.

This is about the law which was created few years back "False Alarm Reduction Program" . The sad thing is most citizen like me doesn't even aware of such a law. And the government is totally taking advantage of this. For instance, I was fine a $225, a fine of $150 and late fee. And I had no clue. How can you blame the citizen to keep up all these unnecessary laws/rules and regulations when people are working day and night to bring food to the table and taking care of their family. When will the government stop ripping off people. We already pay enough taxes. This Law of Georgia " False Alarm Reduction Program" should be eliminated.

My brother has served 19 years in the Marine Corps, including two active duty tours in Iraq. He sustained a physical injury during service and has been diagnosed with severe PTSD. He has less than 9 months until full retirement, and the Marine Corp has declared him unfit for further service and will separate him from service with a minimal cash severance and no veteran's benefits for him or his family on SEPTEMBER 30TH, 2014. Each of his petitions and requests to remain in service have been denied.
