• Save Our Trees
Caltrans has begun removing the trees along the 101 right of way, down Kansas St., and it has increased the noise significantly. The trees are the only protection this side of Potrero Hill has from the freeway sites/sounds/dirt/grime/etc. Caltrans should stop removing trees and replace the ones we've lost with some sort of sound/sight barrier.

  • How can we protect the Arctic region?
"The Arctic is an amazing place, home to whales, polar bears, and other amazing creatures. Climate change is affecting all of us, but the Arctic region will feel the effects first, and is the canary of our planet. We need to act now to protect it for future generations."

  • Work While on Welfare to Buy Toilet Paper = Homeless in Oakland, CA
Because depriving someone of the means of getting TOILET PAPER, and then punishing them for trying to do a little honest work WHILE DISABLED and then HONESTLY REPORTING IT by putting them through bureaucratic hell and then creating an imminent threat to their housing arrangements is JUST WRONG!

  • MYELOFIBROSIS & MEDICARE
I was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis one year ago and have been receiving treatment at MDAnderson, where I am participating in a research study . This is a rare blood disorder and the only cure is a stem cell transplant. When I was denied insurance coverage by Medicare, I realized that they factor in your age, and "old people" are going to die anyway, so why allow treatment when this individual already lived their life. Sorry but I'm 66 years old, and I have a lot of life left in me. If I need the transplant, I want the transplant. I am doing my part participating in this research study and I should at least be given the option of a life saving treatment.

  • Our loved ones deserve better care
Most seniors living in nursing homes are usually in a fragile condition. Families are relying on those facilities to provide the best care for their loved ones as possible. In most of those facilities, there is not a RN on duty all of the time. Some only have a RN on duty during the day. These residents need specialized care but are left to rely on a Certified Nursing Assistant, who have limited training. If a CNA is going to be left to care for these patients, they need to have more critical care training, and be required to take a test to determine if that type of work is a good fit for them. There needs to be at least 1 RN, preferably 2, on duty in nursing homes and critical care facilities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

  • Save the Arctic!
Many companies think it's okay to attack our world's nature preserves, and we all have to work together to show them that it's not! Many animals are dying or becoming extinct because of the horror that's happening in the Arctic. If you look at what some gas companies are doing, you'll see it's all because of money and resources. They're willing to kill life to get what they need to make their company more successful. But what's more important, the life of these animals and the value of the Arctic or which company has the best oil?

  • STOP DISCRIMINATION AGAINST FELONS!!
I am starting this petition because it is unfair to people who are convicted of a felony and that have changed their life for the better, have gotten a college education, and are discriminated against with employers! We deserve a second chance to become successful too! And people wonder why felons revert back to their old illegal ways! Because no one is willing to give us a chance! One mistake and we're given a life sentence! No good jobs, no housing! Considered the black sheep of America! Its not right! How are we supposed to get our lives back on track? Employment discrimination against us needs to stop!!!! Unless it's murder, rape, child molestatation or something to that effect, it shouldn't have to be disclosed! You could even make it where after a certain number of years, it doesn't have to be disclosed ! We need fair treatment!!!

  • No taxation without representation
The Colony of Columbia has a nonvoting member in the House and no representation in the Senate. We (theoretically) elect a mayor and District Council member, but our own tax dollars are controlled by Congress even though we don't have a vote. Over the years, votes on many progressive issues (gun control, medical marijuana, and even the placement of a firehouse) have been overturned by Congress despite the wishes of the local citizenry. If they won't give us home rule and a vote in Congress, we should not be paying for Congress to decide how to use.
