• Oregon: GMO crops threatening monarch butterflies
The monarch butterfly is in serious trouble. The spread of GMO crops and accompanying pesticides have been wiping out the young monarch's key food source, milkweed. But you can help! Add your name to our petition calling on the EPA and USDA to stop approving pesticide-resistant genetically engineered crops and to instead promote non-toxic pest and weed management to the benefit of farmers, our health, our ecosystems and the precious monarch butterfly.

  • Chancellor Fariña, lower the stakes around testing for teachers and families in NYC!
This petition was started by parents at PS 29 in Brooklyn. We join with public school parents across the city to ask Chancellor Fariña to stand up and lead the transformation of the New York City public school system into a model of equity, fairness, and innovation. As a legendary educator, Fariña knows that teachers are equipped with student work and assessments, which, in comparison to a flat test score, can provide far more accurate and comprehensive information with which to gauge students' qualifications for school admissions. She also knows that volumes of evidence prove that using test scores is an ineffective way of measuring teachers' competence.

There is no reason why we, the people of the Virgin Islands, should be punished for our inept government. They refuse to allow us to control our own destiny. I, for one, am tired of it!

  • Condemn Pennsylvania's cruel punishment of families over school truancy.
Eileen DiNino of Reading, Pennsylvania, died in her cell last Saturday. [1] The mother of seven children had been sentenced to serve 48 hours in jail for owing $2,000 in fines and court costs due to her children's truancy from school. Within hours, she was dead and her seven children had lost their mother. The cause of death is unknown, but what we do know is that since 2000, the State of Pennsylvania has sent 1,600 other people, mostly women, to jail just in Berks county over truancy fines. Why is Pennsylvania running what amounts to debtors' prisons for poor families with serious problems? How do they think it works that sending an impoverished parent to jail helps a family support children who are struggling in school? State budget cuts have led to a judicial system that tries to pay for itself by charging defendants for everything from computer fees to postage costs, and then jailing people who can't pay in a national penal system infamous for medical neglect. It's a horrible system that shouldn't take a woman's death to wake people up to want to change. But Eileen DiNino's children have to suffer the horror of having their mother taken from them so cruelly for the rest of their lives, and to have this happen one time is to have it happen too many times. Stand with us to demand that Pennsylvania stop punishing truancy by imposing costly fines and jail time on struggling families. • REMOVE RACIST HATE GROUPS FROM FACEBOOK
On Sunday, June 15, 2014, I was exposed to the worse kind of racism imaginable. While going through this experience, I learned this is happening on a regular basis, mainly to any ''Black History'' group or any group educating African Americans on Facebook, but other ethnic groups as well. When the activity was reported, I was told this: Thank you for taking the time to report something that you feel may violate our Community Standards. Reports like yours are an important part of making Facebook a safe and welcoming environment. We reviewed the page you reported for harassment and found it doesn't violate our Community Standards. Now I wondered what did, I was called the N-Word, ape, monkey, etc. Then they posted my group on their hate page which started a rush of racist remarks. 6 reports were filed by me alone, and each and every one said the same as the first. This needs to stop, this needs to be handled the right way. Not long ago they removed posts that complained about minorities being overlooked in award shows, one of those posts was mine, but they allow hate, racism, and bigotry towards blacks and other minorities. Now to me and many others, if these activities do not violate their standards, maybe the level needs to be raised a bit. Please help me put a stop to this.

  • Bring Mommycon to Atlanta, Georgia!
This petition is in the hopes that we can get the attention of Mommycon and have them come to Atlanta, Georgia for an event. Why do we want them here and what are they? Mommycon is a "mom and pop" run event that hosts events in different cities all across the US. They are a source of information for all moms, no matter if you are still pregnant, recently gave birth, or have a few littles running around already. Although every event is different, they boast birth professionals, lactation consultants, baby carriers and wraps and experts to help you try them out yourself, the newest baby products, snacks for the young ones, and so much more! They provide scheduled speakers on topics such as plus size births, breastfeeding, health and nutrition for both mom and baby, postpartum depression and attachment parenting. Kids are allowed as well as family members or anyone else you'd like to bring along. Please sign my petition to get their attention! They would be an asset to our community and provide resources that are essential to some, if not all, mommies here.
