• Lee County Workers Deserve a Raise
Lee County commissioners work part time but make more than $87,000 a year. That’s more than double what some Lee County employees make working full time. These bus drivers, animal control workers, waste and water treatment operators and other public service workers, who provide vital services to taxpayers and keep our communities safe every day, continue to be denied raises. Many of them are struggling to keep up with their mortgages and put food on the tables for their families. If Lee County commissioners can make a living wage, why can’t workers, too? Sign the petition to tell commissioners it’s far past time to give workers a raise.

  • Findthetruthon38studios
Are you mad about 38 Studios...the insider loan that went bad and will cost Rhode Islanders more than $80 million of their hard earned tax dollars? Here's one way to channel that anger! Sign this online petition to support the appointment of an independent, outside counsel to investigate ALL aspects of the disastrous 38 Studios loan. Rhode Island taxpayers deserve to know exactly how this happened. Our General Assembly voted NOT to look at this fiasco. It's time for Rhode Island voters to join in demanding truth and accountability. We won't get that through sham investigations such as the one being run by Secretary of State Mollis. State officials cannot be allowed to investigate themselves; only a third party with no fingerprints at the scene of the crime can produce the truth!

  • Commuter Safety
The few bars that are open late put drunk drivers on the road at the same time as morning commuters. Closing the bars at 2 AM will also keep drunk people off the highway (between the 49th, Totem, and Northstar) at the time of heavier traffic. So drinking and commuting will be safer! My mother, Gitte Stryhn, an important member of this rural (ca. 1,000 -person) Alaskan community, was recently killed by a drunk driver that was leaving the Totem bar while she was bicycling to work. Only 1 bar is open until 5 AM. So only 1 bar will be affected by a 3-hour difference in closing time. Three bars are normally open until three or three-thirty, so they will close only an hour or an hour and a half earlier. One bar that stays open late only on very special occasions would only be able to stay open until two.

  • Veteran Prescription Co-Pay's
Veterans that have served their country honorably should NOT have to pay a co-pay on prescription drugs. Especially veterans who are disabled and on a pension or social security disability. Isn't it hardship enough that the veteran is disabled?

  • U.S. Dept. of Justice-Investigate biotech industries
The biotech industries are about to approve stronger toxic chemicals to be sprayed on our food. The USDA and FDA are only working for the sake of corporations and not doing anything for "we the people". This insanity has got to stop!

  • Boycott Walgreens
I am starting this petition because Congress is not/will not do anything about unfair laws that benefit corporations at the expense of average people and the general welfare of our country. As individuals we have the power to make Walgreens reconsider this move.

  • It's Time to Fight Back:
To stop the behind-door handshaking; to claim back our natural beauty. It's high time the DEP, the EPA, and the City and County work together and clean this up instead of hide from the problem. When I say there are problems--there are problems. Who monitors their own emissions??? Well, Argos does and the city of Newberry let them after offering them 7 years tax-free - with the promise of annexing in Argos (or who ever owns this factory at the time). Money Money Money. I am worth more than money, as well as is all of us. I'm starting this petition because I have been its victim. I have been diagnosed with COPD, which is a slow, deadly pulmonary disease caused by toxic smoke; the toxic smoke they let out every morning before light in order to keep those kilns cranking.

  • No child should be denied medical services because their parents cannot afford to pay.
My daughter's family has gone bankrupt due to medical expenses for their very ill child. This happened DESPITE having 'insurance'. They can barely afford decent food even though both are working. Extended family has helped out as much as they can. There is a very negative ripple effect when a crisis as described above happens: not only the immediate family is traumatized, but extended family and friends as well. Lives are put on hold, productivity goes down, depression sets in. It is in everyone's interest that we unconditionally take care of our young, if not out of noble intentions, then because the young will eventually be the ones who take care of us. HOW they take care of us may well be determined by how well we take care of them.

  • No Heliport in North Fork
Over 100 residents have voiced opposition to the construction of a heliport as it will disrupt the lifestyle of the Loudoun Valley. There is an existing helipad at the Leesburg Executive airport suitable for use. The Coalition to Keep Western Loudoun Peaceful has been started specifically for this effort.
