• Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi: Boycott Benghazi Select Committee
Four other bipartisan committees have already investigated the Benghazi attack. One of those lines of inquiry — the Government Oversight Committee’s investigation — remains ongoing. Republican political opportunists have established the select committee only because of their interest in raising money and exciting the GOP base . Appointing members to the committee would lend credibility to such a nonserious political "circus."

  • Protect Elderly in Assisted Living Care Homes from Abuse
There are currently few protections in place to keep our loved ones safe when living in residential care facilities. The existing law does not have a procedure in place for investigating allegations of mistreatment or neglect of the elderly who reside in these homes. This has resulted in injury and death because there was no one charged with the responsibility of making sure that those who could not care for themselves were getting the care they needed and deserved.

  • Gov. Brown: It's Mother's Day, Help a Single Mom Out!
In California $1 billion has been cut from early learning and care over the last five years, causing wait lists to balloon to nearly 200,000 children. In his budget proposal, Governor Brown did not allocate a single extra dollar for early learning. We need to let Gov. Brown know that this has to change.

  • Tell North Carolina Attorney General: Churches should have religious freedom to marry gay couples
Tired of hearing religious liberty used to justify discrimination? You'll love this. In North Carolina, it's actually a crime for a pastor to bless a same-sex relationship. So in a historic case, the United Church of Christ, together with a group of local pastors and couples, is seeking to overturn the state's marriage laws because they violate the church's religious freedom to celebrate same-sex weddings. This first-of-its-kind lawsuit could set a hugely important legal precedent. And the North Carolina attorney general can help by declining to defend against the lawsuit and telling the court he agrees that the state's marriage laws are unconstitutional. Attorney General Roy Cooper says he supports marriage equality, but his office is still planning to argue against the lawsuit in court -- ignoring the example of the Obama administration, which last year told the U.S. Supreme Court that the Defense of Marriage Act was unconstitutional and should be overturned. Presumably, Cooper is worried about his political future in a state with many conservative Christian voters. So let's show him that we're standing with the United Church of Christ and want churches to have the religious freedom to treat same-sex couples exactly the same as opposite-sex ones.

  • Tell ConAgra Foods to Protect Rainforests, Orangutans and People: Cut Conflict Palm Oil!
If we care about our kid’s future, we can no longer buy products that harm our planet. ConAgra Foods, one of the biggest companies in Omaha, NE and the owner of famous brands like Marie Callender’s and Chef Boyardee, uses Conflict Palm Oil in its products. Much of that palm oil drives mass deforestation in Indonesia. ConAgra could easily help protect people and rainforests if it adopted a policy to buy responsible palm oil instead of Conflict Palm Oil. The damage caused by Conflict Palm Oil is tremendous. Deforestation to make way for palm oil plantations threatens unique and priceless ecosystems. It threatens species like the Sumatran tiger and orangutans. The impact on communities who are forced off their land or pushed into forced and child labor is simply unacceptable. The destruction of forests is also releasing carbon into the atmosphere and driving climate change. Other companies are already dropping Conflict Palm Oil from their products. It’s time ConAgra Foods did the same. Would you help us put some pressure on ConAgra Foods by signing this petition? We’ll make sure it’s a message they can’t ignore.

The FDA has proposed a ban on trans fat. While this is great for our kids health we have to make sure companies like Heinz don’t replace trans fat with more Conflict Palm Oil. H.J.
