Honor Indigenous Peoples in UtahDear Sir, It goes on to say that “Columbus Day is a painful symbol of traumatic past.” It’s time we do something about it. We are suggesting, instead of celebrating Columbus Day, we need to honor The Indigenous people by dedicating a Day of Solidarity and Mourning with the Indigenous Peoples. Fact of the matter is, Columbus’ atrocities against humanity are as follow. Raping, pillaging, murders lynching, stealing, just to name a few. Nonetheless, he’s glorified and immortalized by a national holiday in his name because he is credited with "discovering" America. The ancestors of living Native Americans arrived in what is now the United States at least 15,000 years ago, possibly much earlier, from Asia via Beringia. A vast variety of peoples, societies and cultures subsequently developed. Native Americans were greatly affected by the European colonization of the Americas, which began in 1492, and their population declined precipitously mainly due to introduced diseases as well as warfare including biological warfare, the territorial confiscation and slavery. History proves, The Native Americans were already here, of course; and his arrival on the shores of North America began the centuries-old campaign of theft, murder, and dehumanization that has robbed native nations of their lands, their health, and their dignity. By his own account, Columbus enslaved people, destroyed cultures, and terrorized those who challenged his rule. It is time government did something about it. Wistfully, and regretfully, there is little we can do to restore the tribes that were decimated by Europeans' greed, but we can begin to rectify this horrific injustice by refusing to glorify Columbus. Instead recognizing our shared humanity with the natives whose lives and land are continue to be destroyed. It is time to stop celebrating the crimes of Columbus. We must stand in solidarity with the Indigenous people. We demand an end to Columbus Day. Instead of glorifying a person who enslaved and murdered people, destroyed cultures, and terrorized those who challenged his rule, we seek to honor these communities hereby demanding sovereignty, recognition, and rights. We encourage our government to introduce legislation to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day79 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Nasir Khan

Divest In Cops, Invest In CareWe demand the City of Hillsboro decrease the size and scope of its police force and reinvest the funds into social programs. This includes mental health professionals, housing, rehabilitation services, among other programs that limit the factors and circumstances leading to crime. Right now policing covers too broad of a scope. Officers are dispatched to situations without analyzing whether they can properly address the need at hand. It would be better to dispatch trained professionals who specialize in the specific area of the call’s need/focus. For Example: If you see someone having a mental health emergency, currently your only option is to call 911. They would typically dispatch police officers who are untrained to deal with mental health crises. Alternatively, emergency mental health professionals who are trained to assist in this event would be dispatched. They are more adequately prepared to safely de-escalate and diffuse the scenario. Right now the Hillsboro Police Department has a $40 million budget. However, over half of this budget is designated to administrative services and patrolling. Excessive police presence shows no clear benefit to our community. Their presence only serves to intimidate people, whether this is intentional or not. By reducing patrolling and other non-essential police programs, we can free up money to invest in our community. One of the programs that must be removed are School Resource Officers. Replacing SROs with social workers will help students work out their behavioral issues instead of simply punishing them. SROs serve as an intimidation tactic to our students and their presence often leads to the start of criminal records that are hard to move past. Recently, Portland Public Schools made the decision to remove SROs and HSD, being in a lower crime rate area, should do the same. Please sign this petition to urge the Hillsboro City Council to divest in cops and invest in the care of our community!927 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Divest in Cops Invest in Care

Georgia - You have 5 months to get your voting act togetherThe eyes of the rest of America will be on you and your state. Failing to fully correct this gap runs the risk of an indeterminate election outcome for which you will be held accountable. Get OAN out of San DiegoOAN frequently runs erroneous and conspiratorial editorials and news stories. They have been rated by All Sides Media as "Low" in terms of confidence in their reporting. They recently aired a story that claimed the 75 year old protester from Buffalo New York was an agent of Antifa, and worked with China. Both claims are false and yet the President still retweeted these claims. He is a big fan of OAN and it is easy to see why when they run sycophantic and adoring stories of his more base and abhorrent actions and policies. It is time to get them out of America's finest city and send them looking for a home.62 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jeremy Walsh

Tell NASCAR: Remove ALL confederate flags from your events"No one should feel uncomfortable when they come to a NASCAR race. It starts with confederate flags," Bubba Wallace, the only Black driver in NASCAR, said. "Get them out of here. They have no place for them." In the wake of George Floyd's murder, there's a renewed effort to rid public spaces of racist symbols like the confederate flag. It's time for NASCAR to stop looking the other way on a symbol that makes Black people and those who don't support white supremacy deeply unwelcome and uncomfortable visiting its race tracks. NASCAR's majority white fan base is exactly where a conversation on racism and white supremacy needs to happen. By opposing the confederate flag, NASCAR's CEO Jim France can show that NASCAR stands on the right side of history.2,271 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Ryan Patrick

AG Barr orders attack on protesters -- must be impeachedOn June 1st, a group of peaceful protestors in D.C. -- gathered to decry the murder of George Floyd and demand justice -- were violently attacked by law enforcement officials with batons and shields, pepper spray, smoke canisters, and rubber bullets. And Attorney General William Barr gave the police the order to do it. He wanted to clear the area where protesters were demonstrating -- so that President Trump could take some photos in front of a nearby church. This is absolutely despicable. The Attorney General is supposed to uphold the Constitution and defend Americans’ liberties and safety -- but instead, Barr stripped people of their First Amendment rights and put them directly in harm’s way… all to serve Trump’s vanity. Barr has time and time again demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as Attorney General. He dropped all charges against Trump’s former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, even after Flynn pleaded guilty… he brazenly misled the public about Robert Mueller’s findings… and his Department of Justice tried to bury the whistleblower complaint that led to Trump’s impeachment. Plus, he threatened legal action against those governors who sought to enforce social distancing regulations during the COVID-19 crisis -- falling in line with Trump’s stance against these life-saving measures. That's why Common Cause called for Barr's impeachment and removal at the end of last year -- and now, we're renewing that vital call. This attack on the rights and lives of everyday Americans must be the last straw. If you agree, add your name to demand that Congress respond to Barr’s many abuses of power -- by impeaching him and removing him from office.617 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Common Cause
