Asking Rep. Sessions to support Voting RightsLast year, the Supreme Court gutted the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965. Since then, Republicans across the country have raced to implement new restrictive laws that would do exactly what the Voting Rights Act was meant to protect. But now, there's a chance to stop that. Late last week, Representatives Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and John Conyers (D-MI) and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) introduced new legislation—the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014—that would strengthen the Voting Rights Act. This bill isn't perfect but is the best vehicle we have for restoring the rights struck down by the Supreme Court last year. 1 Improving and passing this bill won't be easy. Already, critics on the right are gearing up to try to kill it, and Speaker John Boehner has yet to commit to bringing it up for a vote. 2 Despite the fact that the bill is bipartisan, it's not guaranteed to pass. We the undersigned, constituents of Pete Sessions, call on our Representative to support the right of every American to vote. We ask him to stand with Liberty and The Democratic Process; stand against raising artificial barriers between Americans and the Voting Booth. You talk a lot about Fairness and Justice. What could be more Fair or Just than every American of Legal Age voting in our Elections? We invite you to do what's right for ALL the people you swore to represent. Sincerely; Gary W. Voting Booth DemocracyOver the past four decades legislators locally and nationally have voted too often to burden middle class and under-privileged Americans with the responsibility of supporting bloated government. Creating a playing field that will guard against favoritism is the hallmark of democracy.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Arnold Colon

Ask Rep. Tim Walz to cosponsor the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014Some Republicans are looking to kill any chances of this bill even coming up for debate. The best way to prevent that is to get as much visible support early on. Already, there are nine co-sponsors of this bill—four Republicans and five Democrats. But Rep. Walz isn't one of them.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Dakota H. Swank

Sign the petition: Tell Harry Reid to stand strong against pro-war senatorsPresident Obama is trying to negotiate a peaceful solution to Iran’s nuclear program, but a bill introduced by Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) forcing devastating new sanctions against Iran could undermine those negotiations and result in military action. Even worse: 58 other senators—including 15 other Democrats—have joined with Menendez by co-sponsoring his bill. Right now, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is stopping this bill from passing. As majority leader, he has prevented this bill from coming to a vote on the floor of the Senate—effectively keeping negotiations alive and keeping war off the table for now. Sign the petition from Daily Kos, the Nation, USAction, Code Pink and Win Without War telling Harry Reid: Thank you for standing strong against pro-war senators. Please continue to stand strong and we’ll have your back.7,238 of 8,000 SignaturesCreated by Paul Hogarth
