Louisiana: Stop Fracking Up the GulfFracking is an environmental nightmare. With all of the pollution and water contamination following the oil spills in the Gulf and other bodies of water surrounding New Orleans, it is nonsensical for the government to support such drastic and pernicious drilling operations. It has been proven that fracking most often leads to water contamination from fracking fluids migrating into the ground water and into water reservoirs. In an area so dependent on its water for things like food, transportation, business, and shipping, it is SHOCKING that the government would allow drilling to jeopardize our sensitive ecosystem. My New Orleans water already smells like chlorine, there's brain-eating Naegleria fowleri amoebas in other Parishes' water, and now you want to add fracking to the equation? The iconic and ironic phrase "what could go wrong?" comes to mind.....83 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Alexandra Weinroth

Save the Performing ArtsI grew up in the performing arts, the performing arts was the one place where I felt like I truly belonged and the one place where I wasn't bullied. The performing arts teach about belonging, independence, confidence, and most importantly knowledge. A performing arts program got cut in my old neighborhood and one of my friends who was a part of it went into depression because the arts was the one place where he didn't feel worthless. He almost killed himself because he lost his one true home. I want to stop that from happening to other students across the state of Montana and maybe in the future, the whole country. So join me in trying to keep the love of music and theater within the walls of Montana schools! Help me keep the students' dreams alive through the performing arts! Help me raise awareness for what the performing arts can do for our students and our schools! Help keep Music for the Ages!!63 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Amber

make UC democraticI graduated from UC Santa Cruz. I've worked for over 10 years as staff at UC Santa Cruz. I've seen the results of corporate leadership. Classes have been added for their money making possibilities and art classes dropped for the exact opposite reasons. Journalism programs no longer exist because they promoted investigative articles about the university. Chancellors chosen because of their influence with Silicon Valley.Tuition skyrockets while UC purchases more land and buildings and pleads poverty. Creative financial maneuverings in an unethical atmosphere. This must be changed... and it starts at the top.54 of 100 SignaturesCreated by ken keegan

Reclassification in FERC for PipelinesNew interstate 36" pipelines are sited close to existing structures in Class One of FERC. The Marcellus Shale gas industry destroys our environment and renders the taxpayers property useless. Spectra/ Texas Eastern will install their pipeline next to my house starting in January 2014. There is a history of safety issues with Spectra Energy, in 2011 DOT and PHMSA inspectors sited Spectra for 17 inadequacies in its pipeline safety operations and procedures. Pipeline explosions are becoming more common. Emergency units are not equipped nor trained to handle this type of disaster. The EPA needs to gain a better understanding of emissions and potential risks from the natural gas industry. Harmful pollutants emitted from these pipelines include air toxins such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene;criteria pollutants and ozone precursors such as NOx and VOCs, greenhouse gases such as methane. These pollutants will result in serious health impacts. FERC (Federal Energy Commission) regulates every state. These rules and regulations take advantage of lower income and lower populated areas. This needs to be changed, without your signature the United States elected Officials will keep letting this happen. It must stop and you can help, by signing and sharing this petition.109 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Cyndi

Save the Delaware River from Fracking Toxins - A Petition for Artists and non-Artists ALIKEThe Delaware River has been a dramatic and constant feature of the local landscape for "a thousand, thousand years". It has been the place of life for all of the Lenape Tribes, a focal point for our Country's development as a Democracy and a part of the scenic and recreational landscape of modern society - BRINGING BEAUTY, WONDER AND AWE INTO OUR LIVES. With the drilling and fracturing of the shale flats in the river basin and environs we would be unleashing a massive force of disruption into the shale plates and introducing large quantities of undisclosed toxins into recreational and drinking water reserves - killing fish and wildlife, altering our natural beauty, destroying water that could be used for drinking, and opening a Pandora's Box of ills on future generations that will have no say in this type of energy development. We have far too many clean energy options available to us that would maintain what is left of the pristine beauty and awe of this epic piece of our natural lives. UNITE and help to stop the madness before it is too late. WE HAVE GOT TO STOP USING FOSSIL FUELS - EMITTING CARBONS - AND START USING CLEAN RENEWABLE ENERGY LIKE WIND AND SOLAR. Artists: Take the time to release pieces of your portfolios to the public that relay the deep and abiding connection between people and the land upon which we all stand. These critical chords of the sub-conscious sustain all people and we need to be reminded regularly. Nature prompts deep and abiding senses of awe, wonder, radical amazement and homeostasis. Here is my first poem on the Delaware, written in 1995 from the footbridge in Lumberville, PA. RIVER BENDING - We are not here long enough to watch the river change her shape. But she does. I have felt it. We can see her swell and dry, but we do not get to see her curl and cut and grow old. She is an old thing. She goes back a thousand, thousand years. We cannot see all the changes, but we can feel them. They are in there. Won't you sign on to our petition today to let lawmakers know we are not taking the recklessness of Fracking lightly. PLEASE READ BILL MCKIBBEN'S ARTICLE ON THE MATH OF WHERE WE ARE IN THIS GLOBAL CATASTROPHE. THESE THREE NUMBERS WILL ASTOUND YOU AND HOPEFULLY AWAKEN THE MASSES. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/global-warmings-terrifying-new-math-20120719190 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Tom Johnson-Medland

Keep fracking out of the Pikes Peak region. The way of life we cherish in the Pikes Peak region is dependent on the beauty of our natural surroundings as well as the clean water and air our children drink and breathe as they grow up here. Fracking is an issue that continues to pose a well-documented threat to our resources, and we remain vigilant about that threat.428 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Cynthia P

Tell Governor Cuomo To Raise the Age of CriminalityJuveniles focus on short-term payoffs rather than thinking through the long-term consequences of their actions. This often leads to immature, emotional, risky, aggressive and impulsive behavior or delinquent acts. The promising news is that 66-75% of juveniles grow out of their risky behaviors and become more self-controlled. Juveniles charged with crimes are usually poor, disadvantaged, and may also have mental health problems. Adolescent rehabilitation should be our top priority.63 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Carol Parker

Save our native wild horsesTaxpayers are paying for cruel native wild horse roundups in the West--where Big Oil wants to Frack for oil and natural gas--and needs water to do so. A lot of natural gas will be sold to Asia, to make electricity. During and after roundups many wild horses are injured: foals are often killed and many mares miscarry their babies. Currently 50,000 native wild horses are stockpiled in holding, at-risk of going to slaughter, and should be returned to live on public land. Less than 18,000 indigenous wild horses are estimated to be living in freedom now. The National Academy of Sciences reported there is "No Evidence" of overpopulation. www.ProtectMustangs.org has called for population studies with a moratorium on roundups yet Congress is turning a deaf ear. Is the Oil and Gas Lobby influencing our democracy? Indigenous horses fill their ecological niche on public land. They help to reverse desertification, reduce risk of wildfires and create biodiversity for many species to thrive. Please help protect our native wild horses before the herds are destroyed.4,982 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by Anne Novak

Keep Cars off the TerraceFrequently Asked Questions 1. Why is this issue important? The Hunterdon Art Museum Terrace was reopened on November 29th, after a long and costly renovation. This beautiful spot is a perfect setting for public and private events. Keeping the Terrace car-free will protect and enhance the charm of Clinton and ultimately draw more visitors who will shop, dine and enjoy our community. 2. Who owns the Terrace? The Terrace is owned by the Hunterdon Art Museum and located in downtown Clinton along the South Branch of the Raritan River. 3. Is the Terrace open to the public? The Art Museum allows free public access to the site except when the Museum is using it for private events. 4. Why is parking being considered? Parking and easy access to downtown Clinton are important issues. Prior to the recent expansion, parking was permitted on part of this site. Current approved plans call for 8 parking spaces to be constructed. When the Terrace was completed, Museum Trustees and others recognized the beauty of the Terrace and applied to the Clinton Planning Board for a variance to keep the Terrace car-free. 5. Could the Terrace still be used if parking was allowed? It could, but the space available for public use would be reduced greatly. The area where cars would park would be directly behind the best site to view the Red Mill and dam. Parking on the Terrace would create safety issues, and limit the type and scope of events that could be organized. While everyone wants more parking, the advantages of keeping the Terrace car-free far outweigh the economic benefits of 8 additional parking spots. 6. What type of public events could be held on the Terrace? We envision everything from impromptu concerts and performances to outdoor yoga classes, drum circles and story-telling sessions. The Terrace is also the perfect spot for young and old to sit by the river on a lazy summer afternoon and enjoy all that Clinton has to offer. 7. Who started this petition? The petition was started by Town of Clinton residents, not by staff and Trustees of the Hunterdon Art Museum. 8. When will the decision be made? Petitions will be presented to the Town of Clinton Council, Planning Board and Board of Adjustment on December 16th. We hope a decision will be made that night. Please consider attending and showing your support. The meeting begins at 7:00pm at the Town of Clinton Municipal Building, 43 Lehigh Street, Clinton, NJ. 9. Where can I find pictures of the Terrace? Search for Charming Clinton on Facebook to see pictures and continue the discussion. The Hunterdon Art Museum may also post pictures of the Terrace on their web site.179 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Charming Clinton

Prohibit Fracking in George Washington National ForestThe US Forest Service is to release a 15 year land use management plan for the George Washington National Forest in which they can decide to either allow or prohibit horizontal drilling. Neglecting to prohibit this drilling could lead to natural gas companies exploiting the forest through hydraulic fracturing. Fracking would put our drinking water, air, and pristine forest in danger. This is unacceptable.288 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Emily Bowman-Lipton
