• Washington State GOP U.S Reps: Protect LGBT Workers. Pass The Employment Non-Discrimination Act NOW!
My name is Brad and I live in Seattle, Washington. Here in Washington State we have laws that protect Lesbian, Gay, Bi, and Transgender people from workplace discrimination. However, In 29 other states, including my home state of Tennessee, people are fired everyday simply because of how they identify or who they love. In Congress the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) has been proposed every year since 2007, but for nearly 7 years now Congress has failed to act. It’s time to put an end to workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The Employment Nondiscrimination Act of 2013 has passed the Senate with bi-partisan support, including the support of 10 Republican Senators. That's where you come in! Not every bill actually makes it to the floor of the House of Representatives. In fact, many bills die in committee because the Speaker of the House refuses to let them have a vote. But with your help, we can put pressure on our Washington State Representatives to ask that this bill be brought to a vote. It's what we believe is the right thing for Washington State, it's the right thing for our country, and our representatives should express their support in Congress. Please stand with me and millions of LGBT Americans in asking the Washington State GOP Congressional Delegation to support House Bill H.R. 1755, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act today!

  • Stop Donating to Salvation Army
My petition is that my beliefs in donations should not be made in the public eye but in privet as the bible says in Matthew 6:1-4 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

  • Shelters For The Disabled in NYC
As a homeless disabled victim of abuse, I am living proof that the disabled community's most basic needs such as shelter and safety are being ignored to the point of neglect and abuse. I am heartened by Mayor deBlasio's campaign promises to address income inequality in our city, which is why I felt compelled to start this petition to see a change in how revenue is invested so that the least fortunate are treated with a modicum of dignity.

  • Immigration Reform Now!!
In our mid-western town we have a large number of Hispanics. Our local United Methodist Church has sponsored a Hispanic Church for many years. About 5 years ago we brought a Hispanic minister and his whole congregation under our auspices and they all joined the United Methodist Church. The Hispanic minister has been in the US for over 10 years and has been a very positive influence in the community. Recently the United Methodist Conference of our state discovered he does not have a green card even though he has been trying to get one for 10 years. Now the Church feels they can no longer support him nor let his family live in the parsonage. For persons like this we need IMMIGRATION REFORM NOW!!!

  • President Obama: Meet with Walmart Strikers
On November 7th, more than 50 Walmart workers and community supporters were arrested while committing an act of peaceful civil disobedience to challenge Walmart on its low wages. The day before, Walmart workers in Los Angeles went on strike to protest the company’s illegal retaliation against workers who have come together to speak out for fair wages, adequate hours and respect in the workplace. This is just the first of the actions Walmart can expect throughout the holiday season and on Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year. While we’re keeping the pressure up at stores and in the streets, we need your help to take this fight to the next level. That’s why I’m asking you to join me in calling on President Obama to meet with us, the Walmart workers who are challenging America’s largest private employer to do better. The day President Obama was inaugurated I, like many others, felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and hope. As a 60-year-old African American woman who marched with Martin Luther King Jr., I felt like we were closer to realizing King’s dream of good jobs and freedom. Today, we may not have segregation by law, but we have it in practice thanks to the economic realities of our country. For people regardless of race or upbringing to sit at the same lunch counter, they have to be able to afford the same lunch. Walmart, the country’s largest employer, is helping to hold America back from this dream. Like too many Americans, I cannot promise my grandchildren that they will have a brighter future than I had – in our country a small elite is actively impoverishing the vast majority. More-and-more of us are struggling to nourish our children and to pay our bills. Dynasties like the Waltons, the richest offspring in America, hoard a bundle in cash equal to what 42% of every man, woman, and child in this country have combined. Walmart boasts $16 billion in worker-generated-profits and can afford to stop derailing our economy. At an event in 2008, then-candidate Obama said, “I don't mind standing up for workers and letting Walmart know they need to pay a decent wage and let folks organize. …This is about reminding [Walmart] that… the well-being of their workers and other workers should matter to them.” Our country is at a crossroads. Although our economy has started to improve especially for those on Wall St., many of us are still left without jobs or scrambling to survive on the much lower wages employers get away with offering. It’s time for the President to meet with Walmart workers like me who are standing up to Walmart and hear about the reality of scraping by on Main Street.

  • To Speaker John Boehner: Bring ENDA up for a vote in the House. No one should be fired because of...
It’s hard to believe, but under federal law, it’s still legal to fire someone because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Making history, the U.S. Senate has now passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) on a strong bipartisan vote. It's time for the U.S. House to join the Senate, and protect every American worker by finally passing ENDA. No one should lose their job because of who they love. Bring the bill up for a vote, Speaker Boehner.

  • President Obama: End Border Patrol's Pro-Murder Policy
President Obama needs to rein in the murderous tendencies of his Border Patrol. Last year, Border Patrol killed a 16 year old Mexican boy named José Antonio Elena Rodríguez who was accused of throwing rocks over the fence at the US-Mexico border. Local police said there was little chance the rocks ever would’ve hit someone on the other side, but that didn’t stop Border Patrol from shooting him 11 times -- at least 10 of those times in the back. Since then, a government-commissioned independent review board recommended that Border Patrol end the practice of responding to rock throwing with gunfire. Border Patrol refused. Since 2010, Border Patrol killed Jose Antonio and seven other people in rock throwing incidents. They’ve killed 18 people total in alleged excessive force incidents in the same timeframe. Border Patrol has a serious problem, and it’s time for President Obama to take control of the out of control agency. Responding to rocks with gunfire is not self-defense -- in the face of a rock attack Border Patrol agents have numerous options including tactical engagement so that agents can be safe when approaching a scenario or control the area from further back. When the Administration agreed to review its use of force policies earlier this year, it seemed like real change was imminent. Now it just looks like another cheap public relations move. The Obama Administration’s decision threatens to destroy the thin trust developed between border communities and the Department of Homeland Security. We demand real change at the border -- the Obama administration must respect human life. Please sign our petition calling on President Obama to stop Border Patrol from using deadly force against rock throwers at the border.

  • Rep. Pittenger Support H.R. 15
Now is the time for our members of congress to stop dragging their feet and support a comprehensive immigration reform that will help millions of families to come out of the shadows and fully participate in our communities. On October 27, California Congressman Jeff Denham did what many thought impossible. As a Republican, he decided to put families over politics and signed on to the comprehensive immigration reform bill H.R. 15. This is an opportunity for Representative Pittenger to do the same. We need Rep. Pittenger to also be a leader and put families over politics. A recent Harper Polling report states that 69% of North Carolinians support immigration reform in principal. The same report says that 74% of North Carolinians believe that Congress should enact immigration reform this year. Also, 48% of respondents said they were less likely to support an elected official who opposed reform, compared with just 20% who were more likely to support a reform opponent. According to a study published last month by the political research group Latino Decisions, because of changing demographics, Rep. Pittenger is in danger of losing his congressional seat in 2014, if he does not support comprehensive immigration reform. • Twitter: Don't Play Tricks with Your Taxes
Twitter just barely became a publicly traded company -- but it's already finding new ways to dodge its taxes. A tax loophole might let it deduct $154 million from its taxes, for buying stock options for its leaders -- but it only spent $7 million on those options. Don't let Twitter get a tax deduction that is 20 times what it actually spent. Tell CEO Dick Costolo not to exploit this loophole.
