The Los Angeles Times recently announced that it will no longer publish letters to the editor that deny the basic reality of climate change. It's time for the Oakland Tribune, and papers across the country, to follow suit. For too long the media has perpetuated false balance around climate change. Letters pages should be a place for reasoned debate, not conspiracy theories. As LA Times Letters Editor Paul Thornton explained: "Simply put, I do my best to keep errors of fact off the letters page ... Saying 'there's no sign humans have caused climate change' is not stating an opinion, it's asserting a factual inaccuracy."

In response to several Republican governors and legislatures refusing to extend benefits to same-sex marriage partners of Guard members, we want the President to order the Secretary of Defense to nationalize, under authority granted by the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act of 2007, all Guard units in those states which refuse to comply with the law.

My son was sexually abused when he was eight years old by a sitters son, he dealt with guilt and shame for 10 years but said nothing about this until he was contemplating suicide at the age of eighteen. By the time my son had the courage to tell what had happened to him,the statue of limitation had run out and he could not prosecute the person who did this. My son was robbed of his innocence and his childhood was destroyed, today he still has a hard time living a normal life. No child should have to endure what he did but even worse then this the person who did this should not get away with what he did. Please support this petition, it might be too late for my son but may help another child going forward.

In the past 30 years conservation easements have been used extensively to protect and enhance soil, water, and wildlife. This is a very serius blow to conservation in Minnesota. This law is sure to stop much of the water quality/quantity, and wildlife work being done on privately owned lands in Minnesota. Landowers will be punished for their good behavior and their interest in conservaiton by continuing to be taxed at a cropland rate.

I support the House of Pride, which provides low-cost housing, meals, and a number of essential resources on a daily basis to disadvantaged members of the Dover community. As of late, the City of Dover has increased its efforts to dismantle the House of Pride as it moves forward with plans to drive African Americans out of the surrounding downtown area to attract investors for redevelopment projects. Reports of excessive police force and discriminatory housing practices have proliferated in recent months. This type of racially motivated behavior can no longer be tolerated.

House Democrats have broken Speaker John Boehner's deadlock and introduced an immigration bill with a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million without papers. So far, over 190 members of Congress have signed on as cosponsors! But in order to get this bill past the finish line, we're going to need more Republican support. Your district's representative in the House, Congressman Richard Hanna, is part of the group of House Republicans who are open to immigration reform. His support for this new bill could be the tipping point for our movement. If he becomes a part of the growing group of Republicans who have already cosponsored this bill, we know more of his colleagues in his party will build up the courage to follow. We know Rep. Hanna is ready to listen to you and our movement. We already have a good bill waiting in the House, and we just need to get Rep. Hanna to stand by all immigrants -- not just some. He needs to join the more than 190 House members and cosponsor this new immigration bill! We need you and other advocates in your district to pressure Rep. Hanna into supporting this bill. If we get Rep. Hanna on board, your district could make all the difference for the millions without papers across the nation. The momentum is on our side because enough votes exist in the House to pass reform today. But instead Speaker Boehner hides behind excuses, delays, and flat-out refuses to give us a vote. We've come too far to stop now. Tell Rep. Hanna to stand up for all immigrants by cosponsoring this new immigration bill in the House and passing the path to citizenship for the 11 million!
