Petition to re-evaluate the “card” system to better promote academic achievement. My public high school uses an ID system in which each student is issued a certain color of card. Gold and platinum cards are privilege cards and red cards are not. Poorly based off of "grades and attendance" has left many 4.0 students with red cards for missing 1 day to go visit a college.139 of 200 SignaturesCreated by James

Bring the Bottle Bill to MarylandOur waterways, neighborhoods and parks are littered with bottles and cans and Maryland’s recycling rate is far below the national average. The Bottle Bill would set up a 5 cent redeemable deposit on bottles and cans - we know this works because 10 other states have done it and they’ve all seen major increases in recycling and reductions in litter. We want to deliver 8,000 signatures to Governor O'Malley this fall so he hears loud and clear: We want a Maryland Bottle Bill.181 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Emily Scarr, Maryland PIRG

Attn: YouTube and FacebookA photo uploaded to Facebook this past Friday has gone viral due to its racist and disrespectful tenor. A trio of young Floridians appear in the image, a woman flanked by two men, with the two men unabashedly wearing handmade Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman Halloween costumes. The Zimmerman costume consists of a black "neighborhood watch" t-shirt while the Martin costume includes black face and a blood stained grey hooded sweatshirt. In addition, the Zimmerman character has fashioned his hand into a gun and is pointing it at Martin's head. Your policies state: •We encourage free speech and defend everyone's right to express unpopular points of view. But we don't permit hate speech (speech which attacks or demeans a group based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, and sexual orientation/gender identity). Hate Speech "Hate speech" refers to content that promotes hatred against members of a protected group. For instance, racist or sexist content may be considered hate speech. Sometimes there is a fine line between what is and what is not considered hate speech. For instance, it is generally okay to criticize a nation, but not okay to make insulting generalizations about people of a particular nationality. Help Lee & McGovern End the War in AfghanistanThe Obama Administration is trying to get an agreement with the government of Afghanistan that would keep thousands of U.S. troops there after 2014, constantly exposed to mortal danger. No U.S. commitment to keep thousands of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan beyond 2014 should be allowed without prior Congressional debate and authorization, consistent with the Congressional role in making decisions about war envisioned by the Constitution and the War Powers Resolution. Congress didn’t allow the Administration to bomb Syria without Congressional authorization; Congress shouldn’t allow the Administration to keep thousands of U.S. troops in Afghanistan without Congressional authorization. Urge President Obama to go to Congress for explicit approval before making any commitment to keep thousands of U.S. troops in Afghanistan, and urge Congress to insist on a Congressional debate and vote before any such commitment takes place.24,239 of 25,000 SignaturesCreated by Robert Naiman

Pima County (AZ) Board of Supervisors: Don’t let people who shouldn’t have guns buy them on Count...People who are unable to pass a background check can obtain guns legally at gun shows held at the County Fairgrounds by buying from unlicensed sellers (private sales). This "loophole" makes it possible for people who shouldn't have guns to bring them into our neighborhoods, carry them openly anywhere in Arizona, and sell them to others. By allowing this to happen on public, County property, the County is promoting an unsafe situation. Tell the County Supervisors: Don’t let people who shouldn’t have guns buy them on County property!374 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Tucson Community Against Gun Violence

New skatepark in SearcyMost of us skaters can not get all the way out to the skatepark we currently have. The current skatepark we have breaks a lot and does not conform to all of our skating styles. Most of the skaters in Searcy skate around business' of downtown Searcy. If we had a skatepark that was in downtown Searcy it would keep us out of the local business' way.12 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jesse Cross

Rep. Amash: Please Cosponsor the New House Immigration BillHouse Democrats have broken Speaker John Boehner's deadlock and introduced an immigration bill with a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million without papers. So far, over 180 House Democrats have signed on as cosponsors! But in order to get this bill past the finish line, we're going to need Republican support. The good news is that it's there. Your district's representative in the House, Congressman Justin Amash, is one of the 29 House Republicans who support immigration reform with a path to citizenship. His support for this new bill could be the tipping point for our movement. If he becomes a part of the growing group of Republicans who have already cosponsored this bill, we know more of his colleagues in his party will build up the courage to follow. We know Rep. Amash is ready to listen to you and our movement. In fact, this past summer, Rep. Amash said, “You have to find a way to give [immigrants] legal status over a long period of time. If they want to obtain citizenship, they’re not put ahead of anyone else. They’re treated like anyone else who came here legally.” But it’s just not enough. We already have a good bill waiting in the House, and we just need to get Rep. Amash to stand by his words and come to our side. He needs to join the more than 180 House members and cosponsor this new immigration bill! We need you and other advocates in your district to pressure Rep. Amash into supporting this bill. If we get Rep. Amash on board, your district could make all the difference for the millions without papers across the nation. The momentum is on our side because enough votes exist in the House to pass reform today. But instead Speaker Boehner hides behind excuses, delays, and flat-out refuses to give us a vote. We've come too far to stop now. Tell Rep. Amash to stand up for his district by cosponsoring this new immigration bill in the House and passing the path to citizenship for the 11 million!380 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Matt Hildreth
