Children need their fathers and many of us are being pushed aside antiquated laws and ideas about men not being able to nurture. We must act and allow fathers like myself to have consistent involvement with their children regardless of the relationship with the mother.

It is obvious that the Nuclear Power industry is insolvent. The upcoming Waste Confidence ruling, Senate bill S1240 funneling escrow waste money back to the nuclear industry through the new "Nuclear Waste Administration", and the upcoming ruling on Foreign Ownership of our Nuclear Reactors are strong indication that we need citizen activist participation on the commission and a FULL accounting of this heavily citizen subsidized industry.

Isn't it unnecessary to destroy a mature fir tree every year for the holidays at Rockefeller Center? Shouldn't the city transplant a permanent fir tree and leave it there? That way the city's tree would always be taller than the previous year and no more wonderful mature trees would have to die! It would be the perfect symbolic act given the Mayor's Million trees NYC initiative.

Given the GOP's intransigence and refusal to act on immigration reform, unless President Obama exercises his executive authority to protect and begin a legalization process, the 11 million undocumented immigrants will continue to face family separation and massive deportations that already exceed 2 million under his 5-year administration, notwithstanding that they contribute significantly to the U.S. economy, tax-base and the workforce.

Fracking kills. It poisons our water and creates vast regions of desolation from man-made earthquakes. It is financed by corporations that wield a dangerous amount of influence and control over our lawmakers. These corporations care nothing for the welfare of their workers or for the people who live in communities devastated by fracking. We reject their power and we reject all forms of fracking!

The canyon communities have been fighting to preserve the historic 320-acre Holtz Ranch in Silverado Canyon for over 30 years. St. Michael's Abbey proposes to develop a Monastery/Church/Sanctuary, Convent, Private Boarding School/Dormitories, Gymnasium/Athletic Facilities, Guest Cottages, Chapel/Cemetery, Agricultural Maintenance Buildings, and accessory gift shop, which threaten the Silverado-Modjeska Specific Plan, critical habitat for the endangered arroyo toad, cactus wren and meadowlark habitat, Native American archaeological sites, historic orchard, historic agricultural buildings, dark sky, road safety, air quality, and the overall quality of life for canyon residents. Measure M funds were almost used to acquire this property as permanent open space because OCTA recognized Holtz Ranch as a top tier property for its natural and cultural resource mitigation value. Now the county has reversed its opinion as a favor to St. Michael's Abbey, an exempt religious institution. The county has an opportunity to preserve the historic 320-acre Holtz Ranch as a natural and cultural landmark for the benefit of everyone.
