The Fukushima nuclear meltdown was nearly THREE years ago and while we WAIT for Japan to handle the crisis, over 300 tons DAILY of radioactive water hemorrhages into our ocean, killing and contaminating every living thing in its path. This is unacceptable. It is now known that this is far worse (over 300 times say some scientists) than Chernobyl. Life as we ALL knew it before 3/11/11 is now OVER. If this were chemical warfare against children we would risk life and limb to assist. It IS chemical warfare as we do little while children in Japan fight for their lives against an invisible chemical opponent. 40% of them in the Fukushima area are experiencing toxic radioactive levels and some are now being diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Mr. President: We ask that you move mountains if necessary to help shut this down. Mobilize a large U.S. team, request nuclear scientists globally to network and assist, whatever it takes. But for the health of all, insist that Japan receive this desperately needed support. We MUST be able to handle reactor meltdowns and nuclear waste effectively or we have no business creating NEW nuclear power plants around the country! If you can't FIX IT, don't BUILD IT!

The Klamath National Forest is in charge of a critical biodiversity “hotspot” in Northern California that extends well into Southern Oregon: the SISKIYOU CREST. This petition asks the Forest Service to close and revegetate with native plants Forest Service Road 47N80, otherwise known as the Bee Camp Road. The Bee Camp Road is long defunct, boulder strewn and barely drivable, mostly by ATVs. Built to access the chromium mines in Hello Canyon in the 1940's, it is now a useless invasion of wild country. The Bee Camp Road begins at Cook and Green Pass and heads west paralleling the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), and surrounded by roadless wildland on all sides. The road is adjacent to the Cook and Green Pass Botanical Area and the Seiad Baker Cypress Botanical Area. The area is designated "back country" by the Klamath National Forest, and all Forest Service management direction in the area emphasizes backcountry and botanical values, wildlife, late successional reserves, and non-motorized recreation. The Bee Camp Road represents an obstacle for wilderness designation; it is a seed source for noxious and non-native weeds; it disrupts the feeling of solitude and isolation in the Red Buttes Wilderness, the Kangaroo Roadless Area, and on the PCT. It also disturbs the abundant wildlife in the area because the road allows access for motorized vehicles, poachers, and others who seek to do harm. The Red Buttes region is the wild central core of the Siskiyou Crest, with the Condrey Mountain Roadless Area to the east and the Siskiyou Wilderness to the west. The Bee Camp Road is the only road still open to vehicular use from Cook and Green Pass to Sundown Gap, a distance of approximately 20 miles. I am starting this petition because our local news coverage does not inform us of what exactly each legislator is doing on important legislation. We only get general statement like, 'we need to stop spending so much;, or 'we need to present a strong image around the world.' All citizens have the right to hear each elected officials reasoning and the way they actually voted on important bills.

Save the Beartooth front! We, the citizens of South-Central Montana and others who love to travel here, declare that we will NOT stand by and allow our beloved landscape to be fracked for oil and gas. We do not need or want anything akin to the Bakken disaster in OUR backyard. Petition Background The opening of Navigator and Rocketship Charters would negatively impact our STUDENTS and neighborhood schools as follows: •The opening of a Rocketship Charter will immediately close one of our neighborhood schools. This would likely cause boundary changes. All other elementary sites will be forced to consolidate, resulting in massive student and teacher reassignments from their current neighborhood schools. •Rocketship will use its associated construction company Launch Pad to build on a 1.6 acre site on Church and San Pedro (behind World Gas Station). Our MHUSD sites follow the minimum 10 acre guideline. Using non-profit bonds to build a high density school that will immediately cause one of our neighborhood schools to close and remain vacant is not a good plan for our neighborhoods. •The opening of a Navigator Charter will cause two schools to share the same campus: a charter school and a current neighborhood school. The disparity of resources between the schools will negatively impact the neighborhood school students. •Navigator and Rocketship primarily focus on English, Math, and obsolete California State Test Scores by narrowing or eliminating History, Science, Foreign Language, Music and Art. •At Navigator and Rocketship, large groups of students spend 1.5 to 2 hours daily in front of computers supervised by tutor/aides rather than teachers. •At Rocketship, an average school of 450 students have 10 teachers (1:45 ratio, 1 teacher for 45 students). This is not the ratio that we want in our schools. In Morgan Hill, our current ratio is 1:29. We prefer to reduce class sizes, not raise them. •Due to the application process, Navigator and Rocketship will not serve all students or even a representative population of our district. They serve English Language Learners very close to proficiency. They require high parent participation. These charters also serve far fewer students with disabilities. If students are not successful, or the charter does not have appropriate programs, these students are returned to our neighborhood public schools. •Our neighborhood schools will receive less funding and this would negatively impact every campus in our district including programs such as Jackson Academy of Math and Music, our Dual-Immersion Multicultural Education Program and planned technology and science academies for P.A. Walsh and San Martin-Gwinn Elementary Schools. •75% of Rocketship teachers are Teach for America interns. These interns have only 5 weeks of teacher preparation. 99% of MHUSD teachers are required to have 1-3 years of post-graduate teacher education. I am on Social Security. It's not an "entitlement." I have paid into Social Security all of my working life. And so have you! Do not let the federal government steal our money! Social Security is solvent. It should not be touched. Let the government take money from the bloated Pentagon budget, or from corporations that pay no taxes.

Once again they are talking of a GRAND BARGAIN that will cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. The middle class and the poor have been hammered for the last 30 years. It is time to reverse the trend and insure that all the citizen of the United States can have a measure of security and dignity.
