• WKLE-46, Local Viewers Want to See The Documentary Citizen Koch
Citizen Koch is an extremely revealing documentary by Academy Award-nominated filmmakers regarding corruption in our government. It was originally pulled due to the desire to avoid upsetting major PBS donor David Koch. As a public television station, WKLE (and the other PBS stations), doesn't answer to people like the Koch brothers, but instead to the viewers. The fears of upsetting a rich donor should come second to journalistic integrity. Please help me call for a national broadcast of "Citizen Koch."

  • President Gamble: Bring Back The Dance
The dances thrown by the school are being cut this year due to "low attendance". Attendance at the dances is one of the highest attendance rates of events on campus. As a double major in the College of Fine Arts, there are few events on campus that fit into my schedule that allow me to socialize with students from other colleges. By not funding the dances, students are going to be less likely to attend other events on campus. This "low attendance" of other events is going to cause more and more events to be cut from our extracurricular schedules until we have nothing but fraternity parties to attend.

  • Private Prisons Are NOT the Answer to California's Overcrowded Prisons
Over the past 30 years, for-profit prison companies have reaped billions in profits from the mass incarceration and detention of human beings while earning a track record marred with mismanagement, human rights abuses, and indifference for the health and safety of those incarcerated in their facilities. At a time when many states are walking away from outsourced prisons, California Governor Jerry Brown is seeking to expand the use of for-profit prisons to alleviate the state's current prison overcrowding crisis. Join us in urging Governor Brown to invest in sustainable solutions to mass incarceration in California and NOT in private prison companies that profit from pain!

  • Chess in Schools
Our children can only benefit from learning and playing chess. Over five hundred students learn and improve their thinking, choices analysis, and socialization at the Purple Sage Elementary School. While there are chess programs scattered throughout the district, there is, currently, no funding and organization on the district level. Consider what a district wide program would accomplish!

  • KTCA-TV 2-Saint Paul: Air the documentary Citizen Koch!
"Citizen Koch" was pulled from a national public television broadcast because of fear of upsetting David Koch, who has been a major donor to public television. But public television stations should answer to viewers like me, not to billionaires like the Koch brothers -- and I want to see this important documentary. Will you join the call for a national broadcast of "Citizen Koch" on Independent Lens?

  • Say "No!" to US strikes on Syria!
I am disappointed that President Obama seems to be repeating the mistakes of former President Bush. I voted for President Obama because I believed it was time for a change in our foreign policy from bluster to bolster, from aggression to assertion, from waging indiscriminate wars to fighting for peace and I thought this was a change President Obama believed in. I want to remind him that people still do believe in the necessity of that kind of change. And he needs reminding quickly--BEFORE American weapons are used against the people of Syria.

  • Tell Congress: No military action in Syria without prior congressional authorization
If you’ve read the headlines, you’ve heard we’re heading towards military action in Syria — with some U.S. military officials saying a missile strike could happen any time. Congress has not authorized any such military strike and the President has not given any indication he is going to seek such authorization. Please ask Congress to stand with Rep. Barbara Lee who recently said that “Congress needs to have a full debate before the United States commits to any military force in Syria – or elsewhere.” Tell Congress: No military action in Syria without prior Congressional authorization. In the United States Constitution, the power to declare war is expressly in the hands of Congress. The President is able to take military action in emergency cases of self-defense, but that does not appear to be the case with Syria. Tell Congress: No military action in Syria without prior Congressional authorization. It’s crucial for Americans who care about Congressional war powers to speak up. Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine said, “Absent an imminent threat to United States national security, the U.S. should not be engaged in military action without Congressional approval.” We agree 100%. If you do too, please write your member of Congress now.

  • Make our Military Uniforms in the U.S.A.
It is foolish to pay other countries to do things that we can do ourselves at a time when our economy needs the growth.

  • Another $1 million per day war?
The US Economy demands attention from the Obama administration. Escalating our military presence in the Middle East will not make Americans safer, nor will benefit our economy. Americans deserve sincere attention to make them safer, and support a realistic opportunity to earn a living wage. Consistent commitment to military action in the Middle East in the guise of National Security is going to make the US less safe and bankrupt our country.

  • Say "No!" to US strikes on Syria!
According to news reports, President Obama is poised to send air strikes to Syria. This type of action will neither protect nor defend the population. The U.S. public does not support military intervention.

  • President Obama's Big Chance
I was raised by a father who suffered both from emphysema caused by gasing and from PTSD caused by his very active service in WW I. I knew many who suffered greatly in WW II, and at 92 I don't know personally those who fought and are fighting In Iraq and Afghanistan, but I read about their suffering when they have come home. I fear greatly that using the military option in response to the use of gas in Syria will lead to a still more explosive situation in the middle east. And I am also a friend of Israel, though I often deplore the actions of it's government, and it is likely to suffer from any escalation of the violence in the Middle East.
