• KEEP FUEGO BY SOSA'S CIGARS OPEN IN DOWNTOWN DISNEY!
Downtown Disney is changing and they will be closing Fuego by Sosa's Cigars at the end of September. Here the older generation as well as the younger, (but over 21) generation get to experience the nostalgia of days gone by, where people from all over the world come to unwind and enjoy a drink and a Cigar in a friendly, welcoming, fun atmosphere! The Sosa family has been in the cigar-making business for more than 70 years! Fuego by Sosa's Cigars most definitely fits into Disney's new format perfectly, so to not have them be part of all of the new changes would be a huge mistake! Please show your support, Don't let Disney close their doors by not renewing Fuego's lease! Please sign this petition and let Disney know that you want Fuego to remain open and be part of the new "Disney Springs" right where they belong!

Treasury should act as soon as possible to protect America’s good credit by using Platinum Coin Seigniorage (PCS) well before any risk of default becomes imminent. Protecting the full faith and credit of the United States is not the sole responsibility of Congress, but the responsibility of the Secretary of the Treasury too, because the Secretary has the authority under the law to order the US Mint to use PCS to fill the Mint's Public Enterprise Fund (PEF) account, and ultimately the Treasury General Account with enough reserves to make the debt limit a dead letter, by paying down the debt subject to the limit to zero gradually, as it falls due, and to use additional seigniorage to fund current and future deficit spending appropriated by Congress.

  • The benevolent, powerful and wealthy USA should use nonviolent intervention to aid Syria
President Obama is considering using violence to respond to and prevent further chemical weapons attacks in Syria. This is on the same day that he is extolling the messages of Dr. Martin Luther King, who ironically was a man of peace and nonviolence. The USA is a mighty, wealthy and benevolent country. Most Americans are good-hearted individuals wanting to help others in need. Let's use our power to do good that will be sustained in Syria. Let's provide gas masks to the people, let's increase humanitarian aid to the refugees, let's deliver more goods and supplies, especially medications to the Syrian hospitals. In that way, we 'take action,' but take it in a way that hurts no one, and helps everyone. We must not choose sides in this Civil War, and under no circumstances should we insult the legacy and the dreams of Dr. King by responding to violence with more violence. Thank you for your consideration.

  • Gov. Kasich: Protecting Our Kids from Pollution Shouldn't Get You Fired!
A longtime leader of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency says he was forced by Ohio Governor John Kasich to resign due to pressure from the coal industry. But now he is fighting for his job, and we can help. In a letter to his colleagues announcing his resignation, George Elmaraghy wrote, “There has been considerable pressure from the coal companies over the last year for the division staff to accommodate the industry’s needs by issuing permits that may have a negative impact on Ohio’s streams and wetlands and violate state and federal laws.” Unless Gov. Kasich intervenes immediately, Mr. Elmaraghy’s last day could be on September 13. We need to send a strong message now that coal companies do not appoint EPA officials. Mr. Elmaraghy has devoted nearly 40 years of his working life to protecting Ohio families from pollution. He does not want to stop working for Ohio. He wrote, “I do not want to retire. I want to stay and do my job for the citizens and the environment of Ohio.” As a father and elected official, I know each decision I make must leave my community a healthier, safer, more viable home for my children and all of the children of Ohio. A state with contaminated watersheds is not healthy for my family, nor the families of hardworking Ohioans -- including those that may work in the coal industry. Energy companies should not have a role in choosing who approves and denies project permits. But Gov. Kasich said the Ohio EPA was “going to send a message to Ohio that we are open for business” when he named Scott Nally, George Elmaraghy’s boss, to head the agency shortly after winning his election in 2010. And, Gov. Kasich has received over $500,000 from coal interests for his campaigns. My children mean more to me than profit margins. I want a watchdog that is free to protect the public commons, not subservient to the Governor's campaign benefactors. Tell Governor Kasich we cannot put coal industry profits over the health and well-being of our children, grandchildren, environment and communities. George Elmaraghy has been standing up for the well-being of Ohio children and families throughout his life. It’s time for us to stand up for him. Thank you for joining me in taking action! Sincerely, Mayor (and father) Trevor Elkins Newburgh Heights, Ohio

  • Help the homeless families
There has been a surge of homeless families for many different reasons ranging from fire to foreclosure. Someone needs to start opening family oriented shelters so families can stay united instead of torn apart. I have always realized this and now I have the tools to ask for help to save families from this ordeal.

  • Wildland Firefighter Protection Act (H.R. 2858)
I have been a federal seasonal wildland firefighter since 2007. I have fought fires in 8 states and worked on hand crews, engine crews and helicopter crews. For decades wildland firefighters have quietly endured some of the most adversely dangerous and difficult working conditions. We love our jobs, but all we ask is to be properly recognized, to be treated fairly, and to be compensated and looked after in a manner that is consistent with other firefighters around the nation. It doesn't seem right to me that people that prepare espresso have comparable wages and better benefits than those who regularly risk their lives for life and property.

  • Companies Cannot Be Held Liable for Giving Away Excess Food
Companies throughout the U.S.A throw away 40% of the nation's food each day-- hotels, grocery stores, restaurants, etc. pile food into the garbage. Meanwhile, U.S. federal tax dollars in the 2012 fiscal year added up to $74.6 billion in food assistance (aka "food stamps" or "EBT"), while California state taxes paid $6.8 million-- this does not include county provisions-- which vary. The reason businesses aren't legally able to give away excess food (if a restaurant meses up an order or a package gets damaged at a food store) to hungry individuals in need, & that furthermore they lock their dumpsters to prevent "theft", is that they can be held legally accountable if that person gets sick. For this reason, food industry workers (at restaurants, hotels, grocery stores) often reluctantly throw away food (sometimes large amounts) while looking out their business windows only to watch others begging for spare change to eat. Removing this liability from companies his will help take the strain off of churches & charities who give everything they have & still fail to provide nutritious foods, & are often now suffering from "Donor fatigue" themselves. This petition seeks to alleviate & end a blatant injustice.

  • No military action in Syria without UN or NATO approval.
We are not a rogue nation. We should not take military action against another country without the support of either the U.N. or N.A.T.O. This type of action did not work in Iraq or Afganistan (or Viet Nam). We need to find other solutions: i.e., stop the flow of $ to both sides; give humanitarian aid only; increase and maintain diplomatic pressure; use technology to educate. War is not the answer.

  • Investigate Goldman Sachs
SEC is the most corrupt organization Big financial institutions like J.P.Morgan and Goldman Sachs still continue to involve in naked Shorting and Criminal shorting procedures. For example: Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) a leading chip maker recently posted very good Q2 and also forward looking statements for the Q3 Goldman Sachs have a very large short position. We really don't know when they will cover. We have written to the SEC, FINRA about the illegal shorting of shares by Goldman Sachs. Since Goldman Sachs has influence with Democrats and Republicans, no action had been taken by SEC. We suspect SEC and senate members are involved in this illegal shorting of shares through Hedgefunds and financial institutions. A number of leading analysts have posted positive reviews on AMD and have raised projection targets, but the shares have not moved at all. THe criminal shorting continues with no cover date posted anywhere. The company had been posting all great products, but the financial institutions are spreading false rumor through many different sites and keeping the share prices down. Goldman Sachs downgraded and had short positions with AMD Then, there were articles everywhere that AMD's chip Kaveri will be delayed. That caused the companies share prices to lose 5% in one day. AMD clearly called those rumors as not true, and Goldman Sachs and the hedgefunds that had short positions continued to manipulate through different source: Digitimes Again AMD shares dropped another 3% http://seekingalpha.com/article/1661062-amd-digitimes-rumor-not-relevant-to-investors?source=yahoo Again, AMD clearly told investors that the rumors are false. Now, IDC research data published an article on slowing PC sales and the timing of the article clearly suggest that the Market Makers and hedge funds including Goldman Sachs are continuing to short and degrade the value of AMD. http://www.marketwatch.com/story/pc-growth-also-slowing-in-emerging-markets-idc-2013-08-29?siteid=yhoof2 How long will this nonsense continue? We want SEC to investigate Digitimes, IDC, and Motley fool. Individual investors are creamed every single time and no one is there is to take any action. We have written to the White house and even the president is silent about it. Goldman Sachs has been involved in this criminal practice for a very long time. Naked Shorting is still there. SEC have done nothing. We demand action for 1. Who is involved in this criminal shorting other than Goldman Sachs 2. The company has posted improved projection sales and revenue, and an average of 20 million shares are traded every day and the stock price has not moved an inch. Who is behind this criminal manipulation Why is the White house silent on Goldman Sachs? When will they take action? WE DEMAND ACTION IMMEDIATELY - not after 5 or 6 weeks or after 6 months. We need SEC to investigate TRADES IMMEDIATELY and all connections to Goldman must be investigated. SEC complaint:Reference Number: TCR1377896536827

  • Reform the Criminal Justice System
My petition demands that Congress put justice back in our criminal justice system by fundamentally reevaluating why and how we convict and incarcerate -- and the best ways we can empower people who have been incarcerated to succeed once they rejoin society. But criminal justice goes beyond just prisons. Since 1980, the number of people under community supervision -- either probation or parole -- has risen by more than 250%. More than 7 million people live under supervision of the criminal justice system. Without programs to help offenders rehabilitate, reintegrate, and stay in touch with their families, offenders are more likely to reoffend and take another trip through this ineffective, revolving-door system that costs us $74 billion per year. But more devastating are the impacts on the inmates' children and families. Not only do they lose the income and direct support from their incarcerated parents, but innocent children who have a parent in prison also suffer emotional trauma, social stigma, and destruction of their familial relationships. We can do better, and we've started to in Newark with smarter reentry programs. But our cities and towns can't do this alone. The federal government must reform the system where it controls it, and support innovation at the local level.

  • Stay out of Syria
We the undersigned here by agree that Syria is a sovereign nation, it's internal affairs it's own. While We completely agree that the use of chemical Weapons is heinous and disgusting, the use of surgical military strikes or any other kind of military intervention in Syria would have far more widespread consequences in the short and long term and while it does not directly affect us at this time, it will in the near future. Possibly resulting in a larger regional conflict or worse. A conflict which could make the use of chemical weapons seem trivial in comparison. We cannot afford another war with the current economic climate when The United States of America and The United Kingdom are facing hard enough times now.
