Put highly skilled unemployed educators back to work in 2013-2014Various factors contribute to highly competent teachers’ unemployment. New teachers are laid off go for budgetary or other factors. Conversely, there are examples of very knowledgeable and skilled professional status (tenured) educators like myself who are out of work. Students and families can use these educators’ talents. Please put these educators back to work in the fall!33 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Nekita Lamour

A VOICE FOR THE CHILDRENThis is to make all residents of Florida aware that in a custody case children have no voice. There best interests are not taken into consideration. We can change this by demanding that all children have legal representation through the Guardian Ad Litem Foundation. Every other state has law Guardian's for children involved in a custody case.147 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Mary Orthodoxou

Bring Public Transit Service to TobytownWithin affluent Potomac, Maryland, descendants of former freedmen in the Tobytown community have struggled for 50 years to maintain jobs due to the lack of public transportation. As a result, many residents of Tobytown are unemployed or underemployed. Transit access should be a top priority for low- to moderate-income communities.215 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Segal

Tell WBAL: Stop Allowing Your Reporters to Deny Climate ChangeI’ve lived in Baltimore for twenty years, and I’ve never experienced storms of the intensity we’ve had in the last few years. From last June's intense derecho to the damage wrought by Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy, each event is another reminder of the way that fossil fuel pollution is changing our climate and making our weather system more dangerous. Television viewers like me rely on our broadcast meteorologists to inform us about the ways that climate is influencing our weather system. But unfortunately, I can’t count on the information I get from Channel 11 (WBAL). WBAL meteorologist Tony Pann denies that the climate is even changing, and has written a series of blog posts that contain false accusations, misstatements, and outright misinformation. Pann has written that global warming “stopped” in 1998, and that “dramatic cooling” has taken place ever since. Pann is a conspiracy theorist who has repeatedly alleged that climate scientists have “manipulated data,” and even once theorized that climate might be changing because Earth is raising its vibration from a 3rd dimensional reality to the 5th. Seriously. After learning about Tony Pann’s history of misinformation, I decided I needed to act. Along with University of Maryland climate scientist Eugenia Kalnay, I sat down to discuss WBAL’s climate coverage with the station’s news director, Michelle Butt. Ms. Butt said she takes climate change seriously, but she refused to take action to correct the misinformation being spread by one of her meteorologists. As a journalistic institution, WBAL has a responsibility to immediately stop the virulent climate change denial spouted by one its reporters. Join me in urging WBAL news director Michelle Butt to correct claims made by Tony Pann, and to take action to ensure that her staff report scientific facts about climate change, not misinformation.158 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Noel Levy

Get Big Pharma's Hooks off MedicareSenior citizens and all taxpayers are paying too much for prescription medicines through Medicare. Big Pharmaceutical companies have made record profits off a system they put in place for themselves. It is time for all Americans to pay affordable prices to stay healthy and retire with dignity.99 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Rahul

The drive to make North Carolina HB 786 better!I am urging you to support amending HB 786 by adding the following principles: 1. Racial profiling should be explicitly prohibited in the bill. In fact, measures to address the practice of racial profiling by police officers should be included in the bill. 2. Data collected through this process should be used only to determine permit eligibility and should be kept confidential. 3. Law enforcement officers should not be allowed to confiscate the vehicles of drivers who are found driving without a permit. 4. Those seeking eligibility to obtain a driving permit should not have to pay insurance premiums up front. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I believe we can work together to make this bill the best bill it can be and in doing so, help keep families together.104 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Armando Bellmas

Tell Congress to support the Robin Hood tax! It’s time for Congress to enact a Robin Hood tax (also known as a financial transaction tax) to help ordinary people and the planet. The Inclusive Prosperity Act of 2013, H.R. 1579, introduced by Representative Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), would put a miniscule tax on Wall Street transactions to generate hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue each year to support education, employment, health care, HIV/AIDS research and treatment and the fight against climate change, here at home and around the world. Please contact your representative and ask her/him to cosponsor this important legislation to establish a financial transaction tax on Wall Street.149 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Peter Stocker

Don't Cut Meals on WheelsThousands of homebound seniors will not get a hot meal tonight because Congress has cut funding for Meals on Wheels as part of the sequester. For millions of seniors, Social Security isn't enough to lift them out of poverty and hunger. In the past decade, there was a 78 percent increase in senior hunger.24,247 of 25,000 SignaturesCreated by Roger Hickey

Congress, drop the nationwide abortion ban billVOTE COMING UP: URGENT ACTION NEEDED! A nationwide ban on abortion after 20 weeks is under debate in Congress, even though an appeals court has only recently called one such ban "blatantly unconstitutional." These pointless theatrics waste time and do nothing to protect women's health. Research shows that barriers to access only lead to unsafe abortion. If Congress is truly concerned about women's health and safety, they should work on improving access to safe abortion care. Congress will begin debate soon and could vote as early as this week, so sign the petition now!!15,826 of 20,000 SignaturesCreated by Emily Bridges
