We ask Governor Kitzhaber to veto SB 154, because it would criminalize the initiative process by imposing felony liability on organizers of signature drives, if anyone working on the drive violates any election law or rule, however minor.

I would like to see this pass in Hawaii, as it has passed in Connecticut.

GMO food has not been proven safe. When spliced with pesticides to help it with stand weed killer how can it be safe. The growing population are having more and more health issues. Every consumer should have the right to know what ingredients are in their food. We have a right to know which foods come with GMO's. What does a company who uses GMO's have to hide? If companies want to use GMO's let your consumers know!

The Republicans are doing it again – throwing up obstructions, roadblocks, and unacceptable delays. They are using the silent filibuster to quietly stymie progressive efforts to protect workers, regulate Wall Street excesses, and rein in big polluters. We’re talking about the Secretary of Labor, the Administrator of the EPA, the Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and all five members of the National Labor Relations Board. See a pattern? These are people whose job it will be to ensure that the big and the powerful are held accountable. It’s outrageous. And I’m blowing the whistle on this unacceptable tactic. GMO's are affecting the health and well being of every human and animal that ingests them. We the people have a right to know what we are consuming in ALL of our foods. Let's put an end to big pay offs from big corporations, and start caring about the welfare of our families, our fellow man, and the environment!

Plain and simple, very much like the GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) labeling laws passed in Connecticut, the consumers in California have the right to know what goes into their food via explicit and state government mandated food ingredient labeling. GMO food consumption must be a choice made by the consumer in California, not a choice to be pushed down by any food or ingredient company (e.g. Monsanto).

Connecticut has started the ball rolling with their own GMO labeling legislation. Consumers have the right to know what is in their food, and the food processing industry has taken over our legislature with their lobbyists which have no interest in public safety or welfare. Now is the time to act to bring consumers out of the dark concerning their food supply.

Google's motto is "Don't Be Evil," but on July 11, Google is hosting a $250-$2500 per plate fundraiser for one of the worst climate change deniers in the world: Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK). Google was also the biggest donor to the Competitive Enterprise Institute's recent annual dinner, giving $50,000 to this anti-science group. Sen. Inhofe has claimed: "CO2 does not cause catastrophic disasters ... actually, it would be beneficial to our environment and the economy." Google chairman Eric Schmidt has said: "You can lie about the effects of climate change, but eventually you'll be seen as a liar." Google has been a corporate leader in fighting climate change pollution, and its support for liars like Inhofe is a glaring mistake.

The Food and Drug Administration does not require safety testing of new genetically modified foods (“GMOs”), instead relying on corporations' profits from the sale of such foods to ensure their safety for us. Contrary to industry claims, GMO foods have not been proven safe, and a growing body of independent, peer-reviewed studies have linked the consumption of GMO foods to allergies, infertility, immune problems, gastrointestinal disruption, cancer, and a host of other diseases. GMO crops can easily contaminate non-GMO crops, threatening organic agriculture, and their use is linked to increases in toxic pesticide use and the emergence of “superweeds.” Further, the absence of labeling of GMO foods and seeds prohibits those with specific ethical or religious practices from making informed food choices. More than 60 other countries around the world inform their citizens if their food is genetically engineered, and national polls consistently show that more than 90% of Americans want to share this same basic human right. GMO labeling legislation has been introduced in over 25 states, and on June 3, 2013, Connecticut passed a GMO labeling law - the first in the nation. But, it requires at least four other states to adopt similar legislation before it goes into effect. One state must border Connecticut. Texas now has the opportunity to help protect the transparency, integrity, and democracy of our food supply for all Americans.
