create a 35 hour work week35 hour work-week Tools were/are invented and used to save time and energy. They allow us to do more things, including having more “free” time to engage in other perhaps more enjoyable aspects of life. Industrialization did that to a great extent for civilization. So is our continuing advances in automation. The idea behind these advances is, or should be, to reduce the number of hours an average worker must put in on the job to accomplish the same feat. The average workweek in America did decline over the decades to reach 40 hours a week around World war II. Since then, automation and efficiency have increased dramatically, but we are still stuck with a 40-hour workweek. This has been one of the reasons that we currently have such high unemployment-people still working 40 hours + a week while others are completely unemployed. We are long overdue for a legal reduction to a 35-hour workweek. If we did this, employers, especially corporations employing a large number of people, will be encouraged to hire more people to fill the gap rather then pay current employees time and a half overtime for that extra 5 hours needed to do the job. This would save parents some money reducing the amount of after school day care needed. The ultimate goal (in America) would be the 30-hour week. This would match America’s current school day. Some parents could then eliminate after school daycare altogether and allow some other families to become 2 earner families.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Gerald Manata

Save Social Security the Right WayThe current administration is taking every action except the right ones to try to get more money into the Social Security coffers. The are reducing current and future benefits, beginning to privatize medicare and looking at retirement savings of individuals. What needs to be done is to increase the income cap to $150,000 and perform means testing that includes all types of taxable income. If you have $100,000 or more of taxable income, you don't need Social Security. Under the current proposals, only the people who need the support the most are being negatively affected.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by John nolan

No more partiesI, as well as many other people I am sure, have an idea that would solve many of our countries problems. We HAVE TO get rid of the party system. As long as representatives are calling themselves for the most part Democrat or Republican, the majority of our country is going to vote in Democrats or Republicans regardless of whether or not they agree with their policies. As of now, people treat politics like a football game. They don't care what the players are like on either team, they just want their team to win. If we get rid of the party system all together, and candidates only represent themselves by name, all the people in this country who are now voting Democrat or Republican (two parties of which are owned by big business and private banks) just because they would rather see their team win more so than having candidates in office that would actually help the country and the world, would no longer be able to do this. People would be FORCED to listen to each candidates ideas and policies, and instead of judge them by what party they represent, they would then be judging those candidates strictly by their character. This would have immediate, positive effects in our government being that most of the people voted into office would have been voted in because of their beliefs and who they are as a person. The two party system is the key player in the demise of our country and enables corporations and banking institutions to control the masses while giving the people what they think is "choice." It is anything but choice. As of now most people think they can vote blue or red. If you get rid of the party system, people's options open up to many, many more than just the two. I am positive this would work, but first, I would say another petition must be signed into office. The PEOPLE must have voting rights on anything and everything that will effect them even on a minor scale. No more can we allow politicians to vote for us. They are not passing legislation that is in the best interest of humanity, only in the best interest of themselves and their bank accounts. We have to give the rights back to the people first in order for them to vote whether or not their should be a party system, because the representatives of both major parties will shoot the idea of having no parties down immediately. It must be up to the people. After all, it is our lives. We should have more of a say.6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Andrew Simmons

A new approach to ending gun violenceNowadays I hear voices calling for such things as "fight the NRA, call for total elimination of gun"s, etc. There are other voices saying they have cultural ties to guns: hunting , hobbies, etc. We need new, more reasoned, voices calling for a national movement to convince everyone to work to end gun violence, especially Congress, State legislators, etc to adopt reasonable measures such as registration, bans on assault weapons, etc. There is one such movement begun in Newtown, Connecticut, called "The Sandy Hook Promise"*** which should become a nationwide movement. It is intended to compel our representatives to move away from bitter arguments and seek to adopt measures to prevent further killings of our helpless children (and adults). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ***SANDY HOOK PROMISE Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a non-profit corporation* created by members of the community of Newtown, Connecticut in response to the shooting on December 14, 2012, at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, which killed 20 children, four teachers and two administrators. A PROMISE IS BORN There was a gathering of people in Newtown. It was in someone’s kitchen, and it was filled with friends and neighbors who knew they needed to be together. Gradually, as they spoke, they also realized something else. They understood that they had a responsibility. To honor the kids and teachers they’d lost, as well as the survivors. They promised to do whatever they could to not let this tragedy stand as just another in our country’s history. {WITH EVERY HUG, A PROMISE ---------) THE PROMISE OF COMMON SENSE Moving forward, the SHP mission is to work to identify and implement holistic, common sense solutions that will make our community and our country safer from similar acts of violence through education, outreach and grass-roots discussion. SHP believes the time has come to enter into these discussions with equal parts of Love, Compassion, and Common Sense. OUR APPROACH – Listen, Learn, Act Listen and Learn: SHP will promote open dialogue around the areas of gun responsibility, mental health and school safety. We will have ongoing discussions with experts, groups, communities and elected officials across the United States to better understand the nature of the challenges we confront and the most promising solutions – legislative and non-legislative. Sandy Hook families, survivors, parents of child survivors, first responders, teachers, staff, as they choose, will be part of our discussion and undertaking. Act: We will speak with one voice in support of those actions that will make our communities and country safer from similar acts of violence. We do not have an ‘all or nothing’ approach and will focus our energy on those areas that we believe have the greatest impact. We do not believe that every solution requires a law. We are committed to local and national legislative and non-legislative change. (THE PROMISE, THIS TIME, OF REAL CHANGE --------) This is the time. The time to stand up and say that our society should not live under the threat of this kind of violence. ------ (more) ------------------------------------------------------------------- *Sandy Hook Promise is composed of two nonprofit corporations. The first is Sandy Hook Promise Foundation, a section 501(c)(3) organization. Contributions to the foundation are tax deductible. The second nonprofit is the Sandy Hook Promise Action Fund, a section 501(c)(4) advocacy organization. Contributions to the Action Fund are not tax deductible. =========================== Available on Facebook:18 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Julian Chazin

Increase public school funding by $250.00 per pupilVoucher schools are now receiving an extra $1,400 per pupil while our precious public schools are receiving cuts in funding. Voucher schools can pick and choose who they would like to educate and even kick students out after they have accepted funding, yet still keep the proceeds. Meanwhile, our public schools accept all students and their funding is on the chopping block. In order for America to remain competitive, we need a strong public education system! The future of our students and America hangs in the balance! Demand that public schools receive an extra $250.00 per pupil and voucher schools, which violate the separation of church and state receive no increases. America's future depends on it!17 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Andrea Iravani

Limit Contract Employment Length to 3 MonthsPermanent positions are being staffed by an endless cycle of contract workers. This is not only depressing the wages of skilled workers, but it's making it increasingly difficult to find steady employment with benefits, even for qualified and experienced engineers.4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Joshua Stacy
