I am on a fixed income I am paying into two health insurances, Medicare and UnitedHealthCare, and I am unable to get a much needed hearing aid. Why is a hearing aid not consider to be a health need? It is a necessity to be able to hear, it is very dangerous to be unable to hear. I know first hand, I been to three different companies for an hearing aid and the price is extremely high especially for those on fixed incomes?

Like many school districts in Pennsylvania, the Allentown School District has faced budget deficits for the last three years. The State of Pennsylvania cut revenue to the District by almost ten million dollars in 2011 with a loss of over 200 positions. They are seeking to cut an additional 144 positions from the District, with the elimination or curtailment of full day kindergarten, art, physical education and library at the elementary level and related arts at the middle school level. High School core subject areas will also lose teachers, along with English as a Second Language and Special Education. All of these cuts will cause class sizes to soar and will not allow students the same opportunities as surrounding districts. All students across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania deserve better. Sign this petition to ask the Allentown School Board not to cut teachers and programs that are beneficial to the students of Allentown.

The Koch brothers are the right-wing duo infamous for funding the Tea Party. Now they want to buy their own media empire to spread their extreme views -- including buying the Chicago Tribune, and its parent, the Tribune Company. The Kochs have spent their fortune funding anti-worker candidates like Scott Walker and right-wing lobbying groups like ALEC. They even warned tens of thousands of their employees that there would be "consequences" if they didn't vote for Republicans. Not exactly the kind of guys I want running the most respected newspaper in Illinois. Isn't one Rupert Murdoch enough? The Chicago Tribune is a valuable source of honest journalism. We can't let it turn into a right-wing mouthpiece. Please sign our petition against a Koch brothers buyout of the Tribune.

Casino gambling is NOT a harmless way to raise state revenue. Here's the experience of one gambler now in recovery. "I lost just about everything because of my addiction to gambling. I nearly lost my life. I was in my late 40s and had never gambled before. I had a good job, a happy marriage, and close relationships with my grandchildren. When a Native American casino opened in Niagara Falls, NY, near my home, I went with a friend, just for fun—an evening of entertainment. But I quickly became addicted. Casino gambling began to consume my life. I was one of the lucky few. I finally managed to emerge on the other side after years of compulsive gambling, depression, bankruptcy, estrangement from family, my own suicide attempt, and the actual suicide of a friend who owed $2000 to the casino and was being hounded by threats of legal action and jail. It has now been 15 months since I’ve placed a bet. I'm putting my life back in order, trying to heal the tremendous damage I did to my family and myself. This story wouldn’t matter to you and other NY State residents if it were rare, the exception to the rule. But actually "problem" or addicted gamblers like me provide a major percentage of the profits of gambling casinos—statistics range from 30-70%. Whatever lip service casino owners pay to promoting "responsible gaming," they make huge profits from people who gamble more than they can afford, whose lives are devastated by gambling addiction. Not only is this an ethically questionable way to raise state revenue, but there is a high economic cost to problem gambling and addiction—crime (embezzlement, fraud, etc.), business failures, bankruptcy, loss of economic productivity, addiction treatment, divorce, etc. I don't buy the argument that we won't create new gamblers by creating new casinos—that we'll just "capture" the gamblers who would otherwise cross state lines to gamble anyway. My own experience is that the proximity of a casino makes it far easier to start gambling and to develop and maintain a compulsive gambling habit. Research bears out this common sense observation. We need to recognize that much of the profit from gambling casinos depends on addiction, debt and impoverishment. Fatality accidents are on the rise due to the lack of use of safety features which are in every vehicle. Statistics on the National Institute of Highway Safety show that in 2008, states which require the use of backseat restraints showed that 85% of adults in the backseat used their safety belts, compared to the 66% of adults who used them in states which don't require them. 55% of passengers killed in 2008 were unrestrained.

i attend suwannee high school, and our school resource office is being fire by the NAACP for doing his job and arresting people because the parents of the kids claim he is racist. i know crutchfield and he is not racist.

This petition is about saving the wildlife and the environment. As you all know phonebook are really thick and they take up a large amount of paper. Which comes too cutting down more trees and leaving wildlife roaming around the cities trying to survive. Further more that leads up to wild animal attacks and injuries.
