ELBA, The El Barrio Theatre Development ProjectI am an unemployed Theatre Artist, who lives in a poor Community with 4 underutilized Theatres, in New York City, the biggest Theatre Town in the world. If these 4 Theatres were operating, they would pump more than $13 million into the Local economy, employ local artists, and change the basic economics of El Barrio.247 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Eugene Rodriguez

save Austin JamesMy stepson, Austin, is 14 & was diagnosed with Asperger's a few years back. Now, Austin has become a victim of the State. He is a confused young gentleman that is losing hope. Austin was removed from our home in May 2012. After successfully completing every demand thrown at us, we are still being denied our son..all thanks to one county. The county that has jurisdiction (Columbiana) wishes to reunify the family, however they are being told that if they reunify, the county of residence will come in and remove my 2 daughters. Please help my family bring Austin home and stop my county of residence (Tuscarawas) from bullying my family and threatening to take my children! We have done nothing wrong. Since Tuscarawas County wont allow Austin to come home, he was placed in a foster home where he now faces 3 charges of domestic violence. All charges that never would have existed if Austin would have remained home where he belongs. This autistic child has been put through Hell and back, for no reason at all. Please stand with me in stopping the nonsense from our county agencies. They dont protect children, they destroy them.277 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Kristen Shutler

Petition against 14th Avenue name change to Dr. Ephirim Williams AvenueI have been a resident of 14th Avenue in Sacramento for over 30 years and would consider this steet name change a great financial burden and inconvenience as I would have to inform banks, creditors, insurance companies, friends and family. The cause to change 14th Avenue is not great enough as we all contribute to make our community better.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Pearl Nunez

Tell Congress and the Senate to Vote "Yes" on the Student Loan Fairness Act of 2013!My name is Ron Rodriguez, and I'm a first-generation college student enrolled in the TRIO program, which helps low-income and first-generation students like myself enter college with the guidance and resources necessary to succeed and become contributing members of society. Thanks to the guidance of my TRIO counselors, I am an honor student with a 4.0 GPA, and an active member of my college community. However, due to the budget sequester-- the TRIO program-- among other vital education services, loans, and programs, is suffering from massive budget cuts, crippling an already ailing program. This week of March 18th, 2013, Congresswoman Karen Bass (CA) will present a bill written in cooperation with the United States Student Association (U.S.S.A.) called the Student Debt Fairness Act of 2013. This bill serves to protect past, present, and future students, including but not limited to: veterans, first-generation students, Upward Bound students, students with disabilities, low-income students, immigrant students, and students receiving Federal loans such as the subsidized Stafford Loan and Pell Grants, from drastic cuts to vital education programs and services. Federal Work Study will see $49 million in cuts, $406 will be cut from Head Start, and $725 million will be cut from Title 1 Grants for disadvantaged public schools, affecting approximately 1.2 million low-income K-12 students. Some college campuses are putting further caps on enrollment into the TRIO program, which serves veterans, low-income, first-generation, minority, and immigrant students. TRIO is facing budget cuts and enforced enrollment reductions due to budget limitations. The TRIO program has suffered $66 million in systematic budget cuts since 2005, and those cuts will increase by another $42 million due to the 'sequestration'. The interest rate of the subsidized Stafford Loan is currently set at 3.4%, but that rate is set to expire in July of this year. Afterward, it will double to 6.8%, with no grace period for college graduates to seek out employment. The Marines have announced they have stopped their Military Education Tuition Assistance Program immediately as a result of the sequester. These are just some of the issues that we should ALL be concerned with as they relate to our nation's education system and economic stability. Building a better higher education system for ALL of our students results in a brighter future for all of us, as they go on to lead productive lives that strengthen our nation's economy, our infrastructure, and our relationships abroad in this growing global economy. Tell them that our college students MUST have the opportunity to pay off their student loans with a fair interest rate, and not be saddled with excessive debt. Tell them that our veterans and students with disabilities WANT their chance to become stronger citizens! First-generation and lower-income students WANT to be citizens that are productive and contribute their talents and skills to our society, and contribute to a stronger economy! Don't cut their programs! Don't cut education funding! That's the foundation of a stronger economy, not budget cuts to education! Tell your Senators and Congress to vote "Yes" on the Student Loan Fairness Act of 2013!8 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Ronald Rodriguez Jr.

Support HR 525 or S 359 - Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2013Supporting these measures will put farmland back into production, give farm and production workers much needed work, and make products made from industrial hemp more available and affordable to all. Many products from paper, fabric, and particle board to plastics, paint, and car parts , as well as many foods and cosmetics can be made here in the USA from industrial hemp. Currently we rely on importing either the raw materials like paper or fabric or finished products from many countries. We can put people to work while saving import duties and taxes.25 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Robert Cannell

Hands Off Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid Benefits!Cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits would impact the most vulnerable among us. Let's stand up for seniors, veterans, the disabled, and future generations of Americans, and protect these hard-earned benefits -- instead of continued tax breaks for billionaires and Wall Street. It’s not enough to voice opposition to such cuts. We want Representative Huffman to sign the Grayson-Takano letter, making a firm commitment to vote against any cuts. The letter reads, in part, "We write to let you know that we will vote against any and every cut to Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security benefits." We ask Rep. Huffman to join the 28 members of Congress who have signed the letter: Brown, Cartwright, Castor, Clay, Conyers, D. Davis, DeFazio, Ellison, Faleomavaega, Grayson, G. Green, Grijalva, Gutierrez, A. Hastings, Honda, Kaptur, Lee, Lynch, C. Maloney, Markey, McGovern, Nadler, Napolitano, Nolan, Serrano, Takano, Velazquez, and Waters.1,461 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Pat Johnstone

Indiana State Legislature: Resolution for National Congressional Delegation to Reinstate Glass-St...Our economy has reached a very dangerous place, and we need to take action at all levels—from grassroots to Federal Government. The Glass-Steagall Act is the indispensable first step to both United States and global economic recovery! Glass-Steagall will immediately halt the onset of hyperinflation, remove government commitment to toxic debts, bar government bailouts, end Too Big To Fail, and again force the complete separation of commercial banks from investment banks which, 1933 to 1999, protected "we the people" from risky and predatory banking practices. The Glass-Steagall Act must be reinstated immediately so that an orderly reorganization can be started before the collapse of our financial system, and to allow for a transition to regulated banking without dangerous hyperinflation. Legislation to reinstate the Glass-Steagall Act has been introduced in the 113th Congress as House bill HR-129, and needs a concurrent bill in the Senate. That's why I created this petition to The Indiana State House and The Indiana State Senate.57 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Natalia Lytwakiwsky

Tell the L.A. Times and Chicago Tribune owners: "No Sale to the Koch Brothers!"The Koch brothers are the worst of the worst. Oil and gas billionaires, they're known for funding the Tea Party, buying elections, funding anti-science organizations, union busting, dodging taxes, and twisting democracy any way they can to promote their personal agenda. Now, in a stunning move, according to multiple reports, they want to buy the company that owns the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, and several other big newspapers to further their radical right-wing agenda and move fringe Tea Party ideas into the mainstream. They cannot be allowed to purchase the most respected newspapers in the biggest media markets in the country in order to peddle their discredited ideas and right-wing propaganda. People count on papers like Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune for real facts, real issues, and unbiased information. And newspaper endorsements in local and statewide elections carry substantial clout. The Koch brothers cannot be allowed to control these vital sources of information.7,124 of 8,000 SignaturesCreated by Gabe Smalley
