Tell the Senate: Pass Universal Background Checks for All Gun PurchasesDid you know that members of the military are required to pass a background check before they're allowed to join the service? The U.S. Senate is getting ready to vote on universal background checks and despite the fact that 92% of Americans support the measure, its passage remains in doubt. I had to pass a background check to carry a weapon in Iraq, and we should require the same of people who want to carry one at home. We only have a few days to demonstrate the overwhelming support this issue enjoys. Thousands of veterans with VoteVets.org have already signed a petition on this issue. Will you add your name to theirs today? We'll have a veteran deliver your message to the U.S. Senate before the vote.113,412 of 200,000 SignaturesCreated by Glenn Kunkel, Iraq War Veteran & Purple Heart Recipient

Unsafe At These Speeds!!In a recent report published by the Southern Poverty Law Center and Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice over 300 poultry workers and past workers interviewed had suffered some type of significant work-related injury or illness because of punishing processing line speeds of up to 150 birds per minute. Governor Tomblin: Save Kenova Elementary SchoolMy daughter attends Kenova Elementary School, which had its building closed by the state of West Virginia in May 2011 due to a sink hole. The lease for the modular units currently housing the school expires in June 2014 and there is currently not a plan for a permanent school. Our children's education should be our top priority, and the state should take responsibility for their actions and build a new school for Kenova Elementary.1,152 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Jennifer Butler

Need Criminal record ClearedI believe that we should look at allowing certain things to come off of our criminal records after a given amount of time. This practice happens with things such as; traffic tickets and bankruptcies, after the allotted time the violations fall off. I believe this should be a common practice with certain misdemeanors and convictions on our criminal records; time frame to be set accordingly.14 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Joe Johnson

Saying No to Local PORKThe intersection East of Charleston Illinois where IL Rt-16 and East Harrison Avenue cross is currently under a proposal to spend in excess of 3 million (before properties are purchased) to renovate the intersection. They say it is for "safety" reasons; however, it is really to benefit a local attorney who is scheming to enhance his land development plans. The city of Charleston even hired his survey company to plot out the intersection options. Once these were presented to the community in an open presentation, while attending the viewing, I heard nothing from the community people who were for spending so much money and doing anything to such extremes. No forum was presented to voice objections in an open forum. Objections were to be submitted to the state highway department where they could secretly be made to disappear. Things are silent while the abuse continues behind the scenes. I am sure there are experts on higher levels that have coached the community on just how to stage the acceptance of such PORK projects. We are sick of this kind of waste and it needs to stop. There is no such thing as FREE money. We as a community want to say NO to it.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Anthony E Cox
