  • Protect the Kansas "Sunshine Law"
The Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA) is designed to ensure that voters will not be shut out of the decision-making processes. We have a right to know not only HOW our legislators voted, but why: did they support/oppose something on principle, or on account of acceptable riders, or because they were bribed? If legislators and lobbyists can gather in secret meetings even to DISCUSS possible legislation, then we are shut out of the process.

  • Overturn Senate Bill 1357, Senate Bill 1317 Chronic Absence vs. Chronic Truancy
What’s made the bill controversial is a provision for criminal penalties–a fine of up to $2,000 or a jail term of up to a year–for parents .. "-Given that students with special health needs often miss chunks of school, this is a poor idea. There is a fundamental misunderstanding of how health issues impact children with asthma, diabetes, bipolar, leukemia, sleep disturbances, autism with severe anxiety, and school phobia. Parents overall do not make these issues up. They are real and require medical management. There are not even sufficient medical public health nurses to create IEP medical plans. Truancy charges against special needs children are discriminatory and even if a parent has all the medical excuses, parents are still having CPS called on them. This is not acceptable." "-I agree. I believe the wrong people are being targeted and charged with truancy. I have 3 kids, 2 have asthma and are always sick and missing school. I was brought into a meeting last year and put on a contract, forcing my child to go to school even when sick because I had too many excused absences, for which I have provided a doctors note. This resulted in my son developing pneumonia and was hospitalized for a week. The 2nd day his asthma and pneumonia was so bad I had 5 doctors working on my son debating whether or not to put him in ICU. Talk about scary….Education is very important to me, I want the best for my kids, but if they’re sick, they’re sick. Yet I’m told excused absences are excessive. My doctor disagrees, they’re telling me my child is too sick to be in school and is concerned about illnesses like the flu and strep throat being spread. Who will protect me and my kids? Any illness results in asthma being triggered and I know I am not the only parent who is being told they have to send their kids to school no matter what! It’s ridiculous. In addition I was told me being hospitalized was not a valid excuse for my kids to miss 1 day. The closest family member I had to care for my kids was not local and did not have the transportation to get them to school. My kids were truant? I don’t think so!"

  • 50,000 Responsible NJ Gun Owners Opposed to What is Being 'Framed' As A Gun Violence Prevention P...
The new legislation proposed by the New Jersey Assembly Democrats in regards to Gun Violence Prevention is truly an assault on gun owners rights. What is framed as a gun violence prevention package is poorly crafted, loaded with unintended consequences, and in many places in conflict with existing law. The proposed bills will only make law abiding gun owners into criminals overnight. None of these bills have anything to do with preventing crime. The bills in this package are unworkable and put people at risk of incarceration for owning items that have been owned for decades by responsible people. Every person who has signed this petition does not support the package of bills. We need 50,000 responsible gun owners who oppose this rash of bills aimed at our rights and freedoms as Americans, and NJ residents. The Assemblyman said he did not have a problem with gun owners who follow the law. His actions and support of this package have shown us otherwise.

  • Backyard Chickens for Corona, California
The backyard chicken movement is spreading across the country. Well-informed citizens are demanding high-quality, locally grown food - not just fruits and vegetables, but eggs, milk, and meat as well. Permitting residents in urban and suburban areas to keep a small flock of hens allows citizens the opportunity to harvest fresh eggs to support a healthy, organic lifestyle. It also helps educate citizens on the origins of our food and provides the companionship of a different kind of pet. Local cities such as Los Angeles, Pasadena, Monterey Park, Glendora, Chino, Rancho Cucamonga, and San Diego allow urban backyard chickens, as well as many other cities nationwide.

  • NBA: Don't attack workers
NBA players know that unions are important for protecting workers on the job. The National Basketball Players' Association has a long history of keeping players safe, and the National Basketball Referees' Association ensures fair compensation for the unsung heroes of the game. All workers deserve the same protections. James Dolan doesn't believe that. His company (Cablevision-Optimum) has done everything from illegally locking out and firing workers, to refusing to negotiate a fair contract with his workers. The NBA shouldn't reward his union busting behavior.

  • Governor Insley: Tell the U.S. Energy Department to Clean up Hanford Nuclear Reservation Right Away
The aging T-111 radioactive waste tank at Hanford Nuclear Reservation (said to be the nation’s most contaminated nuclear site) in south-central Washington, is now leaking. This highly radioactive liquid waste may be making its way toward the nearby Columbia River, which supplies drinking water and agricultural irrigation. The integrity of our drinking water and food supply should be of primary concern to the citizens of our State and must be protected.

  • Missouri Must Participate in Medicaid Expansion
The Federal Government will cover 100% of the cost for the first 3 years, Missouri’s medical systems will suffer the loss of $4 Billion resulting in the loss of ability to provide many of the services it provides to the citizens of the state. Missouri’s taxpayers’ dollars will go to other states to provide enhanced medical coverage for people elsewhere.

  • Permanent Fracking Ban
Fracking burdens local infrastructure. Roads are stressed with heavy hauling of liquids to frack sites. Air is filled with diesel exhaust. Poisonous Fracking liquids are stored in vulnerable surface pools. And of course the highly pressurized fracking liquids or slippery water, threaten 20% of the earth's fresh water. We must reject this dangerous excuse for cheap energy.
